Probably the best and clearest tutorial on fixing fan blade wobbling. Thanks.

Thank you very much for sharing this, I just fixed a wobbling fan that was driving me crazy here. Fans in Brazil do not come with balancing kits so used a medium binder clip for finding the correct spot and then double side 3M foam tape with a 7g lead weight (those used in car wheels). Yes, the blade was very off. Now it is rock solid. Best!

So what is the next step after measuring the distance from the ceiling and you find one blade that is higher than the others?

Ha, well, if you can, try adjusting the blades by checking how they are attached. Being a little off is OK, but if you have a large difference you may have done something wring with the installation process, or your junction box that the fan is attached to may be uneven and out of balance. Give those a check and see if that helps.

Gonna try this tomorrow! The Hampton Bay fan in my master bedroom is 20 years old and has been rock solid (and ultra quiet), but lately has had a bit of a wobble that makes just enough of a tiny "squeak" on each rotation to drive me a bit batty when trying to sleep. Wish me luck!

Would the different in angle of each blade con tribute to the wobbling ? I notice couple of my blades do not have the same angle as the rest of the blades.

At 1:30 you installed the clip on the higher edge of the fan blade and 8 seconds later you turned the fan on in a clockwise rotation, thus the clip was on the leading edge. You said if that did not correct the wobble to install the clip onto another fan blade which you did at 1:46. But then a few seconds later you turned the fan on in a counter-clockwise rotation, thus the clip was on the trailing edge. After you installed the weight, the fan direction was reversed to a clockwise rotation. Which direction is correct while using the clip, and which edge should the clip be installed?

Sorry for any confusion! The clip is just meant to simulate the weight from the sticky weight and help you find the place on the blade to help attach that weight. Being on the trailing/leading edge of the blade should not make too much of a difference in this regard.

I wouldn't wish it on my worst ememy, but after 45 minutes of seething, I can cool off in silence and hear my own thoughts again.
