  • A huge amount of people showed an interest in my 3 Years Sober video so I thought it would be a good idea to do a follow up 1 year later.
Did I succumb to temptation?, did I allow others to persuade me to partake in the demon drink once again?
Find out in another scintillating episode of an angry, middle-aged, grey man wandering atop a hill reminiscing on life.

Watching this while drinking a beer.... sobriety is overrated... the mastery of alcohol is one of the greatest joys.... Once you master it then drinking or not drinking doesn't matter... Grab a 6 pack throw it in the fridge and make it so you only drink once a week and it lasts 6 weeks. Right now alcohol is controlling you and you are avoiding it but that means alcohol has won...

It is tough! But it gets easier the farther away you get for that daily addiction. At the end of a year you start feeling the freedom from the "Hangxiety" that feeling of waking up sick, ashamed and worried about how many people watched you make a fool of yourself. Believe me, I did that for 30 years. Lost my family, lost my job, lost my self-respect. Then I quit 35 years ago. I can tell you the feeling of freedom from that addiction is worth every day of stress one goes through to get there! This man sounds so much like me its wild! I think there are so many of us in his group. We just think it's all our fault we can't handle the hooch. Fast it we are all just victims of the addiction purveyors!

@@chrisrodenmusic I have two sons. Both have had issues with booze just like their old man. I have been working with the older on for 5 years now and I think he has it under control. I say under control because it takes years to actually beat it. I advise my Son to think of the addiction as your most evil enemy. Learn to hate it. Get mad at it when it creeps into your urge to try again to be a "Normal" drinker. Personally I don't think there is actual a "Normal" level of drinking. I think any person who drinks might on any given day start to develop a problem drinking pattern. Personally, it cost me my first family, a job and the loss of all my self-respect and a constant sense of weakness. But not anymore, I have vanquished that bastard evil addiction. Keep up your quest to beat that devil. You have already come a long way so just keep going!

And at 44 years of age, F. Scott Fitzgerald's body, deteriorated from years of alcoholic over-indulgence, gave way and the drink did, ultimately, take him. I've had many a drink in the Commodore Bar, the bar located in the building where he lived. But now, I'm 13 months sober and about 30 minutes from my next AA meeting. Life is vastly better.

Inspiring stuff mate. Stumbled across your 3 Year video today, at a point where I've been feeling fairly awful about the direction my life is going, and it's really inspired me to try and turn things around. I've never really had a problem with alcohol but I have recently not enjoyed drinking much and the anxiety and depression that it sometimes brings out in me has become a more serious issue as of late, so the timing of this couldn't really have been better. To be honest I am not normally a fan of these type of 'self-help' youtube channels but you seem so genuinely down to earth, and just like a decent and normal human being that it's a pleasure to listen to your thoughts. I am going to give dry January a go, as you did, and see what impact it has. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work.

Thanks for being so genuine and vulnerable. That is a really rare thing in this world!!! Also, the hardest thing for me about being sober is the old "friends" either giving me crap or just not being supportive. Your 3 year sobriety vid came into my recommended channel on 3/1/20. I just had to watch it. The first minute of your chat was like you were describing me, though I am fortunately not anxious or down in the dumps so to speak.
You have inspired me to knock it on the head and today (12/1/20), see's out my first week of no alcohol. It's been great and so far, very easy to do. Sleeping however has been terrible.
So please accept my thanks for making that video and thanks YT for putting it on my list.

Well done!!! Congratulations on your FOUR YEARS of sobriety!!
Your much inspiration to many many folks who battle this demon, including myself at 19 years. I still have and probably always will struggle at certain points of the year (Xmas for example)
My father always told me an old saying which you’ve probably already read or heard.
ONE drink is too many, and ONE HUNDRED is not enough. Much truth to that!
I sense still some anger in your delivery, but as time passes, through sobriety you will grow to loose that and be much more at piece within.
    Keep up the outstanding work!

Greetings! I’m one of the new bunch that saw your 3 year sober video recently, it was suggested to me by UA-cam as I’ve been watching different sobriety videos to help me understand what a close friend is going through currently, they are at 125 days.
I’ve never been fond of alcohol so I don’t drink, which I’m grateful for as I do believe if I did then I’d have a problem with it myself.
After watching a few of your videos and then seeing you hadn’t posted in a while I was hoping all was ok, so I’m glad to see you post this update today.
I also recognised the pylons on the Hill right away, I’m over in Tewkesbury, used to spend Sunday mornings up their with my Dad as a kid.

Your video popped up on my UA-cam search yesterday and wow. I've subscribed now and you are so motivating to me. I'm on day 5 having many issues all related to alcohol and starting my first run this morning. Please keep uploading as it gives me an extra strength to succeed. I'm 37 and been drinking 20 years now, longest dry spell about 6 weeks. Thanks freetoby. I'm more motivated than ever now. Much respect to you.

I started this morning with your video a few months back that included depression. I am fortunate that I never had a problem with alcohol, but my 31 year old son has since the age of 15. Your work here is of great value, you are changing hearts and minds. Please don't give up and don't stop making these videos, just look at the comments and the number of people that you are supporting and encouraging.
I simply cannot say enough positive about these efforts, you are making a difference on a global scale, one person at a time and likely one day at a time. Thank you.
I look forward to hearing more about your thoughts on minimalism, financial responsibility and healthy feeding.

Just discovered your videos last night. Really resonate with all the stuff you talk about..alcohol, social pressures, accountability etc. I gave up drinking a few years ago after crippling anxiety, low motivation and self esteem. I really dont miss it one bit, although always battling other negative vices, but I feel lucky as like yourself I've lots of hobbies, passions and interests to keep me fulfilled. Definitely boredom and lack of direction make it hard for people struggling to keep off it. Keep on sharing your message mate, it helps people and has given me a healthy reminder and reassurance. Cheers

Thanks man, this video has helped me, I was feeling very alone and dejected after f**king up once again with alcohol. I have done 4 months sober and a few times for 1 or 2 months, And that feeling of not being chained to a mental Anvil all the time was amazing. I do truly believe I have it in me to turn my back on the booze burden forever. A video like this is an inspiration to me. Good work and Thank you

Hey, just came across your channel the other day. Really appreciate the words man. Just subbed. I'm going through the on and off the wagon stage. I used to drink every day then about a year and a half ago I decided I wanted to stop. I was sober for 4 months then started again for a few months then off then on again, only on weekends. Most recently I went 3 months and made it through Christmas and New Years then I slipped up last weekend and got hammered when I cracked under peer pressure at a friends bday. Right back on the wagon now. Its really incredible how much more I excel at every aspect of my life when I dont drink. Save money, exercise more, got employee of the month ect. The dream is stay off of it. I feel so horrible for up to a week after a day of drinking these days. Depression, anxiety and all that. Listening to you definitely helps put things into perspective. Lots of big opportunities coming up for me over the next few months and I will be much better off heading into it all with a sober mind set. Look forward to more videos from ya.
I also recently lost a friend back in October. It was due to drinking. He had just recently got married as well. It felt a shitty thing to do to have a drink in his honor considering it the drinking that killed him. I use it as fuel to better myself. I was on that path myself. Condolences on your loss mate.
Did you think of or have a Discord group going on? That would be a useful community tool.

I saw your 3 year sober video recently.. And I honestly don't know why but for some reason it struck a chord with me.. And after many years of drinking and many goes at stopping I finally have given up the booze.. I am 12 days clear now and I just know deep down inside that this is the time.. I have it beaten and I will never take an alcoholic drink again.. My marriage was on the rocks as well as my health and since stopping I feel great and have started an exercise routine and am building bridges with my wife and am optimistic for the future.. Sure its a long road but this time I want to make it and I know I can.. Keep up the videos and the good work they are doing for people. Its great to know that there are many people out there going threw the same thing. I get great strength from that.. :)
