I’ve had a 300whp wrx, and currently have a 560whp sti, so I feel like I can speak on this.. just get the STI. You’re going to Google transmission swap later down the line when you realize your mistake. I promise.
True, STI transmissions are so amazing and dope! But I know I won't be building this car up like that but if you want big power get an STI for sure I agree! Thanks for the comment
300 whp is plenty fun for me not sure if an Sti would be any better if I'm not chasing much power past 350whp. I go back and forth mainly because I don't to trade up and lose what I upgraded on the wrx and have more debt but if the 2022 Sti is worth it then I'll upgrade.
@@Ieatzboltz fair, the new platform is going to be interesting. I’d say this. We have the 2.5 cracked. We know that works and what doesn’t. It depends on what you’re willing to spend at the end. Honestly. I’ll say this, I’ve had 300 on the 2.0, and 600 on a 2.5, and as of right now... the 2.5 with the Sti trans... another level. It’s night and day. I’m just saying. 600whp is more than you would ever need, and I still want more. And I have the chassis/trans to support it. See what im getting at?
This is why SubZeru just bought a STI :) WRX are known for glass transmissions. STI is better overall. Only reason to get WRX is it you're on a super tight budget and want to save a little more on gas if you'll be driving long distances. A lot of people I know traded in their WRX for a STI once they realized the truth.
The only real reason is cost. The wrx is cheaper to buy and run. That is the only reason... but then you spend thousands in tacky mods. Why does every UA-camr that tries to justify the wrx over the sti go out and buys a sti 3 years later. It's cope. You never see a sti owner make these videos. You don't see them regret their decision and trade down their car for a wrx. Delusion. 3:48 Not even REMOTELY true. A few hundred dollars extra per month? lol
I bought a Limited WRX, this car is my daily. The STI is awesome but super harsh and not as comfortable as the regular WRX. The WRX is still plenty fast and fun while being a solid daily!
Great video man. I think gas is subjective depending on your commute for work, especially with everyone teleworking. As an STI owner I will hands down admit the FA20 makes power super easy compared to an STI up til 400whp, after that though, both are gonna cost a pretty penny to get power out of and the WRX is limited fuel wise.
I've owned 2 FA20's to date, and I have to say the STI trans is a major aspect. I totally agree with most of what you say, but you can only build so far on the WRX trans.
@@ChristianHudnell Once you start building for big power, at present, the current FA20 DIT runs out of fueling over 500hp. At that point you will have to invest in a hybrid fueling system and a stand alone ECU like Motec. That's big bucks to solve. At that point DIT no longer an advantage and EJ has a half litre advantage in size. There will come a time, hopefully with the release of the next generation STI motor where this will be fixed and easier to upgrade without the huge cost. Motec alone is $10-15K upgrade. Until that time, bigger builds are going to be more cost effective with the current STI.
I bought the STI because I have bigger plans for it. $10k seems like a lot but when you look at upgrading the components that get skipped with the WRX (steering rack, trans, differentials, etc), you don't end up saving anything. Completely agree with your overall sentiment though, WRX is a great fun daily. If you just want something to add a bit of pep to then WRX all day. But I care too much about how the car feels. And if you are someone who really cares about that too then you're gonna want the STI. But really just go drive them and see if it matters to YOU!
Yeah, I agree with this. I've got about 13k in my WRX and can't push much more than 450ish because the transmission is going to explode. What's more, my wrx brakes are absolute trash. As far as mod money, it doesn't equate unless you saved up 40k in cash and bought a wrx. Otherwise, the payments aren't gonna be a huge difference.
I agree fully! Like i said, the STI all the way If it was my main build or car. However, I do mostly daily highway and occasional driving. Even if i had an STI it would almost be an investment I wouldn't fully use. I care about driver feel but it doesn;t compare to a Corvette especially the one i has when I had my corvette. I think most forget my subaru was my second car and literally just bought to have a fun daily haha. But the STI is a fantastic car, i just wouldn't invest much into it the way I should cause I have focus on corvettes. Thanks for message, I agree with a lot of what you said
I got my WRX #1 because it's been my dream car since the bug eye and I absolutely fell in love with the look of the 2015 WRX #2 I wanted to avoid the headaches of the EJ series motor.. while still having a very capable autox and daily driver. The added suspension upgrades of the sti were irrelevant to me as I'm gonna mod the suspension anyhow (also my profile pic is my old autox/daily lol) and 30hp isn't worth an extra $10k to me
You have done a great job modifying your WRX. Great comparison videos and the information is valuable for those folks deciding between the STI & WRX. God Bless! OG Mike
Thanks a lot man! Always appreciate you supporting as much as you do. Wanted to do a good comparison of the two for those interested. Glad the videos came out well
I initially thought I would get a WRX, but was very disappointed in the shifter feel and rev hang. When I finally test drove an STi it felt completely different. Much more mechanical feeling, with the hydraulic steering, better shift action, no rev hang, and also the DCCD. On paper those things don’t seem like they’d make that much difference, but if you care about driving feel, they really do. Plus, Subie Rumble 😁
@@ChristianHudnell Yeah, I know it’s kind of antiquated tech, but I came from an ‘05 Boxster S and I like the more old school feel to the STi. I’m interested to see what the next gen of both will be like 👍
Love both cars but ej for me and i currently just bought a 2019 sti. Did soo much research on all wrx/sti and currently subaru was sued for that problem on on the 2012-2017 wrx/sti. The 2019 and 2020 have newer rods and the 4th cylinder is better than the previous ones also short shifter. My plans in the future anyway is to get a built block eventually and my main power goal is 600hp to 650hp. People should understand that buying a performance car requires lots of maintenance and yes i already got a Aos installed for the car also a killer bee oil pan. At the end of the day everyone situation is different . But yea the wrx looking clean 👌
Appreciate the comment! Makes sense, like I said anything over 400 get the STI. I just have no plans on going over 400 simply because I have plans for other builds for that. Respect the comment and thanks for watching
When i got my 06 STI i debated over both and an EVO MR. The EVO had super harsh suspension so it was out. The WRX transmission from that era was not so good and that was the decision maker.
Great video, picked up a bugeye wrx and fell in love with the platform. Been debating if I would ever potentially like to get into an sti and your videos do a great job of going over things to consider. Keep up the great work!
That is awesome congrats! Thanks for watching and I am glad my videos help. I just want to give a non biased perspective and highlight the benefits of both. Appreciate compliments and you as well
I just did the same, picked up a bugeye wagon with a JDM engine swap, fun car been looking art newer WRXs since, this video might've change wanting an STI over the WRX, mainly because ill be daily driving it, plus the faster I can get to buying upgrades the better, also to mention saving a bunch on Insuance, I think if I wanted to build a car I don't daily then id go with an STI. Will more then likely own both before its all said and done, dream subies would be to daily a newer WRX and find a STI Hawkeye as a project. Thanks for all the info in this video, never knew the WRX made power easier then the STI, very helpful video
This came up in my recommended. I have to say, while I agree with some of your points on comfort and mileage, the bulletproof 6 speed and them Brembo's alone are worth the bit extra. I have a 13 STI Sport Tech and while it's rough on our roads (Calgary) and thirsty as hell, I didn't get this car thinking it'll be a quick Camry. I've been modding cars for a while and I've learned from much experience that eventually you'll need to stop quicker and need a trans to hold any serious power. Once you start getting power, even before the brakes and trans, you want it to transmit power to the ground = suspension. You have a beautiful car man, but I would make the same choice again and again. STI all the way. BTW - my love my temperamental EJ257 lol
I agree and feel you! At the time and even now I have a track Corvette so I literally just wanted a daily but didn't want to buy a camry or something HAHAHAHA. But the STIs are another level for sure and performance it isn't even close. Congrats on your car!
I daily my WRX, therefore more usable torque at 2-3K ish yet pulls all d way to 6k. Im a fan, not a purist hardcore so still prefer some comfort and softer ride
hahah a few hundred in insurance! I traded in a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta for a 2017 STI and only bumped my insurance 20 dollars more a month. Age and driver record is the key to insurance.
And location also matters. Home address matters a lot in California for sure. I was 26 at time of purchasing the Subaru. Good driving record. I got really good insurance rate. I’m just saying for average driver, with young age, and not best area of home address it can be expensive. Of course everyone’s situation isn’t same or different. Thanks for watching and the comment I agree
I own a 2020 wrx and I love it.All the reasons you point out make so much sense!!I am not a big mod guy but i will probably do a couple of things to mine in the near future!!!I love the speed and the agility of mine!!Bought it and never looked back!!Thanks again for your insight 👍
I owe 10k on my 2019 wrx do I really want to add another 15k to 20k to my debt 😐 Simply probably not worth trading up. I'll just build it for more power even then 300 whp is plenty fun.
I am an STI owner in the UK so we don't even get the option of the WRX FA engine. Although I love my STI I would have definitely liked the option of the FA for most of the points you made. Great looking car btw!
I love this so much haha. I was debating wether I should get a STI or WRX but why spend so much extra money on an STi. Thanks for this video. I love the car btw
I love everything about the STI except the EJ25, it can’t be trusted for hard/track driving (rings, head gaskets, spun bearings). The FA20 is a much more reliable option. A WRX with some lights mods is just as capable in the hands of most people.
Yeah I agree, the engine is what is holding the STI back and i believe the next gen will really make it more efficient and stronger. Thank you for watching
Light mods ? Drivetrain and breaks alone are worlds apart, especially at the track. The EJ issues you mentioned are 100% error 404 target not found driver Mod.
Your Mother should of swallowed thank you lmao ppl keep talking about ej being unreliable, but whats unreliable is the lack of understanding on how to pace your modifications
@@PRgencoupe cookie cutter mods, poor tuners and poor owners ruin the EJ name. I hope the FA or FB what ever the name they're using in the STI has the major design flaws worked out before they drop one in the STI. Since it's a dual manufacturer design, maybe they're planning on using the Toyota dual injection system. DIT is awesome for torque but has it's limits. Like the Coyotes of 2018+ got dual injection and that made me happy. The FA going into the STI is gonna make the 19+ cars hold value much longer than previous years. One good thing, aftermarket prices for the EJ will go down finally ;-) lol
Just traded in my WRX for an STI this past Monday. I learned a lot and I’m glad I got the WRX first. The STI really shows what I was missing in the WRX. Insurance for me changed by $5/month. I really like the NVH on the STI as I did upgrade some mounts and random drivetrain mods on the WRX to really feel more of the car. I can really tell the STI is a lot more powerful on the top end where as the WRX just falls on its face.
The EJ257 is not a strong engine (except for the latest revision which finally got upgraded internals), but same goes for the FA20DIT as it has some very weak internals. Honestly, both are pathetic for making good reliable power without major investments compared to the competition. The FA20 certainly has much better fuel economy though, that much is true. No matter how much money you put into a WRX, it still has a sub-par 6-speed transmission that has had major reliability problems, especially on earlier current gen WRX models. It's weak, it has a bad shifting feel, and a vague clutch. Also, open diffs with brake vectoring suck. At the end of the day you get a WRX for the lower price and better fuel economy and an STI for everything else.
Yeah pretty much I agree! I actually believe these cars aren't meant to be built heavily honestly. These cars should have a few things get to 350-400 and call it a day before heavy spending. At that point may as well buy a different car and have a better platform. Thanks for comment, I agree
I hear ya brother. I own a 2017 WRX and I'm very happy with it. I only put OEM foglights on it and a vortex generator. World rally blue and it drives very good. I can't wait for the new STI in 2022. I have to graduate. Great video and stay safe brother 🙏
An STI trans alone is 6k not including labor! So technically you get everything else for free! But what do you know....2019+ STI’s stock ej25 handles 500whp all day!!! Do your research! STOCK STI Transmition handles 1000hp! That’s why STI!
Currently in an 07 accord auto with the k24a8, it’s a fun platform and I love it to death but it has left me wanting more out of a sedan, ( power, traction, 3 pedals) and I live with snowy mountains all around me from nov-feb, and usually can’t go anywhere in the wintertime as a front wheel drive with chains and only 170hp doesn’t do much to pull its own weight, this video definitely has me inspired to go with a WRX over a STI or BRZ
Awesome and glad video could help! If you had the funds and like the STI that is a excellent choice. If not or want more efficient car with gas and reliable, the 15+WRXs are nice :)
You are right in all ways but i love UEL headers (a.k.a. STI rumble) and you can change the diff configuration. Other than this they are pretty much the same car.
got a 2019 STI, keeping it stock except the muffler delete. I'd rather not dabble into ruining the car early. The car has only depreciated only 3k since having it for 2 years.
exactly agree with the sti my older brother has sti and i have a wrx he always say to me that we swap car cause his sti is really thirsty and begging for gas we even fill it full tank and drove same city and when i see his fuel indicator it really drinks alot of gas unlike my wrx i didnt even see that my gas was consumed.
Hmmm not really, I have heard more STI cars blowing engine then WRX. I believe Subies should be under 400 HP to be safe and reliable only on 4 cylinders
i test drove both. the sti just feels raw. also my insurance was the same for both. not sure why you had that issue. i also didn't buy a car to worry about gas mileage. not a bad video though.
I’ve driven my friends stock 18’ STi last year. I just drove a different friends 16’ STi today. One thing is for sure, they sound great! 2nd thing is for certain that transmission is beast. But other than that... to be 100% honest, I enjoy driving my FBO e85 18’ WRX over those any day. Maybe it’s because I’m so use to my cars delivery, feel, and power I don’t know 🤷🏻♂️ All that drive made me want to do is instead of parting out.. all I need now is that transmission and I’m golden.
If you are looking straight up for performance... Just buy an STi. If you go for the WRX you will just end up trying to make it an STI with 6speed DCCD gearbox, brakes, bigger TMIC and so on... And it still won't be an STI
This is the beset comparison video I’ve see on these! I’m looking to get the new 2022. What kind of engine/bolt on mods did you do to get more power out of it? Thanks!
100% agree on your points, especially that last one. Don't let all these little mods on a car that you don't plan to keep (or isn't your dream build) distract you from saving on the car you ultimately want.
Mod money should not be your #1 reason to buy a WRX. If it is, then you should buy a Honda Fit and go to town. Each platform has their +/-, and actually suffer some of the same short comings. However, purchase price and insurance do play a major factor btwn the 2. After my year with my WRX, I should have gone Genesis G70 6m in hondsight and add winter tires which I had to do anyway with the Dunlop SportMaxx.
Test drove a wrx today. Never had a “fast car”. I’m obsessed. I am test driving an sti but is the rumble worth the stiffness and gas etc. we shall see who knows
Sucks the wrx still has a glass trans. So after paying for a sti 6 speed you’re left with barely enough money for bolt ons. Also if you’re looking for big hp the fa20 lacks a ton due to r&d
(Husband) I had a 15 WRX. Just got an STI. Hands down, the STI is THE car to own out of the 2. Sure the wrx has its points. But STI, better transmission, longer and more refined EJ257 throughout time, Can mod the STI better. All around the STI is big brother for a reason. Better 6 speed. I know the differences between the engines of course. Better chassis and racing thoroughbred. STI has better suspension. I know, I owned an 05 STi. The refined suspension is very livable. Big difference. 42 more HP. So I totally disagree. And we know, as I proved to noone but myself, 0-60 comes at 4.6 seconds, not the posted 5. whatever. That's stock. I understand your points, but totally disagree. You can get so much more power out of the STI. STI is worth the money, and come trade-in, will hold much more value then wrx.
I agree with the points as far as the car but those are all performance variables. 90% of Subaru owners hardly even do performance for the car. It’s actually funny cause I just upgraded to an STI so I’ll be able to compare the two but I agree the STI is a more dominant car then the WRX in performance for sure
If your insurance is multiple hundreds of dollars a month, then yeah I don't know what to tell you. My '19 STi Limited is $115.50 per month/paid every six months (Full Coverage, Non-Insured Motorist, Comprehensive, Collision etc.). I'm 29 and JUST got one of these two months ago. Just wait until you're at least 25 years old plus. You're nuts if you're paying that much a month in car insurance.
Are you sure about the insurance costs for the WRX and STI? I think its more age-related than car-related. I have a 2017 WRX and I considered switching over to an STI a couple times. I was quoted by my insurance to be $20 less than my WRX surprisingly.
When you first got your WRX, you were younger, record wasn;t as long, may have moved to different area. etc. When you went to get STI you were older and not all variables were the same. also, cars have different rates based where you live, how where you live drivers are etc
True but for everyday driving brembos aren't needed. If you track STI, if everyday driving you can get one but hardly would use all the goodies everyday personally
@@ChristianHudnell for sure but then you got the people who buys wrxs and then regret not buying an sti. Two whole different cars in the same chassis. Everyones gonna wanna upgrade and the wrx trans can only take so much. So that means sti 6 speed swap and so on. Dont also forget the rumble fanboys that puts uelh on wrxs too. Plenty more to go on.
Have had both an fa20 dit WRX and a type RA STI. The STI is a much, much better car. Brakes, suspension, drivetrain, and if you pro tune, power. (Type RA block is good for 400 to some say 500whp….). No carbon build up. Better sound. And while not a new engine, it is a classic like a v12 Ferrari engine…sometimes old is not bad. I don’t worry about mileage…if I did, I’d have gotten a golf r.
Awesome video. I am going to get a st a limited soon and have been trying to figure out all the mods that I will be able to do without voiding any warranty.
STIs depreciate much less than WRXs. If I am looking at this from a 100% ownership perspective, then I am also considering how much I can sell it for when I want to move on to the next thing.
I just came from a comparison video of a Mustang EcoBoost vs V8 because I was curious of the differences and I gotta say...I’m proud of us WRX/STI owners. The comments section for the other video were toxic V8 owners shitting on EcoBoost owners. I guess I can see their point of view but still, there’s pros and cons to both cars. Here? Even though the STI is superior and we all know it, I see STI owners giving WRX owners some great tuning/upgrades advice. I love the positivity.
Yeah I agree as well! It is nice to have some cool subie owners respect another well here. Always about being positive with another and building each other up. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video
I only stuck with the wrx due to my insurance being too much on the sti. i had an opportunity to get it but i’ll just wait till i’m more financially available for it. but hey, not many 18 year olds can say their driving a 2018 wrx so i feel accomplished 😂
It’s all about how you are going to use the car. The WRX is better for daily driving. The STI is better for track. Even tho the STI has greater hp it takes longer to hit maximum power. Whereas the WRX you hit maximum power at shorter rpms than the STI.
Exactly! I agree as well too. The STI works very hard to get power through RPM and WRX is more usable everyday. However, both cars have their benefits in different ways. Thanks for the comment
I’ll be retiring (trading in) my STI in a few months for the civic type R. I love my STI but I just can’t trust doing bolt ons and making power because of the engine. I must say it has been a fantastic daily for me both in the winter and the summer. Super comfy and super smooth!
Congrats man! The Type R is an awesome and amazing car. I’m glad you enjoyed the STI they are fantastic cars all around and really are fun. Thanks for watching and commenting and supporting the channel man. I really appreciate it
@@alexc8231 only problem is that im not someone who wants power goals above like 300-350 whp. the Type R stock block can handle that easy with just bolt ons. The sti would cost me an arm and a leg for the block to be built then to buy the bolt ons are even insane. my sti is a 2016 sport tech (limited).
@@Eric-qx7fg you could easily hit those numbers without doing much to the engine but at the end of day it is your choice. I was going to purchase a type r as well test drove it and overall it's a reliable fast car because its a honda but im coming from a Acura soo i got bored then decided to get a wrx, type r or sti, and the sti has amazing handling and not going back since the 2019 and 2020 have the stock internals more stronger 💪 soo no more failure in the engine and im happy with the sti
I bought the STI so that I don't need to change anything from the factory. If I bought the WRX & put all the STI parts in from factory, I wouldn't get the extra resale value that the STI will have for pretty much the same parts. Also, if you bought a WRX & put 10k into it, wouldn't it have similar gas mileage to the STI? I realize its a bigger motor in the STI, but wouldn't adding more power than the STI stock still tank the gas mileage to nearly the same or worse? Personally, I do not drive much & I just wanted a nice car that feels semi modded right out of the box. I know these cars have a bad rep for expensive engine repairs, & I bought a new one because I believe it might be user error & poor user maintenance. I don't want to change anything & I want to baby it throughout its life, so I believe moding it may damage or hurt its life span. Anyway, even though I do not fully agree with some of your points, great video! I enjoyed the watch & if I did want to mod the car, I would have gone WRX for sure. Please let me know what you think about my perspective. Thanks for the vid! Keep it up
Thanks! I also appreciate and agree with many of your points for sure! Thanks for the comment and for your thoughts. I appreciated the read and thank you for taking time out your day to comment
How reliable are the WRX? Considering a manual civic hatch, Si or WRX I know tuned hatches and Si are faster than stock wrx. Is the WRX worth the 5-7k extra price?
Hey thanks for comment! Honestly, the WRX to me is pretty reliable. You can get some nice used ones for like 18-22k right now. I know the Si civics are really cool. My advice, is which car would you like to own 5 years from now and long term wise. both are excellent cars but go with the one you feel is best and the one that feels right to you
I think everyone has their opinion ..i got an 05 sti ..and all the buddies with newer wrxs took a drive in it and they wanted one after few minutes of driving it ...your wrx is nice though
I appreciate it! The 04-05 STIs are some of most wanted subarus of all time so I dont doubt that haha. Lightweight and raw feeling of car is awesome. Thanks for comment
I just got a sti and I would like to say he is false on the insurance I only pay 108 for full coverage and I'm only 22 but I dont get pulled over either.
What’s your opinion on the WRX transmission gears? I hear some refer to them as glass gears vs the STi ones are much more durable.. but otherwise I agree with this video general idea.
The newer 6 -speed 15+ WRX transmissions are much better then thee old 5-speed ones. They aren't as good as the STI but for thee power my car has it feels really good
I’m wondering what to get. Will take any comments over what I should do lol My reasoning as to why I would get an STI is just because it is a STI and for the badge lol could care less about HP or tracking. I will never track any of these cars but would like to have fun daily driving my only car. I drive about 60 miles total to work most of the week. If I got a WRX I would probably do a stage 1 tune or S2 after 10k miles and supporting parts for efficiency. Nothing crazy. I’m leaning towards the WRX(I also don’t like the wing)
Hmmmm Depends on future plans and builds hoenstly. If it will be only car id say get STI. If you plan on buying a faster car someday or a bigger build go WRX personally. The STI is an amazing car though and if that first choice go for it :)
I had a 13 STi and I got better gas mileage in my 460HP Mustang GT and my 2016 Camaro SS. It was a great car but now have an 18 WRX. STi handled better no question but that’s about it. Feels about the same quickness on stage 1+
I'll admit the WRX is going to be a better daily for the street and highway. And if you want the STI for a daily, that is also fine, it will be worse gas mileage sure but its whatever makes you happy really
Love what youve done to your wrx 😍 nice mods love the colour by the way how much would it cost to get that much power ive got an wrx club spec 2012 running 300hp after stage 1 but need that 400hp power man also did you have to swap out your trans?
Thanks for the compliments and comments! I still have the stock trans in the car and I actually made a video breakdown of my mods and pay. I am not fully sure how much it would cost you but there are so many builds they are out there on internet for sure. You have a 2.5L so a little different but congrats on car and thanks for the comment
thanks a lot bro! I really try to make good videos and fun videos. I want others to enjoy the channel and put my effort into doing that. Appreciate the compliments and support
The car I bought isn’t crazy, it’s a little older but has like No miles at all, I think I’m gonna try to push 400WHP out of it and stick to that until I decide what I might move to or go further. P.S. it’s a 2011 WRX
Is a Wrx good for daily driving? My impreza is paid off and I was debating getting one since their now automatic transmission and I hate swapping clutch plates and flywheels.
@@ChristianHudnell what kind of gas mileage are you getting? I always have a K&N air filter to help with gas and I'm probably going to grt a cold air intake system to further help out.
Wrx owner here. Didn't realize I was driving an inferior car until I drove the sti. Anyone who says otherwise has not driven one or is lying to themselves.
What state are you in? I have a clean record and compared my STI to a base WRX and my insurance is way cheaper for an STI. It's like that with all insurance companies too in my state.
I am in california, I have a good record but there is a difference between the STI and WRX, could be the area and zip im in, but just saying that and the other things add up for sure
I felt the same. But you don’t save money on mods because it’s a wrx. Everything cost the same from intake to exhaust to j pipe ex…..Sti has a wayyyyyyy better transmission that’s almost built proof. If you are going to daily a car I do agree with you wrx is the better value. But for me it’s a sti!
Nice video bro. I have 2016 STI as my fun car and 2020 WRX Limited for my daily. If I could only have one car it would be the STI but I still love my WRX. Interestingly stock-for-stock I think my WRX feels quicker. However now that my STI is modified it is definitely much quicker LOL. On my STI I have ACT HD clutch and streetlite fly wheel, shifting is so much better than the WRX. I also love the rumble of the STI. For me having both is the perfect situation.
That’s awesome bro! Thanks for commenting. Having both would be super clean and legit. Yeah stock for stock no comparison. The STI mods you did I know make a big difference and the drive that much better. Both are amazing cars, just as you got WRX for daily I did too. Just gotta get another corvette again soon. Appreciate you watching thank you
Eh...I had a 2016 WRX and sold it to upgrade to a 2019 STI. Daily drive both, personally I like the STI More. I do however miss the MPG the WRX got but i didnt buy an STI to save money on gas. Edit: as far as driveability i also much prefer the STI. to me STI > WRX any day.
I agree. The driving mechanics are better on an STI stock for stock. I just prefer the flexibility to have a nicer looking car and added mods for daily. But the STI is awesome
@@ChristianHudnell fr man, my 16 wrx was stage 1 and would pop gun shots out the exhaust lol it was a fun car but after driving the sti i def love that more. im planning on going stage 1 on my sti soon.
Why would you want the glass transmission and FA motor ? You say save the money for mod money but then you’ll be blowing up your wrx before the sti so good thing you saved you’re money buying the wrx so you could have another engine ready, and don’t mention the car value going down where as the STI won’t be under 15k until MAYBE it’s 15-20 years old. The wrx is for cheapskates let’s just be honest
For me, a car is nothing w/ out it’s sound. And imo the FA20 in the WRX sounds way worse than an STI 2.5, and it’s due to the exhaust header lengths. Just my opinion
@@Ieatzboltz STI is at 350WHP with just fuel injector upgrades pretty much and nothing else.
Both great cars, but I feel much more connected to the road in my STI than the WRX I test drove. Love the old school hydraulic steering rack
I agree fully! The feel of the STI is way better then WRX. I agree too. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@redorb6024 no, and I'd probably love it. The new wrx has zero steering feel, but the current sti retained the old school hydraulic steering rack
@@devryndrives6623 New WRX sucks. Wouldn’t trade my 03 for a 2020!
Then there’s the 2015 wrx and it’s the stiffest year of them so all the benefits of the wrx with the closest feel of the sti
@@redorb6024 same about my wrx swapped 01 impreza wagon
That is awesome! Congrats on the purchase and I agree about it being a more comfortable daily. Thank you for the comment and for watching
Keep lying to yourself how sti is less confortable
Great video man. I think gas is subjective depending on your commute for work, especially with everyone teleworking. As an STI owner I will hands down admit the FA20 makes power super easy compared to an STI up til 400whp, after that though, both are gonna cost a pretty penny to get power out of and the WRX is limited fuel wise.
Yeah very true! Imo These generation subarus both operate best being under 400hp honestly. I agree with your comment. Thank you for watching!
What do you mean when you say, “limited fuel wise?” I’m about to get a VB
I've owned 2 FA20's to date, and I have to say the STI trans is a major aspect. I totally agree with most of what you say, but you can only build so far on the WRX trans.
Exactly I agree! The best build to me is the FA platform with the STI trans
One of the primary reasons i went with the STI. I think between that and better brakes, it justifies the price difference.
Nice! Thanks for watching and the comment. True, i paid off car like 18 months ago so pretty much been able to mod however I want. Thanks for comment
Thanks for message, I agree with a lot of what you said
Electric steering rack is more reliable for track duty and doesnt cause parisitic loss from the motor like power steering does.
I'm on a budget so I'm sticking with the WRX. My priority is getting a house in Florida. Besides, cars lose value over time.
That is awesome though! Congrats on going for the house and thank you for watching. A house is an amazing investment
I got my WRX #1 because it's been my dream car since the bug eye and I absolutely fell in love with the look of the 2015 WRX
#2 I wanted to avoid the headaches of the EJ series motor.. while still having a very capable autox and daily driver. The added suspension upgrades of the sti were irrelevant to me as I'm gonna mod the suspension anyhow (also my profile pic is my old autox/daily lol) and 30hp isn't worth an extra $10k to me
Congrats man and I agree with your points as well. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it. Thank you
You have done a great job modifying your WRX.
Yeah stock WRX drives really bad. Getting a tune gets that fixed much easier. The STI is an awesome platform
This is fun .... Especially mimicking the engine sounds .... Salute big man 💪
Thanks a lot man! Always fun with these cars and making car sounds
When i got my 06 STI i debated over both and an EVO MR. The EVO had super harsh suspension so it was out. The WRX transmission from that era was not so good and that was the decision maker.
True! The 06 Hawkeye is one of my favorite Subarus too especially the STI so that is really cool you got that
Great video, picked up a bugeye wrx and fell in love with the platform.
I feel you, I really wnjoy this car each day as well and enjoy the way it drives with how comfortable it is. Thanks for watching and commenting
How'd you get it to pull all the way to 6k, accesport and j pipe? My 2017 wrx was stock and that thing did not like to rev above 5k.
Absolutely agree! Love the ride of WRX as daily
hahah a few hundred in insurance!
@@ChristianHudnell I'm 27, I pay $8 more a month to insure my STI...
Andrew Becker that’s awesome but again. Where you live matters more about insurance then just age
I own a 2020 wrx and I love it.All the reasons you point out make so much sense!!I am not a big mod guy but i will probably do a couple of things to mine in the near future!!!I love the speed and the agility of mine!!Bought it and never looked back!!Thanks again for your insight 👍
Thanks for watching! i agree and congrats on the new 2020WRX! That is amazing. I appreciate you watching and commenting. I am glad my video helped
I owe 10k on my 2019 wrx do I really want to add another 15k to 20k to my debt 😐 Simply probably not worth trading up. I'll just build it for more power even then 300 whp is plenty fun.
Yeah the WRXs can make power much easier for sure and cheaper then an STI. These cars are fun to drive and mod
I am an STI owner in the UK so we don't even get the option of the WRX FA engine. Although I love my STI I would have definitely liked the option of the FA for most of the points you made.
Great looking car btw!
Thanks a lot for watching! The STI is awesome. I think the FA platform with a STI transmission is the best mix
That’s interesting that you guys get the STI and not the WRX . I have a 2019 WRX with an STI spoiler , I love it !
I love this so much haha. I was debating wether I should get a STI or WRX but why spend so much extra money on an STi. Thanks for this video. I love the car btw
Thanks for watching! They both are awesome cars and you will really enjoy them both for sure
Building an 08 WRX now and love it. It's super fun to drive.
That is awesome! Congrats and those are really fun cars to drive
Hey man, great video, I have a question for you. Did every Gen of WRX have a turbo in it ? or its only the STI model ?
Just traded in my WRX for an STI this past Monday. I learned a lot and I’m glad I got the WRX first. The STI really shows what I was missing in the WRX. Insurance for me changed by $5/month. I really like the NVH on the STI as I did upgrade some mounts and random drivetrain mods on the WRX to really feel more of the car. I can really tell the STI is a lot more powerful on the top end where as the WRX just falls on its face.
That is awesome man! Congrats on the new STI and thank you for the message. I truly appreciate it and thanks for the info.
That UEL sound is worth every penny
The UEL do sound really good
The EJ257 is not a strong engine (except for the latest revision which finally got upgraded internals), but same goes for the FA20DIT as it has some very weak internals.
Thats awesome and congrats on the car. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel
An STI trans alone is 6k not including labor! So technically you get everything else for free! But what do you know....2019+ STI’s stock ej25 handles 500whp all day!!! Do your research! STOCK STI Transmition handles 1000hp! That’s why STI!
I respect it! Nice
Yeah i love the UEL headers sound too! That sound is really unique and awesome. Thanks for always supporting and watching as much as you do
got a 2019 STI, keeping it stock except the muffler delete. I'd rather not dabble into ruining the car early. The car has only depreciated only 3k since having it for 2 years.
Yeah the STIs keep their value very well!
What about shifter and steering feel tho? WRX has that painfully mediocre light and spongy feeling cable shifter...
exactly agree with the sti my older brother has sti and i have a wrx he always say to me that we swap car cause his sti is really thirsty and begging for gas we even fill it full tank and drove same city and when i see his fuel indicator it really drinks alot of gas unlike my wrx i didnt even see that my gas was consumed.
Yeah The STIs use a lot of gas also because you gotta rev them higher in RPM to go for boost and use more power that way
It’s great to have more mod money for ur wrx till you add to much power and blow your trans. I bet you’d be wishing you had the sti 6-speed afterward
True but this car is my daily I drive for work. So gas matters to me. I do not need my daily getting as bad gas mileage as my corvette
I feel like the perfect situation is having the FA motor with the STI transmission. That is probably why the next gen STI is going that route
There is no sti gen anymore its over
If you are looking straight up for performance... Just buy an STi. If you go for the WRX you will just end up trying to make it an STI with 6speed DCCD gearbox, brakes, bigger TMIC and so on... And it still won't be an STI
Hmmmm I don't think so but I see what you saying. Biggest thing is the FA20 is more efficient then the EJ25 to me
This is the beset comparison video I’ve see on these! I’m looking to get the new 2022. What kind of engine/bolt on mods did you do to get more power out of it? Thanks!
Thanks for watching! I have a video talking about the mods and price of everything
Such a dope car. What is the name of the fender flares your using and what is your tire specs. And are you running spacers?
Thanks a lot! I have a recent video that will help you with fitment.
HT AUTO FENDER FLARES , 295 18 30, No spacers
100% agree on your points, especially that last one. Don't let all these little mods on a car that you don't plan to keep (or isn't your dream build) distract you from saving on the car you ultimately want.
Thanks a lot bro! The Corvette is the big car goal to build and have and that is what I am focused on. Love your car and videos man, keep it up!
Thanks for the comment and I agree with you. Thanks for watching :)
Test drove a wrx today. Never had a “fast car”. I’m obsessed. I am test driving an sti but is the rumble worth the stiffness and gas etc. we shall see who knows
No 6 speed. Your transmission go boom. And the "6 speeds" they started putting in the 2015 WRXs still won't handle power like the STI transmission.
True but I don't need a lot of power right now
Sucks the wrx still has a glass trans. So after paying for a sti 6 speed you’re left with barely enough money for bolt ons. Also if you’re looking for big hp the fa20 lacks a ton due to r&d
Yah I feel you and understand for sure
I’m 15 and Saving up for a car and I am interested in the Subarus but don’t know what I should get because I also want to mod it a bit
They both are awesome cars just go with which you like more and have the budget for as well
Are you sure about the insurance costs for the WRX and STI?
I think its more age-related than car-related. I have a 2017 WRX and I considered switching over to an STI a couple times. I was quoted by my insurance to be $20 less than my WRX surprisingly.
When you first got your WRX, you were younger, record wasn;t as long, may have moved to different area. etc. When you went to get STI you were older and not all variables were the same. also, cars have different rates based where you live, how where you live drivers are etc
Yeah then all you need to do is sti drivetrain and the brembo brakes. Which is another 5k plus.
I agree and I appreciate the comment! These cars are amazing and the STIs can be built up to be really good builds. Thanks for the comment

STIs depreciate much less than WRXs. If I am looking at this from a 100% ownership perspective, then I am also considering how much I can sell it for when I want to move on to the next thing.
True, both have pros and cons for sure. I like Subaru STIs and am actually wanting to upgrade
You can tell the difference between 2018+ wrx/sti by the fog lights 2015-2017 they are identical
Yeah the front bumper facia is different and how most can see difference. You are right
Are you still selling your wrx parts and how are you enjoying your STI? Is it worth upgrading. I'm stuck on deciding.
Hey! I will b making a video talking about this actually
That is awesome though man! That’s a big accomplishment congrats man. Keep it up
Awesome bro.. Can you tell me how much it costs for the mods.. Especially for the STI swing , rear and front spoilers for a base WRX
Hey brotha! I have a video where I show how much my mods are. You can check that one out
It’s all about how you are going to use the car.

Id get a built block to solve that problem mind me asking what year is your sti?
Plus the benefits of getting one can get you lots of power and it will last longer 💪
Smiles per gallon now miles per gallon...
I'll feed my wrx premium 91 octane all day... it keeps me smiling... its amazingly fun to drive.
@@ChristianHudnell Now lets see the sick wide body kit on your 2021 :D can't wait to see your car after its done!
Thank well said man been saying this for awhile, I want to make a video about this as well.
Thanks bro! You should man, I want to inspire and motivate others to make videos and all kinds too
I just got a sti and I would like to say he is false on the insurance I only pay 108 for full coverage and I'm only 22 but I dont get pulled over either.
It deoends on location, age, record, many factors.
What’s your opinion on the WRX transmission gears? I hear some refer to them as glass gears vs the STi ones are much more durable.. but otherwise I agree with this video general idea.
The newer 6 -speed 15+ WRX transmissions are much better then thee old 5-speed ones. They aren't as good as the STI but for thee power my car has it feels really good
I agree it makes a better a daily. It’s also the perfect family car. Smooth enough to travel with the wife and kids on road trips.
I agree, I don't have a family but a subie definitely is the perfect family car and this car is very spacey as well.
Hey how much do you think you spent on your build?
Really awesome video! Love all the clips and love the car!
Thanks a lot! Love this car a lot too and got a lot planned soon
Thanks for this video! I’ve been trying to decide between a WRX or STI 😊
You are welcome! Both are amazing cars. If you only going for one car and build I’d go STI :)
I have both. Get a STI. Check out the WRX Channel. He went from a WRX to a STI.
ua-cam.com/users/MyWRXChannel
SubZeru Vlogs Yeah it would be my only car and most likely would not do anything to it. You bring up valid points! Haha thank you for replying
Yeah! The main thing is both cars are awesome in their own ways and should be appreciated for each other in their own ways as well
Love what youve done to your wrx 😍 nice mods love the colour by the way how much would it cost to get that much power ive got an wrx club spec 2012 running 300hp after stage 1 but need that 400hp power man also did you have to swap out your trans?
Thanks for the compliments and comments! I still have the stock trans in the car and I actually made a video breakdown of my mods and pay. I am not fully sure how much it would cost you but there are so many builds they are out there on internet for sure. You have a 2.5L so a little different but congrats on car and thanks for the comment
Yes they look similar but except for that rumble.
Just by the intro I know damn well you go the extra mile when making a video, and it really shows👌keep it up bro
thanks a lot bro! I really try to make good videos and fun videos. I want others to enjoy the channel and put my effort into doing that. Appreciate the compliments and support
Most of us ain’t paying cash tho so u don’t see it as 10k right away you just see it as 150 a month or whatever the difference is.
Yeah that is true! Another way to see it for sure I feel you
The car I bought isn’t crazy, it’s a little older but has like No miles at all, I think I’m gonna try to push 400WHP out of it and stick to that until I decide what I might move to or go further. P.S. it’s a 2011 WRX
That is awesome congrats on the car! Thanks for watching I appreciate it a lot
Is a Wrx good for daily driving? My impreza is paid off and I was debating getting one since their now automatic transmission and I hate swapping clutch plates and flywheels.
The WRX I have had over 3 years now and have had very minimal issues with it. Drives amazing and I would recommend a manual for sure
@@ChristianHudnell what kind of gas mileage are you getting? I always have a K&N air filter to help with gas and I'm probably going to grt a cold air intake system to further help out.
I have a SF Big COBB Intake and I get close to 30 on freeway still
@@ChristianHudnell how much did it run you and what would you guesstimate was the install time?
Hmmm I did a lot of mods at one time so im not sure
Wrx owner here. Didn't realize I was driving an inferior car until I drove the sti. Anyone who says otherwise has not driven one or is lying to themselves.
The STI is a better car for sure but isn't always needed in everyday driving
Keep up the good videos. Intro was really cool!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it
What state are you in? I have a clean record and compared my STI to a base WRX and my insurance is way cheaper for an STI. It's like that with all insurance companies too in my state.
He's in California
I am in california, I have a good record but there is a difference between the STI and WRX, could be the area and zip im in, but just saying that and the other things add up for sure
Yeah thanks!!
But what about the S209 or the type RA. Both cars are ready and the money in my opinion is totally worth it. 👌
Those are awesome for sure but the s209 are really pricey and not many available right now
Bruh your videos are so good and informative, keep it up
Thanks a lot man! I want to do well in having fun and informative videos. Thank you for watching
Appreciate you watching thank you
SubZeru finally realized the facts and truth and upgraded his WRX to a STI :)
Hahahah big facts! Haha too funny
Then he ends up getting an sti reason why I didn’t consider it an option after the test drive
The STI has a close ratio 6 speed, unlike the WRX. Also, the SI drive center Diff is unique to the STI. The STI also has better brakes.
Save the 10 k for the vette. I like that thinking man.
Haha exactly! That 10k helped get mods for the Vette
Berry McCockiner awesome man! That is dope. I know you gonna enjoy it
Why would you want the glass transmission and FA motor ? You say save the money for mod money but then you’ll be blowing up your wrx before the sti so good thing you saved you’re money buying the wrx so you could have another engine ready, and don’t mention the car value going down where as the STI won’t be under 15k until MAYBE it’s 15-20 years old. The wrx is for cheapskates let’s just be honest
The FA platform is more reliable then the EJ that’s why even the new STI is going FA
It hurts but facts the wrx is just cheap people saying they same car like the STI but they are so far apart in performance it's crazy lol
For me, a car is nothing w/ out it’s sound. And imo the FA20 in the WRX sounds way worse than an STI 2.5, and it’s due to the exhaust header lengths. Just my opinion
This car in person actually has an amazing sound. I got headers on it so it makes it sound better. Not as good as an STI but definitely good
I actually got cheaper insurance when I upgraded from my 2018 wrx to a 2021 sti.
Yeah because older now, longer driving record, difference in area, etc
