The reason T21 is so cheap is because it's subsidized. When T21 was built the owners wanted to have cheap, traditional food in it's food court and it was a way of getting displaced street vendors back in business. It's a great place to eat but can get packed out at lunchtimes.
Now that's an amazing concept! Not only are you helping out street vendors but you are also preserving traditional food, but also offering a super unique and affordable experience that you just can't pass up! It's a win-win for everyone really. To be honest, when Mikey first showed that place off I was a bit skeptical and didn't think it could live up to his impressions. Also I thought that while it might be cheap I'd much rather support local vendors instead of a big business...But after learning more about I gotta say I'd definitely feel better about going there and would definitely visit it I was there. Plus knowing that it's actually street vendors making the food, it makes sense that it's as good as he said it was. (I'd still be mostly getting food from local street vendors though! There's just something special about it and something you really can't replicate.)
so crazy how mike stumbled upon this place by chance. he really found a gem because Terminal 21's food court is Thai locals mecca for cheap lunches with air conditioning
@Peter Thomson well some ppl might not know this place bc when foreigners research cheap places to eat in bangkok, usually night markets pop up on sites such as trip advisor. In the video usually thai natives were there eating.
I've been watching your videos for about as long as I can remember and it makes me so happy that you are still sharing with us!!!!! Thanks for all the fun and informational videos
Now this is my kinda Mike content! Even in your success, I love that you post budget advised content for us Travelers. It really is quality tips ive taken. Years watching you, still dont miss a post.
Exactly! I love how he covers all the bases, going from high end and spendy to budget items like this to appeal to everybody. One of the reasons Mike is my favorite UA-camr. I also find him more sincere and appealing than the likes of Mark Wiens.
We stayed at terminal 21 asok hotel on our last annual visit a few months ago. It’s very convenient. BTS, subway and food court are all there, just a steps away. There were days we came home late and went up to the food court for a quick coconut drink or ice cream. Super Rich money exchange outside terminal 21 gives the best rate but the line is super long. It’s worth the wait if you exchange a lot of money.
Welcome to Bangkok,I'm an American expat from S.Fl who has been living here for 5 years. I don't get to Bangkok much but I always go to Terminal 21 when I am there.
I agree this place is even cheaper than some street vendors. Noodles, pad Thai, mango sticky rice and oh I had the best strawberry smoothie here, all random stalls but turned out amazing!
The portion size is smaller than normal street eats. It often serves fewer premium cuts. Some dishes are not freshly cooked upon order. Eg. The Kang Kung (stir-fried Morning Glory in garlic and oyster sauce) was not freshly cooked on the spot and the portion size was really small. I find local street eateries and restaurants are a better experience and more value for money.
That food looked So Yum. I am So envious of anyone who is able to travel and experience wonderful food like you do. Thanks for sharing, you make me So hungry.
Mikey Chen ~ Makes a person who doesn't do spice want to!!! 😎 But what I really love is that he is a full-fledged meat, seafood and poultry eater. I am too, with a fresh veggie chaser!! 🌿
I watch you eating like I am already experiencing your food adventure or eating. Currently unable to eat those type of food again. Frustrating at times but I feel like while you are enjoying your food I can enjoy it with you.
I had the casino brisket the other day big strap of fat on it , wasn't my thing but I am sure you would liked it. Didn't lose a bag money but almost just a empty bag with the golden wonka chocolate bar. Lol actually 200g carbury bad with easter eggs in it. It was worth the sprint tripkick.
@@FoodCritic-t2y This would have to be a fairly well conceived fake account. Seriously though, you think you matter enough for Mike to directly reply to you? Hey Mike. I like Thai food & this just showed me why.. I just can't do really spicy food. Amazing food. The ice cream is definitely different there. But enjoy. Happy Thursday!! ❤️🐞
Visited before Covid. Glad to see the prices are still 'affordable' - haha. Other than the (relative) cheap prices, more trusting for the cleanliness of T21. You don't want to spend your vacay touring the porcelin gods 🙂
How do you clean out the intestinal tract of the freshly grilled River Prawn?? It was grilled with the head and shell intact. I would worry about that bitter aftertaste. And possible parasites.

When in Thailand, eating rice dishes with a SPOON helps get the rice, tender meat and sauce in your mouth for the perfect bite. It’s the Thai way…
Thailand has some of the best food around and it’s really affordable as well. Great video as always Mikey
Many Asian Countries are known for their night markets. But Thailand and Spice, too hot, but looks SO YUMMY!!
The second food court with the breakfast dish looked delicious! The pork looks super tender and the dish is so filling!

That first food court was so surprising...those prices!
We're doing something wrong in N.A. Wish we could eat this delicious food this cheap. Whopper Wednesday about the cheapest thing to get lol
that's not how it works... that's like looking at the US minimum wage and comparing it to thai minimum wage and saying everyone is rich in the US
Watching these videos really makes me wish I could move there.
Me2 or Vietnam or Japan. Seriously healthy, seriously tasty, affordable food.
I like it when Mike is at a place I’ve been too as well
My favorite food is Thai. I am in awe of how many places you found to eat food in this video! All of it amazing!

Happy to see u in Thailand again Mike!🎉
@8:40 "Guitar duck" the technique may be called spatchcock or in this case crispy spatchcock duck
I was wondering just what the heck was up with "Guitar Duck"--I thought it might be some novelty cafe or something. That looked divine!
Have you tried Mark Wiens's restaurant "Phed Mark" in Bangkok?
Hello Mike, you should try the Blue Elephant in Bangkok, one of the best representatives of Thai cuisine. I went there once and enjoyed it a lot.

Bubble tea without the pearls can't be called bubble tea. Pearls are a must.
Guitar Duck is the same as Pi Pa Duck, which is what you would order if you went to a chinese restaurant.
For Mikey to say he high high high recommends this place then I go with him!!!
Noodles are great! Cheap noodles are even better!
“falling apart “ while pulling it apart with the chop sticks 😏😐🫤
Terminal 21 is a huge shopping mall. Of course there’s going to be a huge food court

Do they have factories or farmland to provide all the duck and pork? Or is a lot of it imported, do you suppose.
I love seeing the photo bombers!!! LMFAO😂😂😂

Thailand is thee place for food. That Tilapia mmm MM. That's a lot of work with those shrimp. Bomb video Mikey.❤❤👍😋😋

I just look forward to watching it while having breakfast the next morning!
I'd like to see you review the Pullman buffet the next time you are in Bangkok.
Mos Burger in the basement is great. Also, Shake Shack opened last month inside the nearby Central World. Was in BKK last week. Will return soon.

Been having the brown soup since 2018 absolute quality pork. Suprised you didn't get the big plate lol. Looked like the bowl was about empty though.
