Varanasi was my first solo city in India so it's defined a bit of GRRRL TRAVELER's travel vibe. It's my fave city in India. This is my Varanasi Travel Guide of top attractions in Varanasi. The city of Varanasi is a wild ride but with the holy Ganges River, it's a top Hindu pilgrimage spot for Hindus who come to take blessings and to send off their dearly departed for their final cycle of life. Written Version of Varanasi Travel Guide is posted on my blog, where I always post DIY travel info from my trip to help travelers plan their own trip. It will be posted in a week or two: grrrltraveler.com/countries/asia/india-asia/varanasi-travel-guide/ For those interested in my camera gear, my Kit is here: kit.com/grrrltravelere See what I and your other fave UA-camrs are gearing up with!
Love Varanasi. Fortunate to have been here in March. Sunrise & Sunset 🌅 on the Ganges was life changing. I will return next year without doubt, I miss this place so much, the noise, smells are surreal & you just have to go there to understand The spirit of Varanasi.
+Roberto Audiffred Aww ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ India. My trips there never feel long enough! Will have to check out Gabriel's channel sometime. 🤗
Perfect timing, Christine! I head to Varanasi tomorrow. Now that I have seen your video I am really excited about all that I will experience. Thank you so much or all you do! You are inspiring solo women travelers around the world!
How amazing! Thank you for sharing! India can come across as intimidating, especially for a solo female traveler. I have plans to go there in the next few years and your videos have been wonderful to watch. I've seen other travelers who seem to just rush through the areas. I appreciate that you stop and show places and people and even talk to the locals. Thanks for sharing the culture!
Just came back. My first visit to Varanasi. Loved it! This video gives a good impression of the experience, which is almost undoable to truly share. Thank you for making this video.
Hi bro I’m from Andhra Pradesh I got central govt job and my first posting is Varanasi Can I adjust there basing upon food , culture ... Say few words about Varanasi
I will wait for the travel tips video. Can you recommend a pair of convertible shorts? I am going to Thailand and wearing a sarong to go into a Buddhist temple is not an option...LOL.
That was another good one. Really want to get to Varanasi but I'll have to make it next time. (I'm in Madurai right now.) I agree with what one of your other fans said: you and Gabriel Traveler are the very best India travel vloggers. Loved all that early morning ghats footage!
Yeah, the Meenakshi Temple. It was truly humbling. I wasn't there long enough, unfortunately, just a week in and around Madurai and two more throughout the rest of Tamil Nadu. I'll be back though. I've only just barely glossed the surface of this country and need to see more. Until then, here's hoping you post more India videos!
Hi Christine, Thanks for all the hard work. Your videos have been entertaining, informative, and inspiring. In just a few weeks I will be starting my first trip to India (going to Turkey and Nepal first). Your work has been a big help during the planning and preparation and is much appreciated. Thanks again, Keith Passmore
Wow~ super excited for you Keith! You'll have an amazing time in all those countries, I'm envious. A lot to take in one trip... will it be a few months? =D
I'm planning on traveling for almost a year: 3 weeks in Turkey, 3 months in Nepal, 4-5 months in India, then (assuming either my funds or will to travel have not dried up) Thailand, Cambodia, ...? I'm going to start traveling east and keep going east until I hit the U.S. again. This is my first trip to the East and may not get another chance, so I'm going to make it count. I've been seriously preparing for this trip for about a year (been wanting to go much, much longer), and your videos have been most helpful. Keith
Christine 😘🤟You’re gave me bravery to travel on my owe to Kolkata, India. And I loved it. Now, I’m thinking Varanasi 😍 thank you so much for your well videos and travel blog ❤️🇨🇦 love ya grrrl.
+Diana Of Markham Yaaaaaay!!! Woot girl. Vns is gonna be a little more gritty intense and nutty. First time I hated it and by day 3 I was in love. Read my travel guide for tips on common scams. ❤️🙏
Ah, Varanasi. The complex and confounding mix of past and present, of ancient traditions mixed with modern amenities. So easy to lose yourself in it. I imagine it must have been a bit of a culture shock when you visited for the first time.
+Dream Walker yeah. My first impression years ago- , I hated it and looked for the next flight out and a Hilton away from the dirtiness of the ghats. I was alone in the weirdest city in India.😱😱😱 Then i met a traveler who told me you have to give the city time "Varanasi has a sense of humor and i fell in love with it. " Second day I desperately looked for that humor. True- Everything once scary seemed humorous, unique, hardcore and raw in an honest way. It gave way to a dizzying feeling of carnival fun drenched with reverent spiritual beauty. A stronger pulse of life. Now it's like a sweet and warm drug that calls to me 🕉 I'm grateful to the traveler who advised me and I always give cities a chance before forming impressions. 🌷
You're so amazing. I'll never have the courage to travel anywhere by myself, watching your videos is both exciting and worrying lol I'm always hoping you're okay.
Will be passing through Rajasthan, Delhi, Varanasi and Darjeeling in October. Where along these areas do you suggest I should be for Diwali? Video thumbs upped!
I just posted a written post on my blog with more information on Diwali. It depends upon what you want to experience of Diwali. Any Indian's here have recommendations?
Delhi and Varanasi is where you'll get the full blast, so to speak, but both will be crowded with tourist season at its peak. If you're a city kid who can handle crowds, I'd say go with one of the two. In fact, I'd say go with Varanasi. Otherwise, go with Rajasthan or Darjeeling. I suppose much of it depends upon your travel schedule. If this is your first time travelling to India, make sure to check what dates Diwali falls on this year in advance. This might help. www.mtvindia.com/blogs/parent/just-in/7-best-places-in-india-to-celebrate-diwali-51371911.html
Nice, I did take a dip in the river, because I walked trough some really dirty stuff. Indeed Varanasi one of the most exciting towns in India. Enjoyed the video very much, thanks.
It's so hard finding India inspired music for free. When i found the music for this, I had to save it for this Varanasi vid! I've seen the pan often in the ghat area-- is it safe for women ? What makes it different from betel nut?
GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa Paan is sold all over India in small shops by Paanwalas, and there are various varieties of it, some of them known after the cities like Banarasi and Kalkatta. Paan is actually a Hindi word for leaf and this one is a eatable betel leaf. Betel nut is one of many ingredients folded into Paan, I guess it's harmful along with other ingredients like Tobacco and slaked lime so many people are addicted to it and have it for like 3-4 times a day. But the one Paan which I really love is the sweet Paan which can be eaten by everyone as well as kids too and has no such ingredients listed above. This one has rose jam, cherries , sweet coconut and many more things which I remember eating as a dessert in the childhood. Even though Banarasi n Kalkatta paans are maybe harmful( I don't know, I might be wrong but I have heard once you eat them you feel like you're drunk) I wanna try them at least once because of their popularity.
not particularly children, anyone can eat that, i just tried to say that there's something which is available for everyone at a panwala who is popular for selling things like tobacco, cigs and a lots of pans. I suppose it's called meetha paan or masala paan. Also there are chances of them adding betel nuts into it, so u can tell them that you wouldn't like those nuts in your meetha paan.
Dera Christine thank you for this beautiful video. I am planning a trip to Kathmandu Delhi and Varanasi for July. I was wondering if these amazing images belong to the month of July as the date suggest. I am a little afraid the summer monsoon can flood everything but these images are very beautiful. Thank you
@abhishek 1)Need to educate people visiting your city not to throw garbage or litter on streets and ghats. Cleanliness highly required. You can help in this. 2) Dogs, cows, buffalos etc need to be removed from streets and put up in nice enclosed area where they can roam and feed freely. Govt needs to do this. 3) Ban horns on 2 and 4 wheelers 4) Wash and clean streets. Concretize muddy areas.
You took a private boat tour also with Brown Bread Bakery? How can I find/contact your boat man? I would like to have a nice experience as you did. Thank you
Someone commented that UP is teaming with Japanese to clean up the city??? With over 2 billion visitors annually the city should have money, but all those daily crowds and pujas might make cleaning a challenge. They should open employment in the city and designate city/ghat/waste cleaners. =)
Those are probably the happiest cows in the world. No worries about being turned into beef. That man that is drinking water out of the Ganges needs to have his head examined. Bodies of pregnant women and lepers I think the man mentioned are dumped into the river yet he is drinking?

GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa yeah and with israel and america. the plans are great.. it just has to happen already..

Wayne, you're funny and you don't miss a thing! ~ ha ha
:)
The people there are used to it. It doesn't affect them at all.
+Dream Walker Westerners 😱😮 😳; Indians 😴🙄😐
@Wayne
The bodies are taken far away and then dumped. Still a very ignorant and regressive ritual. Needs to be banned immediately.
And obviously, drinking the water should be avoided 100%. The people are extremely ignorant, believing old stories 'drinking the water will wash away all your sins' etc.
I'm currently ald banaras highway ,returning back form Varanasi..
How waaaaas your trip? Long stay?

We all are working on it but its really a very difficult challenge to make Varanasi clean because many peoples use to come here from all over the world and its not a surprising point that varanasi is a bit dirty city because it is a very crowded area .
