Like all your videos I really enjoyed this one, but I’ve tried the same disgorging tool shown as well as the ones by Stonfo and I’m still of the opinion that nothing beats a 9 inch long pair of artery forceps. Way back in the March 1989 edition of the now defunct “Sea Fishing” magazine I was lucky to have an article published on the safe unhooking of flatfish in which I demonstrated how easy it was. The method was the same by going in through the gill cover and pulling the snood back through after which you grasp the hook shank reverse the hook and push it out through the mouth. No need fiddling about with the fingers to reverse the hook. You get a really good grip of the hook with the forceps which I find makes unhooking that bit quicker and easier.
@@samsmith7866 I would imagine that the forceps method is just as good, same principle. The flatfish unhooking tool is another example of a tried and tested method with a modern take, I guess.
@@bassblanker5359 I was reminiscing with Andy about the kind of fishing we had there in the mid nineties. It wasn’t just a few good fish, it was a lot of whiting, eels picking them up and plenty of codling too. Jansen

Thanks Tom. Yes, I have used a slider in matches in the past, on this session although I did have one cast for a ray, we were pretty much targeting just the flatties.
Your videos are a life saver on those weekends when the back damage cant handle a 2 hour trip to the channel. Learnt so much from your generosity in sharing a life of fishing knowledge. Will be giving the bomber rig a go next trip. Just wondering is there a reason in the channel you aren't using watch weights etc to let bait travel a little and find the fish?
@@tristansemple2378 I’ve said many times that if these videos bring someone something useful, I’ll keep them going. You could certainly use watch leads at somewhere like Burnham, as long as you’re not casting too far.
Do you ever have any reactions to using ragworm ? sore fingers , like burning sensation been reading lots about it nd seems it very previlent in the farmed ragged , i wont use again as reaction to bad , thanks , i like your videos very educational
Jansen please can you do a session on brean beach and do the walk back method show the wider audience how it's done 3 hook long rig Properly emptying a 14000 reel nobody else has put it in a video I've seen thanks
How much better do you find tapered leaders compared to say a 70 pound leader to a 20 pound main line ? Does it really make that much difference ? I worry about that lighter starting leader on the rough ground
On a fixed spool it makes a lot of difference. If you use a standard leader and a bulky knot, line can catch on it as it leaves the spool, causing crack offs. The trick is to cut six to eight feet off the thin end of the tapered leader, so you’re actually tying it to something that’s around 30lb. Use a Spider Hitch and it’s very tough and strong.
@VealsMailOrder2898 the question for me is using these over rough ground here in south wales going to be worth the cost ? Even with a strong and small spider hitch it's a weak point that over the rough is possibly going to give ? Is the cost for a smoother cast with a smaller knot worth it ?
@@PaulFrancis-bj6vp If you’re getting on okay with regular leader, stick with it. For me I found that the knot caused issues when tying a standard leader.
Love your teaching style , very useful vid as im newish to beachcasting , thanks, subscribed .

Interesting fishing session - I learned a lot about fishing on mud flats and weights - thanks
Awesome video again mate 🎣 👍🏻
Good stuff mate
Glad you mentioned the loss of whiting, 30 years ago that beach fished incredibly well for whiting and codling, amazing fishing.

Thanks Tony, it’s a great venue isn’t it and as good as any of the reefs on its day. Just not this particular day.
Fantastic! I sure miss that stretch of beach, walked on it every morning.
PS. Come to Chicago if you want cold !😬
