I was thinking the same about grass ogerpon, a lot of hype but the great dual typings and abilities of the fire/water one (and the attack boost ability for the Tera fire one) give them the edge in my view
Ogerpon gets access to stomping tantrum as well, making it good against Heatran. Fire type Ogerpon with wood hammer/ivy cudgel/stomping/spiky shield is very good against the reg D meta.
It's always nice to hear your thoughts about the game. I can't decide which version of Ogerpon is the best but I like the versatility of the water one. Being able to redirect urshifu and amoonguss is so good
While a part of me hopes that Ogerpon's masks are meant to be as strong as they are, I can't help but feel they may have only been meant to boost Ogerpon's stab moves because of how many bugs have affected the competitive meta
Rock type is actually the BEST dual type the grass type could have. You lose weakness to fire, flying and poison as a grass type and you are not weak to water, ground or grass as a rock type. It is a shame though that it has Sturdy, despite getting DEFENSE bonus. It's like... sure it may survive on 1 hp and then terastalize for more dmg... but then that defense bonus become pointless. As for Water version i would definetly run it bulky, though again 4x resist to water makes Water Absorb kinda lame BUT with Follow Me it can help your allies while you absorb water hits for HP. Mold Breaker on Fire version seems the best BUT again if you terastalize you losing it and suddenly can't hit flash fire mobs or Sap Sipper ones with your STAB, making you... not want to terastalize... Ergo pure grass seems best because it can keep Defiant bonus to attack that it gained before terastalizing and then gain bonus speed and on top of that it might have Life Orb or even Choice Band to really hit hard even on resisted hits. Pure grass will also not lose its immunity to spores and rage powders after terastalizing. Alternatively it could have Assault Vest to mimic water version bonus, though at that point you won't use Follow Me. So imo, type-wise Rock version is the best (could use Counter with Sturdy i suppose and maybe Horn Leech to get back to full afterwards) For the Follow Me usage water type seems best Grass is great for outspeeding and having flexibiility in item choice (might try some gimicky options such as red card) Fire is... way too straightforward, but again since sun teams are OP already this might get the most usage, even though there are better options for sun teams. You might also use it's ground moves to hit Levitate mons (i.e. Poison/Steel tera Hydreigon or any Rotom, also the Eelectross) thx to Mold Breaker - you just have to remember that gaining extra att bonus from Terastalizing will make you lose the ability to do that. Manual sun from prankster gennies is super common right now from my experience at least so i'd say fire type ogerpon will become most common one. As for me personally i will be using water version, because i wanna make mono water team and it's the first time i got to use Follow Me on water type mon. Iirc some event Blastoise used to be able to do that at one point in the history... but it was removed from available moves for it sadly.
Rock Ogrepon gets +1 Defense from Terastalization, and if you can get her under Sand, a +1 to Special Defense Being neutral to Bleakwind Storm is probably another huge plus, with a Super Effective Ivy Cudgel packing a punch You do become weaker to Urshifu though, but you could run Counter, Play Rough, or U Turn
Best one is easily fire, the masks aren't just form changing they give a 1.2x boost, mold breaker is an amazing ability, grass fire great typing especially with stomping tantrum coverage, and getting basically pre nerf intrepid sword on top of a tera boost and the mask boost just further takes it over the edge
One interesting tech that I found is fire ogerpon (I was torn between fire and water for this strat) and rillaboom both with grassy glide and if you lead with them you can do a lot of interesting things like turn 1 koing flutter mane. This seems kind of jank but in closed teamsheet it really could thrive.
Thanks for the video! One minor correction because it is incorrect on Showdown. The masks boost different stats depending on the typing. Teal Mask is Speed, Water is SpDef, Rock is Def and Fire is attack.
I love all of ogerpons mask forms. At first I thought the grass/rock from would be my favorite, however Im thinking about using the teal mask form with grassy terrain using grassy seed for a defense boost
Okay hear me out but rock ogerpon can stop tailwind with the genies if you pair it with rillaboom. Fake out the tornadus with rilla then ivy cudgel the genie to 1 shot it and now that you used rillaboom you have 2 hard hitting grassy glides but the option to still use other moves because you shut down tailwind and if you put helping hand on rock ogerpon you can one shot flutter mane with rillaboom grassy glide
Honestly speaking, the Singular typing and Inflexibility of it's Tera Type is the only thing holding back the Teal Mask. The Hearthflame and Wellspring masks having good offensive and defensive typings respectively with very flattering abilities on top of the mask boost. Those factors just makes those forms just edge that slight bit further ahead of base, but base is still really strong in it's own regard.
Sunny day fire ogerpon is gonna be nice if you use solar blade instead of wood hammer because now there's no draw backs and ivy cudgel is being boosted with the mask and mask multiplier. And defensively, every fire weakness, when tera, covered all by grass. Everyone was telling me teal mask, but this fire one is honestly the best, especially in sun teams.
Commenting for the algorithm before even watching the video :)) I feel like Grass Mask form is a bait. I tried fitting an Ogerpon on my team because I love her, but I found her movepool to be a bit shallower than I was hoping for. I really want to stay in Teal Mask for Defiant, but I think Ogerpon is really reliant on Ivy Cudgel for coverage, and they Wood Hammer or Horn Leech could be her Grass move. I've been trying out Water Form Ogrepon because the Water/Grass coverage is exactly what my team needs. Too bad that Water Absorb is the least useful ability for her! How I wish I could just keep Defiant
I think as Fire Mask gets more popular, others will use Rock as a counter towards it since the Defense good allow it to survive one hit from Hearthflame.
Wouldn't water mask be more efficient if you want to counter? Rock mask good into but I don't think you want it's role to be there just to counter fire mask
Fire ogerpon also does ignore dozos unaware; ig this is only relevant with swords dance since when you tera you lose mold breaker. But it can hit it with strong wood hammers
I think the fact that you can finally have a powerful physical rock type move with 100 accuracy and no drawbacks is huge. It’s great for the other types too because they have an option without recoil.
Is there a world where we are running Focus Energy a la early series Hydreigon for 100% crits on Cudgel? I guess maybe if defensive setup becomes a bigger thing.
haven't watched all of it yet so maybe you mention it but another reason why the pure grass ogerpon isn;t as good is the mask items for the other three give a 1.2x damage boost to all attacks. obviously you can run grass plate or something on the regular ogerpon but you're still missing the advantages the other types have
I am really getting tired of how Pokemon introduces new overpowered stuff. First Urshifu from the previous Gen, now this, in particular the fire one. We are quickly reaching a point where we actually need at least one heavy hitting hard legendary on teams so we can have some variety in the meta. Look at 2023 Worlds, it was Urshifu Central, all Top 10 teams had it, the vast majority with Chien-Pao. Now there is Ogerpon to invalidate Fire-Water-Grass cores and of course it will fit right in, this time with a broken item rather than ability. Not to forget, the signature move already is on the same power level as those of hard legendaries, it is 100 100 with additional benefits, add the item and it is literally superior, with a nice little benefit to all of its other attacks as well. Truth be told, its item is absolutely superior to some of those legendary specific items and most people would absolutely play this item if it was widely available, it is basically a slightly weaker Life Orb without downsides. You can clearly tell how Ogerpon is here just to absolutely make sure to sell the DLC to competitive players. Most regular Pokemon would need their Mega (if available) to even be playable at this point. At first I had some hope for this gen, Paradox forms seemed (to some degree still seem) like a good idea to mix things up and make some underdogs viable, but as you said, for example Ogerpon can 1 shot Iron Hands. Let that think in, if it can do that, it is probably powerful enough to one hit Heatran with a fire type move thanks to Mold Breaker. I didn't think I would see the day when Heatran is invalidated by a fire-grass type Pokemon, the level of nonsense going on in this generation is crazy.
It is gonna be overpowered because nobody will want to hurt the precious baby, she's just too cute
Too true
I didn't realize the masks all gave a 1.2x boost to all attacks. That's big, doesn't make them feel like a wasted item slot now
I was thinking the same about grass ogerpon, a lot of hype but the great dual typings and abilities of the fire/water one (and the attack boost ability for the Tera fire one) give them the edge in my view

This talk of grass type options makes me wish Meowscarada got Fake Out. It’s the only cat Pokémon without it

@ericsmith5826 Water Mask would be better I will admit, I just want Rock to win since many dislike it lol

It needs to learn rock slide for cornerstone to have a legitimate place
I'm *pretty sure* that tera'd fire ogerpon can OHKO water urshifu with horn leech, which is kinda nuts lol
Thank you being so kind help me and these people to better understand you God amen
8:46 Meow deserves mention here
miss you fam!
Been using fire ogerpon with mold breaker helping hand into gholdengo make it rain and having a lot of fun with it
I use stall Ogerpon with leech seed, substitute, ivy cudgel, and protect. Also tera grass with leftover’s
The grass one will probably be really good with scoped lens, 100% crit with ivy cudgel can be really oppressive I think
Why would it be 100% Crit?
@@noahbrown2100ivy cudel has increased crit already.
@@noahbrown2100 I might be mistaken and it’s a 50% crit rate, either way it’s a decent item for it.
@@kristofferjohansen2780 the only way to make it 100 is focus energy on top of scope lense I beleive?

Water Urshifu for sure gonna die

haha ogerpon go bonk
