pietre is the deadliest assassin ever simply because he doesnt have emotions because hardest part of killing someone is definitely dealing with the feeling that just killed someone
I love the fact that Arby is so cold and calculating as a killer, but he still has very child-like elements, like the fact he walks like a toddler and is constantly eating chocolate raisins. It just goes to show how he never had a proper childhood and pretty much remained the same the very moment has father changed him into a killing machine.
The way the actor portrays this emotionally disconnected individual who was stripped of everything his identity, robbed to the very core so he could only find some vague purpose in life by doing what he was told is nothing short of exceptional. He truly is a flipped version of a normal person, his exterior presence so consumed by the ID that his actions often don't phase him as morals don't apply to a shadow being that is thrust down in the deepest recesses of a networking conspiracy. And his character arch is highly unusual yet sympathetic. what makes it so fascinating is that you never know where he is going to be, what hes going to do and how he is going to grow when he makes his next appearance. Hes like an toxic cloud, an apparition, destitute and lonely: desperately trying to put the pieces together to solve the riddle that is he. You only see his ego come out in the form of utter sensory stimulation when facing the thrill of mortal compromise (like when someone holds a gun to his head.) But then that very same expression starts to be shown when Jessica embraces him as a valuable but lost individual in need of love. He is tragic and poetic in his nebulous form. I never figured such a seemingly one dimensional character could have such singular magnetism.
@@samanthawilliamson4917 well its always nice to see someone who shares my passion and curiosity for this character. And ive seen Kill List multiple times and absolutely love it. Much like Utopia its a hard watch and ends up being more of a story of family tribulation and violence-based trauma than it is about gaudy surface-level concepts like cults and hitmen. Niel Maskill has an uncanny ability to humanize otherwise morally repugnant characters and I'm keen to see him in a another Ben Wheatley film. It was also neat that the fellow who plays his partner in Kill List was also the cop in the first few episodes who Pietre actually kills via what looked an attempt to make his death look like a botched tracheotomy(as he was clutching a sandwhich/chewing and RB stabs him in the throat.) Plus, interesting point about Pietre sounding like Petri so that could very well be the motivation behind giving him such a strange name(either that or his name is a reference to Peter Rabbit.)
in the 12 episodes that exist for this series there isnt a single bad episode, its 9 hours of some of the best storytelling and visuals ever made. And the soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal. Everythings at the end of season 2, with Arby recovering in hospital, Wilson set up as the new main antagonist after assuming the role of Mr Rabbit, Dugdale and his new family unit being under permanent surveillance, the threat of Janus still being present etc was just such a set up for a 3rd season that its heartbreaking that channel 4 called time on it. They did this to Top Boy and it was resurrected by Netflix as a continuation of the original with the most of the returning cast. What amazon has done with Utopia is not what anyone wanted or asked for - we dont want the thing remade in an american setting, muted violence, and crap writing. We want the original finished, if only for Neil Maskells unbelievable performance as Arby.
Utopia What IFs : -Grant didn’t spoke while witnessing Bejan’s death and got out undetected. (Would alert Lee and Pietre) -Ian didn’t called Milner and followed Jessica’s orders. -Wilson headshots Milner with the double barrel in S1 E3 because Wilson didn’t trust Milner’s request to cover her tracks. - Wilson didn’t switched sides to the network after Lett’s speech, while followed Jessica’s orders and helped save Grant.
I've loved watching RB because every scene he is in there is something happening, his actor's performance is great and as a written character I'd say he has such a depth to him that he becomes his own spectacle and with countless connections to his development he also serves as a reminder for good parenting.
Really amazing acting from this awesome actor. (thumbs up) The character and his background history are interesting, he grew up without a childhood, raised by lunatics, trained to kill, to be a killing machine, it's sad, but awesome at the same way.
I watched this years ago on 4OD not knowing there wasn't to be a series 3 and it still pisses me off today. Fantastic series. Recently watched it again on Prime before giving the new Utopia series a go, Prime doesn't show Arby killing Detective Reynolds for some reason does anybody know why? Just wondering why it has been cut
This guy Princess Diana's bodyguard, who survived the suspicious death of the accident. That bodyguard's name is Trevor Rees-Jones. He said he didn't remember anything after the accident. (Lie) As of 2021, Rees-Jones is said to be working as global head of security for pharmasutical company AstraZeneca. Arby-Pietre = Rees-Jones Do you see the facts? This series real.
Wow. Good job. Great editing. It cap tured the madness and confusion and intensity that I imagine is Raisin Boy's mind! Real talent to put together key points from a series, especially since so many trailers these days from 'professional' studios etc are so sh*te.
I have seen a lot of assassins, murders etc on tv but RB definitely gives me the chills . The American version has nothing on this guy
I watched US one first. Ur absolutely right.
pietre is the deadliest assassin ever simply because he doesnt have emotions because hardest part of killing someone is definitely dealing with the feeling that just killed someone
the only memorable thing US Pietre did was screaming

Arby (o Pietre) was my favourite character. I loved the way he walk, the way he talk, awesome character and awesome actor.
Where is Jessica Hyde?
yes i totally agree, he really got under my skin...
He's an excellent actor, RB was probably the most bat shit disturbed believable psychopath I have ever seen on screen.
A character who simultaneously creeped me out and pulled on my heartstrings all at the same time.
mine too,very much so....my heartstrings

I sometimes like to imagine an AU where the network never find him at the start of series 2 and he becomes a supportive step dad and husband.
I LOVE THIS
I WANT SOMEONE TO WRITE THIS OUT OR DRAW IT
id love that

Best character in one of the best (sadly short-lived) TV series.
