DRASCOMBE COASTER BATYR - TWW 2022 ~ Lauwersoog - Noordpolderzijl - Eemshaven - Emden - Lauwersoog

Since 1993, the Traditional Wadden Weekend is the annual outing of a selected type of Dutch Drascombe sailors. Third time sailed into German waters as Coaster Batyr (former Zeezot from Terschelling) was launched and recovered from the famed Drascombe harbour of Lauwersoog. The crew navigated the shallows N of Noordpolderzijl, managed to repair their failed centre plate webbing and pottered on to the German town of Emden. Bacon and eggs keep the crew happy during short daylight sails and dark early rises. This November 2022, again only one Coaster went, others possibly enjoy or shiver binging UA-cam!

Schöne Tour! Ich hatte vor 40 Jahren ein offenes Drascombe Longboat, wenn ich die Aufnahmen sehe ärgere ich mich das Ding verkauft zu haben.

Das kann ich mich vorstellen Tom! Den Longboat segelt merkbar besser dann den Coaster: leichter, mehr Quadratmeter Segel, keine Kajüte und zehn Zentimeter mehr Schwert. Mein Bruder Antoine segelte in sein NAVIS Longboat Kreisen um mein Coaster Yraida, aber ich hatte das schönste Aussicht und in schreckliches Wetter schnelle Schutz Möglichkeit hinter Yraida's Sprühhaube!

Would you buy and older Coaster or Drifter? Which is better and why?

Hi Kevin! So much depending on the year she has been build, use of the boat (trailer-sailed or afloat, kept on drying mooring or in a fresh water marina, kept in a well ventilated shaded barn or 24/7 afloat in full sunlight et cetera). And of course, what kind of captain has been taking care of her? A Coaster is a completely different boat and behaves much more like an open boat where the vintage Drifter is a stable and forgiving seagoing vessel to venture offshore. Recap: the Coaster has over four decades proven to be the perfect camping boat which can be trailer sailed single handed all over the place. Especially the pottering around, rowing, sculling, drying out and exploring the shallows steering with a sweep over the stern is what appeals to me. Drying out where no crowd, but just pure nature ever gets, another briljant Watkinson design!
