    Hi!
We are Kathrin and Daniel. We sail, cruise and live aboard our sailing yacht SV Polaris Helvetica, a Bavaria Cruiser 46 since spriung 2021. We left our native Switzerland and moved to the UK almost two decades ago. In 2021, in our mid 50-ies, after our three boys left the nest we made a big decision. We left the rat race in London behind and made our beloved Polaris our primary floating home.
Over the years we have added many upgrades to Polaris. We got rid of the standard propane gas cooker and replaced it with an electric cooker and oven. We fitted a generator and changed to a lithium (LiFePo) house battery bank. We added a 1'200W solar arch and a water maker. We added an inner forestay for a working jib and a storm sail. With all these upgrades Polaris is now a comfortable live aboard yacht. We sail her along Scotland's beautiful coastline and we live on her summer and winter.
Kathrin loves cooking and baking on board. You will see some of her cookery wonders across our episodes.
We completely fell in love with our new lifestyle although we had to make some tough decisions. We vacated our rented house in London and sold or gave away all our belongings that had no space on Polaris. What a very liberating feeling to be able to say that all we own is with us on our small sailing boat. There's nothing else to care about. We enjoy our new freedom. We explore new places, discover their history and we love making new friends along our way.

Very nice Video. An excellent example how good and careful passage planning will see you safely thru. Good job.
Might see you in Largs next winter. Do you stay on your boat or haul her ashore and leave?

Thank you for your comment Maurizio! We will mainly stay on the boat in the water except for a maintenance haul out (but we will stay on board). We‘ll fly back to Switzerland for X-mas but plan to be back in January.

It’s THE Mull for me in a few weeks so your vid’ is part of my researching. Cheers for that.
I noticed again that you wear headsets when ‘coming-in’. What are they & what’s the purpose?
No rush for a reply if you’re busy.
    Regards

      Hi John
Thanks for watching and good luck with the planning - you will enjoy it!
We use wireless bluetooth headsets to communicate at a normal voice. Signs don‘t work for us, particularly in situations when both hands are needed for a job at the bow or when the person at the bow can‘t turn their head back. We call them „marriage savers“… the make is Sena SPH-10.
      Best regards,
      Daniel

Really enjoying your informative videos as we are hoping to cruise the area this year, well we are pointing that direction from the South Coast of the UK and hopeful we will get that far. I was interested to see your charts displayed on your TV screen how have you hooked this up?

Thanks for watching and for your comment.
I only did this once, I think. Our smart TV has a mirroring function with the iPad or iPhone.
Enjoy cruising in Scotland, it‘s a magical place!

Would you mind explaining the aid to passage planning (graph) that you were using @ 2:58 on one of your videos? I'm not the sharpest tool in the box 🥳so you would need to start with a blank piece of graph paper. Looking forward to your adventures and beyond.

Hi Daniel, Can you tell me what is the 'book of tides & currents' you are using for your west-coast island adventures? Thanks 🙂

      Hi Rod
We use the Clyde Cruising Club Sailing Directions and Anchorages along Navily App and the CAptains Mate App (Cruising Association). For anchorages we mainly use Antares Charts.
