Such fun. When I heard Lancaster singing in Elmer Gantry I thought it had to be dubbed but after watching almost all the rest of his films, especially A Child is Waiting and Scalphunters, that seems to really be him. Absolutely wonderful actor.
WOW! Had no clue that something like this even existed. I was at a recording studio where Lancaster was shooting a Public Service Announcement and when he walked in, he was so stunning, it felt like he filled the entire room with his presence. What a lovely human being.
Isn't this brilliant. These two, with prestigious separate careers, but also with those careers so inextricably entwined that when one of them needs to tell a story in the company of a second principal who would not be dwarfed by him, the other one gets the call... ...and they do this, this musical comedy "thing" that neither one of them is known for, flawlessly, and (seemingly, but I know there was a sh*t-load of rehearsal here) effortlessly... ...and in front of the most demanding audience imaginable. BRILLIANT.
Great understanding of what these two great actors did in their own movies and together, but doing something no one would know of, this is what you call talent. Not much exists these days.
In old Hollywood, most actors learned to dance, sing, and perform. Many of them were all rounders, because they were expected to bring real skills to their roles.

That is because during that era when you were not acting , you were taking dancing lesions, singing lesson s etc... you were honing your craft to be as well rounded as possible.
It's a great injustice that the Academy has given only one Oscar to Burt Lancaster and none to Kirk Douglas. But who cares? They are in the Olympus of greatest actors of all times. Very beautiful video.
In his interviews, Kirk was known for his humor and wit. Burt Lancaster was not known to be humorous at all and at times was unapproachable, but here is the rare instance and also the sesame street appearance...
I had never seen this before, great clip. I saw Burt and Kirk perform in a 2 man play as Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer in San Francisco back in the late 70's.
How many great serious actors today could get up and dance, sing and be funny on stage today?.. few to none I would guess. These stars were truly great in every sense. Amazed and delighted that Kirk Douglas is still alive and kicking at 99!

Frank Gorshin once did a hilarious imitation of a conversation between Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. Burt was tall, Kirk was short, buy they both had TEETH. He switched back and forth really milking the teeth. I think it might have been the Ed Sullivan Show. I'd love to see that again !

Only those who have contributed a vast library of extraordinary work but who were never rightfully recognized by the Academy for sometimes dubious reasons. They are not 'participation' awards. These people had to actually EARN IT.
They could do it all...and did! Even the best actors of today aren't qualified to loose the strings of their shoes! Gentlemen don't get better than Douglas & Lancaster.
I loved their performances in 'The List of Adrian Messenger". My parents introduced me to this whodunit classic when I was a kid. Its rarely shown now, but its a great ensemble project

I'm 26 years old and I honestly enjoyed watching his 1960 romance movie with Kim called strangers when we meet. The Characters in that Era are so beautiful and they are so simple and polite and kind. Rest easy legend♥️
Ironically, Lancaster arguably should have received a best actor nomination for his portrayal of J.J. Hunsecker, the ruthless columnist modeled after Winchell in "Sweet Smell Of Success" and Douglas also deserved best actor recognition for his performance as Colonel Dax in Kubrick's "Paths Of Glory". Douglas was acknowledged by his son Michael at the recent Screen Actors Guild Awards, at which Michael won for his Liberace in "Behind The Candelabra"; the elder Douglas is 97.
Lancaster should've been nominated and won for Sweet Smell of Success. He also should've won for Atlantic City. I don't care for Douglas, over does it. I think Michael is a much better actor. And a better man.

Marvin's all night benders drove Lancaster crazy who was disciplined and prepared.
Actors back them were so versatile. They could sing , dance , act etc...you do not see that as much today.

I'm 26 years old and I honestly enjoyed watching his 1960 romance movie with Kim called strangers when we meet. The Characters in that Era are so beautiful and they are so simple and polite and kind. Rest easy legend♥️

Ironically, Lancaster arguably should have received a best actor nomination for his portrayal of J.J. Hunsecker, the ruthless columnist modeled after Winchell in "Sweet Smell Of Success" and Douglas also deserved best actor recognition for his performance as Colonel Dax in Kubrick's "Paths Of Glory". Douglas was acknowledged by his son Michael at the recent Screen Actors Guild Awards, at which Michael won for his Liberace in "Behind The Candelabra"; the elder Douglas is 97.
Lancaster should've been nominated and won for Sweet Smell of Success. He also should've won for Atlantic City.
I don't care for Douglas, over does it. I think Michael is a much better actor. And a better man.
