This Hayabusa at that time had only 240 horsepower. And the man went on it the first time. He just did not have time to get used to the turbo bike from day one. Plus, the bike in standard lengths. GSXR 1000 K7 in the autumn Unlim 500 rode a mile in 25.665 (315 km\h) seconds. Now is the modernization of Hayabusa (400+ rhp). I hope the summer will be the new results. :)
***** You must not know much either... You are talking cars that have been modified more than Pamela Anderson's breast. From factory the GTR gets humiliated by motorcycles, and thats a fact. But hey, guess what.... The GTR is not alone, 99% of cars out there can't follow the new liter bikes. The GTR is an awsome car man, it is... But it can't hang with bikes..!! And bikes can be modified too you know, most of the guys out there forget that... Its not everybody who has the balls to drive on two wheels ;)
GTR fans say they can beat the bikes with a "tuned" GTR. Unless I see a nitro burning funny car (oh wait, that's American muscle) they aren't going to touch a modded bike. As someone who does BOTH, I can say that bikes cream cars in a straight line without a shadow of a doubt.
You act like this is some kind of breaking news, power to weight will always give a greater advantage. The engine alone in the GTR weighs more than all if not most bikes, but don't get it twisted bikes don't always win.
zifzone i like cars better than bikes but you cant really go faster than a bike, handles way better than a car in all ways and weighs a quarter as much
I raced many GTR's with my 9 years old ZX12R. Some with bolt-on's and nitrous. They never stood a chance! The only place they could have got me would have been past 300km/h. But we never got to there on public roads. Very fast car, but its not in the same league as bikes!
Apparently bikes have triple the coefficient of drag compared to a car but obviously like you said less surface area (about 3 times less say)so the total drag is about the same. They are about the same to begin with until speed increases, then as acceleration slows the bikes strong point (power/weight=acceleration) disappears. So as speed increases the once 1:1 drag ratio between the two gains a margin in favour of the car slightly but not much in the end it needs brute HP to overcome drag. :)
Why are all GT-R fanboys so butthurt? lol. I love cars, never been into bikes but you have accept it. Most of the top end motorbikes are faster than sport/super cars.
My guess is just removing the mirrors will let it run 200mph if you can get around the restrictor which is easy enough. Just needs a derestrictor which is a cheap transistor wired into the shift-indicator.
Well said. I like how you included the "de-restricted" because an "off the showroom floor" stock 1000 does 186, could it go faster, maybe a little bit but not much. I won't comment on the Hayabusa because I don't know, but considering the above "facts" claiming a "stunning 215" are coming from a guy that can't spell Hayabusa I'm going to take that claim as bs.
Car has 600HP and weight atleast 1500kg (I somewhere saw different gtr having ~1680) Bike - 200hp on what? 200kg? Making it 1hp:1kg? Car on other hand has 1hp on almoust every 3kg.
Probably because of wind condition(crosswinds, headwinds and tailwinds) affects drag race time.. and wind conditions varies at any outdoor place. Specially this high speed 1-mile long drag race. The faster the vehicle, the more it is affected by the wind.
@Fraternity187 You`re right, but a stock 200hp bike like a BMW S1000RR makes the 0-300 kph in 18sec - a LKM tuned Suzuki Hayabusa with 240hp 0-300 in 16sec. But here on Dragtimes we watch private owners racing - not semi professional or professional driver
The jixxer was wobbling and weaving a lot out of the gate. May have been a little closer if that hadn't happened. Plus the hayabusa had a serious advantage having one more stage of a Nitro/turbo kit.
If you look at description it states that it's been turbo'd! And as such 270 is actually an easy figure. Some of the serious all motor busa's put out considerably more than that. And a lot of charged busa's running around the 500bhp mark. I'd assume this one is running lower power due to the fact it's still a road bike.
CockatooDude A stock Busa feels scary already. I have a 2007 one and it scares the shit out of me everytime I accelarate too early when coming out of a corner. I'm guessing mine has some 190 bhp as I don't give her too much TLC after all the abuse she took all these years with tweaks, exhaust pipes and stuff to make her a little bit faster. A 500 bhp Busa will be something else.
GT-R fanboy here. I had absolutely no doubt that the bike would win. I love bikes, but i'm too scared to get one. Too many idiot car drivers on the road now a days, especially where i'm from...
Why do you think that? Did you see the engine revs? Do you think the driver took it easy? Why would he do that? Are you an R35 fan? Have you ridden a Superbike? Do you know how quick they are?
suzuki gsxr 0-270kmh in 27seconds? what the fuck? the bike should be easily able to do 0-300 in about 20 seconds the turbo busa must be able to do 300 in 15 seconds. It says here the it did 306kmh in 26 seconds. that is bullshit.
@CropDuster Dude, you can easily get any Busa up to 250bhp by spending less than $10k on the engine (the gearbox is man enough in stock form) and suspension mods of around $2k will suffice to cope with the extra power. The cost of getting a Gixxer thou to 200bhp is quite a bit less than that and no need to do anything to the suspension. Both bikes cost around $16k to buy in the first place. To get a a GTR to 1000 bhp you first off need $90k to buy the stock car and a similar amount for mods!
this is normal Nissan Gtr top speed 313.8 km/h Nissan states the GT-R can reach a top speed of 193 mph (311 km/h), Motor Trend recorded a top speed of 195.0 mph (313.8 km/h). So many different variables i know haha. My point was to try explain aerodynamics vs power/weight ratio aspects. Presuming both vehicles gearing wise were setup for the mile, since you'd be silly to turn up geared for a 1/4 ;).
more fun more often...given a 2L V6 with 20-25lbs of boost, intercooling, a decent ECU, aftermarket injectors & race fuel, should be quite possible. Not to mention with nitrous. What would that run for a used motor in decent shape and a 25psi turbo-kit with ECU and intercooler? Maybe $5k installed plus the cost of a swap assuming it doesn't come with the motor?
You could tell that was a busa on the first comp on the first lane so much power the front wants to lift and as for the GT-R the R-1000 made it look like a 50cc lawnmower !
The Busa is restricted to 185mph (300km/hr to be exact) stock, with a derestrictor and a gear-change why couldn't it hit 200mph with no other changes? You think it doesn't have enough power? You didn't know that it ran 190mph before it was restricted?
i second that 1, closes ive seen in texas( not texas mile) was in south texas near galveston guy hit 198 on a busa(gps verified) and it was done, didnt have anymore
I would love a hayabusa. As a child I was very studious and my ambition was to become a barrister (advocate) but I experienced a nervous breakdown aged 13, fell victim to a sleep disorder (from which I still suffer) and was neglected by my parents!
"Stage 2" against "Stage 2" is not "Equal". They both don't start off at the same level. In the 1/4 mile, Busa's run high 9's to low 10's stock while GTR's run low/mid 11's.
Yes, the busa is very much more heavy yet i have still not driven any busa myself but it don`t look like typical superbike. More like a sport tourer. Btw, i do thinking to sell my 600 and buy a 1000cc. suprbike but because i can`t buy any newer than 2006. What would you recomand? gsx-r1000,r1 or the cbr 1000rr? I don`t think only top speed but also handling :)
I'd like to see the vid of a 100 hp Suzuki Hayabusa, because in France we only can have a bike of 100 hp (a law forbids to have >100 hp, unfortunately). Is it very slow or just a little less fast ?
Turbo Busa will destroy the Alpha 12 on a wheelie my friend. Both from factory, or mod for mod. Bikes will always win. Its a fact. You need enormous amount of power, traction and overall mods from a car to keep up with bone stock bikes.
That is because I love GT-R :-) Yea, no wonder 4-wheel drive looks good when launch with its stronger traction than what 2-wheels make. Of course Busa and R-1000 start/run really nice. Busa someday, next to my old YAMAHA SR500.
@mcmanus1806 because they're not racing each other.... they are racing the clock.... dragtimes races are based on the faster et and highest MPH.... not who crosses the finish line first
Depends. The GT-R has a better time than *ANY* bike at Nurburgring and other curvy tracks. But yeah, for basic drag racing, bullet bikes beat everything except supercars.
Current bike (the one in my pic) is a Suzuki GSX550ES with around 70hp. 0-60mph(0-100km/h) in about 5secs and a topspeed of around 120mph(190km/h) which is enough for me, as long as I don't have track access. Tried my Uncle's ZX10r once, it was modded and had approx 180hp. That was just too much for me to have on the road. Impossible to not turn the handle just abit too much :D Dem fines would be rollin' in till I ended up dead :/
Looks like you're right. I was looking at the official competition motorcycle figures. But the R1 is still slower than a Porsche 911 turbo. Not to say the R1 is bad, motorcycles are just inherently inferior in cornering, but make up for it when compared to anything except the top mass production cars and super cars.
bikes are usually always faster off the mark ...bikes are quicker at accelerating than most cars at speed...eg a roll on at 100 mph...on my bike, in 6th gear i just leave them...thats a 200hp zx14r...its just physics...low weight, prob low drag and instant power from motors that have everything on them to rev up.............all the big bikes, from stock, do 9 or 10 sec quarter miles and about 150mph...point and go down the tunnel...totally stable
Cars vs Motorcycles, bikes are lighter, cars are heavier, cars get to higher speeds, motorcycles don't get as fast as SOME cars. They both have their bads and goods, I love bikes and cars!
You obviously know more than me mate, i was just trying to shed some light on the aerodynamics. I made your scale with a third though, even if it was on the heavy side of coefficient ;). Again though these arn't most cars i don't think haha.
"TM" (as u put) is not my final base indicator there have been a lot of attempts at longer straightaways. Removing mirrors to get 10mph at that speed? u might gain 5 at the max, seeing as ur best bet is to weigh no more than 140lbs soaking wet and have a good backwind. weighing in at 220lbs and no wind, derestricted, tiny mirrors (pig spotters), good rims and tires, w a long stretch would yield hitting 192 - 194mph. but really who cares how fast u get to a top speed is more important in my book
This Hayabusa at that time had only 240 horsepower. And the man went on it the first time. He just did not have time to get used to the turbo bike from day one. Plus, the bike in standard lengths.

"Stage 2" against "Stage 2" is not "Equal". They both don't start off at the same level. In the 1/4 mile, Busa's run high 9's to low 10's stock while GTR's run low/mid 11's.
Correction: It was a 1 mile drag race. If you reach top speed in that mile, good for you, but I'd hope to still be climbing MPH's.
Wrong data! GT-R had at may 2011 only 486HP - stock soft without launch control. It`s not EcuTek stage 2!
its sad to see a gtr out in the back, but welcome to the motorcycle world boys! ;)
im no expert but maybe the elevation over there is way higher? air pressure makes a pretty big difference
I'd like to see the vid of a 100 hp Suzuki Hayabusa, because in France we only can have a bike of 100 hp (a law forbids to have >100 hp, unfortunately). Is it very slow or just a little less fast ?
Imagine the feeling of 300km on a bike on an empty stretch of road
Turbo Busa will destroy the Alpha 12 on a wheelie my friend. Both from factory, or mod for mod. Bikes will always win. Its a fact. You need enormous amount of power, traction and overall mods from a car to keep up with bone stock bikes.
Bikes are cheaper to buy, run and insure than cars?
Why not use only stock vehicles?
the busa is a lovely bike and ive had a zx14 r and zx14 for 13 years
I have a 1000 GSXR and I did not knew it was that close to the Hayabusa in a mile race.
How about some stock machines?
That is because I love GT-R :-) Yea, no wonder 4-wheel drive looks good when launch with its stronger traction than what 2-wheels make. Of course Busa and R-1000 start/run really nice. Busa someday, next to my old YAMAHA SR500.
@mcmanus1806 because they're not racing each other.... they are racing the clock.... dragtimes races are based on the faster et and highest MPH.... not who crosses the finish line first
might just be me, but how long does this video take to load?!
Depends. The GT-R has a better time than *ANY* bike at Nurburgring and other curvy tracks. But yeah, for basic drag racing, bullet bikes beat everything except supercars.
thank you for sharing,i want to see 2012 kawasaki zzr1400 : )
i have the same problem here, a standard R1 cost around 28k
Not to say the R1 is bad, motorcycles are just inherently inferior in cornering, but make up for it when compared to anything except the top mass production cars and super cars.
bikes are usually always faster off the mark ...bikes are quicker at accelerating than most cars at speed...eg a roll on at 100 mph...on my bike, in 6th gear i just leave them...thats a 200hp zx14r...its just physics...low weight, prob low drag and instant power from motors that have everything on them to rev up.............all the big bikes, from stock, do 9 or 10 sec quarter miles and about 150mph...point and go down the tunnel...totally stable
that surface looks savage... that is all
Cars vs Motorcycles, bikes are lighter, cars are heavier, cars get to higher speeds, motorcycles don't get as fast as SOME cars. They both have their bads and goods, I love bikes and cars!
Let's not ignore the transmission and tire equations!
You obviously know more than me mate, i was just trying to shed some light on the aerodynamics. I made your scale with a third though, even if it was on the heavy side of coefficient ;). Again though these arn't most cars i don't think haha.
yes and no depends how u build them...if u look at there 1 mile times those are slow compared to the alpha series gtr's
if i have road a dirtbike, 250f, will i be able to ride a superbike? whats different? just honest noob question here, cant find a answer anywere.
why gsxr1000 on round1 only 269.94km/h?
"TM" (as u put) is not my final base indicator there have been a lot of attempts at longer straightaways. Removing mirrors to get 10mph at that speed? u might gain 5 at the max, seeing as ur best bet is to weigh no more than 140lbs soaking wet and have a good backwind. weighing in at 220lbs and no wind, derestricted, tiny mirrors (pig spotters), good rims and tires, w a long stretch would yield hitting 192 - 194mph. but really who cares how fast u get to a top speed is more important in my book
