Such fun. When I heard Lancaster singing in Elmer Gantry I thought it had to be dubbed but after watching almost all the rest of his films, especially A Child is Waiting and Scalphunters, that seems to really be him. Absolutely wonderful actor.

WOW! Had no clue that something like this even existed. I was at a recording studio where Lancaster was shooting a Public Service Announcement and when he walked in, he was so stunning, it felt like he filled the entire room with his presence. What a lovely human being.

    Isn't this brilliant.
These two, with prestigious separate careers, but also with those careers so inextricably entwined that when one of them needs to tell a story in the company of a second principal who would not be dwarfed by him, the other one gets the call...
...and they do this, this musical comedy "thing" that neither one of them is known for, flawlessly, and (seemingly, but I know there was a sh*t-load of rehearsal here) effortlessly...
...and in front of the most demanding audience imaginable.
    BRILLIANT.

I can easily see these two guys on the road to Morocco, just to meet up with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby for the purpose of kicking their ass. Kirk and Burt were that hardcore.
The ad for their last film together in 1986 said it best.
    Kirk Douglas
    Burt Lancaster
    Friends for years (they were)
    Legends for life (they are!)
Tough Guys Forever (they will be!!!)
RIP to the OGs who wrote the book on how it's done! I will miss them both along with 75 percent of the free world!!! It's great they weren't nominated for Oscars, cos Oscar is not cool enough for these two!!! Oscar to Burt and Kirk is a damn grouch that stays in the trash can!!! Boom!

Frank Gorshin once did a hilarious imitation of a conversation between Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. Burt was tall, Kirk was short, buy they both had TEETH. He switched back and forth really milking the teeth. I think it might have been the Ed Sullivan Show. I'd love to see that again !

Ironically, Lancaster arguably should have received a best actor nomination for his portrayal of J.J. Hunsecker, the ruthless columnist modeled after Winchell in "Sweet Smell Of Success" and Douglas also deserved best actor recognition for his performance as Colonel Dax in Kubrick's "Paths Of Glory". Douglas was acknowledged by his son Michael at the recent Screen Actors Guild Awards, at which Michael won for his Liberace in "Behind The Candelabra"; the elder Douglas is 97.
