I love this legendary band! The Runaways are usually credited for being the first successful all-girl rock band and their music rocks but Fanny came first and inspired everyone else
I was 13 when this was aired but somehow didn't hear about Fanny until just a few months ago. They had a great sound and I love listening to them now. I even subscribed to June Millington's UA-cam channel. Great band.
What a shame this band didn't make a bigger impact on the music world in the early 70's- they clearly had the talent. I didn't know that the Millington sisters reunited with Brie (Brandt) Howard- the original drummer, prior to Alice de Buhr- and released an album entitled "Fanny Walked the Earth" in 2018. I just found it on Apple Music and I'm going to give it a listen.
If you haven't done so already, I suggest you listen to their Beat Club sessions on YT. Maybe the tightest and most energetic rock performance I've ever seen. I had never heard of this band and I was in shock!
I love the ending of this live version, without the fadeout. Also wonderful to see a video where Fanny was allowed to play live and not forced to lip sync. Their live sound was unmatched. What a treat it is to see such a high quality video of this performance. To squares and misogynists of the 1970s, "Guess you guys weren't ready for that yet. But your (grand)kids are gonna love it."
My sister was probably a fan of Fanny, but I never really got into them. However, I can appreciate what they've opened for female rockers, and even though I was more into Hard Rock, I do agree they sound great.
I wonder if June’s guitar playing was influenced by Robbie Robertson, who I believe also sometimes played with a fingerpick on his middle finger in addition to the flatpick.
As an American band performing in the 1970s they probably didn't! Although doesn't it mean bum in the States? But anyhow they are a great band who possibly could have been bigger with a more commercial name
This is why Fanny weren't as successful as they could have been, because their record company made them do soppy crap like this when really they were brilliant rockers
There’s a video out there of them playing live 4 or 5 songs in an empty TV studio in Holland or Germany from around 1972 and they are crushing it! Really soulful and excellent musicianship. Heaps better than this session. Miles better than the studio stuff.
"made them do sloppy crap????" What do you mean, they wrote their own songs (in fact they WROTE THIS SONG). Please research FIRST and post SECOND. This will avoid much embarssment for you
@@GeeBee909 Perhaps YOU may want to re-read before commenting. The original poster said “soppy”, not “sloppy”. As in sentimental / weak, and not really rocking like they are capable of performing.
Your comment still does NOT erase the FACT that you called a song they wrote "soppy CRAP" (ok, we'll go with your word "soppy" it's still an insult, no matter how much you try and clean it up. Be honest, you didn't know THEY wrote the song, did you?
I grew up in this era and never heard of them until recently. They are so talented and should have been more successful.
Beautiful song!!!! Stunning women and musicians!!!!
Can't believe how lucky I was to see this fantastic band three times, why this wasn't a hit, they had a niche following in the UK Inc me.
I love this legendary band! The Runaways are usually credited for being the first successful all-girl rock band and their music rocks but Fanny came first and inspired everyone else
I always came first when fanny was involved. 😂
The Runaways were really more of a novelty act. Fanny members were considerably better musicians, albeit a little older.
True, and thank you! Alice
@@GCKelloch I chuckle as I think....."not by much!" Thanks, Alice
I hate that I didn’t know about them 40 years ago but I love that I know about them now. Every single one of them is a Master at their instrument!
Bring back the Hammond organ. 🎹
Amen. There was a time when a Hammond with a Leslie speaker was a fixture in rock music. I miss that sound. Its great that I can hear it on UA-cam.
I agree. It definitely added a lot to our sound, and Nickey was a magician on the keys - both Hammond and piano! Alice
@@alicedebuhr6457 Glad you're still kickin' along with the rest of us 70-somethings. Fanny deserved a lot better than you got.
@@leestamm3187 Thanks, Lee! Alice
live Grateful Dead is chock full of the Hammond organ
New Fanny fanatic.. every band member is a solid contributor and the band is bigger than the sum of its parts. Those ladies could play anything!
Fanny was ahead of its time for sure. I thought this song might really go somewhere, but the label never really got behind them.
Their live perfomances are just stunning. Bay far the best female rock band.
Thank you! Alice
This band should have been bigger. Pure talent.
Thank you! Alice
I'm a millennial and I find Alice really impressive on the drums and attractive 😍
This comes up on my feed ... As I'm watching a documentary on TV about "FANNY". .......
GO FIGURE ??????
Me too. How freaky
Welcome to The Truman Show. 😳😅
Don't lie. You were googling pics of "young girl's fannies" pervo.
Dios mio!!!!como suenan en directo!!!!!maravilloso

At least Bowie knew how great they really were especially live.
The more I hear from Fanny, the more I love them. Such great songs and impeccable live performances.

I was a tyke in their era but whoa! what a blast to hear them 50 yrs later
gOOD to see the most infamous awesome band in history, thank you , bring on more of there songs, they have many great ones.
Yes!!
They could rock!
Fanny was a phenomenal group!
There music is Awesome and groovy 😎👍🎥🌟❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹🏹🏹
I never knew they played more than one song during this show! AMAZING
Yup! Alice
Thank you so much for posting more Fanny!❤❤❤thank you so much ❤😊
You can never have enough fanny.
They played their own instruments and did it better than many other bands, make or female, of the day!
We practiced so much, it made us so tight live. I've always wished we'd released a live LP..... Alice
My sister was probably a fan of Fanny, but I never really got into them. However, I can appreciate what they've opened for female rockers, and even though I was more into Hard Rock, I do agree they sound great.
Found one of their albums at a record show earlier this year. Great rock and roll band!
FABULOUS!!!
FANNY ROCKS!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Magnificent voice!!!!
Love it!!!!
Absolutely fantastic.
FANNY is the greatest American female fronted rock and roll band ever. It's not even up for debate
They are not american they are from the phillipines
At least 2 members are from the Philippines. I don't know about the other 2. Maybe it's a 1/2 American band.
Your opinion. For me, Birtha is the name.
@@RolandElliottFirstG June and Jean are all American. Their heritage is Fillipino and American. Nickey and I are American as well.....Alice
I was actually referring to June and Jean, they were born in the Philippines, hence they are naturally born in that country not USA.@@alicedebuhr6457
Jiving sister Fanny. Ah Ah Aha!
I really wish they could have shaken the corporate crap that buried them, they were so much better than that!
Wow amazing
Holy cow! This is amazing.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again you just can’t beat a bit of Fanny.
Should have been as popular as Fleetwood Mac or Lou Reed. Incredible musicians and great stage presence.
I wonder what year that Burst is? A real beauty, already starting to fade a bit.
In 2023, do we really have to question why they aren’t as well-known as they should be?
Band name should of made them notoriously famous. 😂
@@Eleventhearlofmars The British use of the word “fanny” is a bit different from the States’ definition!

Quite the guitar she’s got there
I’m talking to a girl from Bolivia named Fanny and this comes on my recommended ❤️
Fanny was an awesome band. They should have gone big-league. Not sure why they didn't?
We couldn't figure it out either, and believe me, we tried! Alice
I like Fanny but Birtha, from the same era, is my favorite female band. Unfortunately, there are almost no video records of them.
Listening to this I also think of "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room"...
♥ ✌ 🦅
Whaaaat??? I supposed they knew that FANNY is British for vadge, right?
