This song was always sung by my eldest sister when I was a baby up to 9 months old (1958) until she went for her study at the university in Czechoslovakia. Her was voice so wonderful exactly like the above singer. I heard her singing again when she came back in 1963 to Indonesia … miss you, sister, Uni Anis (late).
I'm so proud of my dad(Gerrit Ellen) singing this song. I was there in the public when this was recorded. Still having the goosbumbs every time i hear it. It is such a special and beautiful song...
My dad is still singing in a choir (another one) and some times they sing this song again. Everytime the public is all ears. Love it!

Het is dinsdag 5 uur in de ochtend, ben net opgestaan, koffie gezet en ga mijn mailbox bekijken. Krijg een verwijzing naar een clipje van een hollandse dame die Nina Bobo zou zingen met het Twents mannenkoor. Inwendig moet ik glimlachen en de eerste gedachte die in me opkomt is "dat kan niet goed zijn...". Besluit toch om te luisteren terwijl ik de post doorneem.....maar dan hoor ik haar stem en leg mijn werk neer. Voordat ik het besef stromen de tranen over mijn wangen....wat zingt ze mooi, wat intens mooi. Dan zet die meneer in en later het koor....opeens zie ik mijn moeder weer die naast mijn ziekbed zit en mijn bezweet voorhoofd dept met een koele vochtige doek terwijl zij zachtjes "Nina Bobo" zingt. Zou het raam wel willen openen en heel Amsterdam willen wekken met een luide schreeuw "Mama waar ben je" ....God wat mis ik dat lieve moedige mens. Pa en Ma ik denk nog altijd aan jullie en hoop dat jullie nog ergens op ons wachten. Ik mis geen "Indie", het Indie met de azuurblauwe zee, het strand en de wuivende palmbomen op de platenhoes van George de Fretes....ik verlang naar de grapjes van mijn vader, naar de Maja-zeeplucht, de warmte en geborgenheid van mijn moeder die "Nina Bobo" naast mijn ziekbed zingt en neuriët terwijl ik rustig inslaap. Hollandse mevrouw en Twents mannenkoor ik moet me bij u verontschuldigen voor mijn arrogante houding. Daarentegen wil ik u bedanken, ik dank u uit de grond van mijn hart, u heeft me doen beseffen dat zingen geen kleur heeft, gevoel niet taal gebonden is en dat schoonheid niet tijdgebonden is. Ben blij met een ochtend als deze en koester het gelijk een schat.
Lieve broer ja ken het nu ik die klote ziekte heb en meteen 2 achter elkaar zou ik af en toe zoals vroeger in haar schoot willen kruipen en haar haren om me heen willen voelen. Doe dan mijn ogen dicht en voel haar armen om me heen. Word rustig dan en huil van verlangen naar haar.
This song has been sang to all children in Indonesia since ages ago, from Sabang (Aceh) to Merauke (Papua), every mothers in Indonesia (or Indonesian Mother abroad) will sing this song to their beloved one to calm them (child) when they cried or when they're sleepy. No one knows for sure who created the song, BUT one thing for sure that "Nina Bobo" is Indonesian folk song.
AND and I affirm to Malaysians, do not try to claim this song because the world knows this is OUR song, INDONESIAN song.
A simple old song, sing from the heart with love turns it into a beautiful song. Claudia Patacca and Gerrit Ellen did a great job! Bravo! Well I still sing this song to my grandson too.

This song is originally made by Indonesian woman. In the 18th century A Dutch sailor came to Java Island and then married Javanese woman. So it is this woman who created this song becasue her daughter couldn't sleep every night for some reason. Some stories said that from this song has spooky stories.

Dimasa kecil lagu ini begitu sering di dendangkan bunda yg lembut dan penuh kasih sayang. gk ngerti siapa yg ciptakan dan populerkan. ajaibnya si kecil yg didendangkan lagu nina bobo sambil ditepuk pantatnya pelan2 oleh bunda perlahan mata si kecil mulai terkatup aju suka rasa aneh aja. sebait syair sederhana tpi kyk ada magnitnya buat si kecil. kamar yg bersih. sprei bersih bantal yg empuk lampu tidur yg temaram ada mainan berupa boneka kecil yg diletakan dipinggir tempat tidurnya. punya tombol didadanya bila ditekan keluarlah lagu nina bobo. sampai menjelang dini hari. slamat tidur sayang.
