  • You have a business idea, and you think the Netherlands is the right place to execute it. If you run a business in the Netherlands, you will have to pay taxes. But when are you considered an entrepreneur for income or corporate tax, and when do you have to pay Value Added Tax (VAT or btw)? Dutch Tax and Customs Administration consultant Ian van Haaren explains. He also gives some pointers on tax allowances and deductions for small or starting entrepreneurs.
    Topics that will be discussed:
    ➝ Dutch taxes for businesses
    ➝ Tax allowances and deductions
    ➝ VAT system and rates*
    ➝ Tax benefits for entrepreneurs
As of 1 January 2019, the low VAT tariff is 9%. Does your business provide services or products within the low VAT tariff bracket? Here is how you can deal with the change: bit.ly/3tFCAly

Hi! How exactly should an entrepreneur keep track of/offer proof of the hours worked if they're a one-person business?

      Hi Oana,
You can do this any way you see fit, as long as you make sure it'll prove the hours worked when checked by the tax authority.
Our tip would be: get yourself an agenda and write down ALL hours worked, not just the billable ones.
      Hope this helps!

the question was about receipts, not invoices, so it went unanswered. I can see that the tax office person was highly stressed about being interviewed and his confusion is understandable, but it's a pity that the question went unanswered ultimately.
