- Old Town Topwater 120 PDL - Review *Is It Still Relevant??*
In this video we review & walkthrough the old town topwater 120 pdl. The topwater 120 pdl was one of the best kayaks on the market. The question is it still relevant? This old town topwater 120 pdl review explains why it still is one of the best kayak for the money? I personally think that it is one of the best fishing kayaks that is on the market currently. The topwater pdl is one of the stable kayaks that you would want to use out on the water. The Topwater 120 PDL is not the fastest kayak today but it will still get you from point A to Point B in a good time. Kayak fishing is something that I have been doing a lot of lately and I have got a lot of good use out of this kayak. Old Town kayak is a good built boat, and if you are in the market for a kayak, they make quality boats. Old town 120 pdl walkthrough is something that was done here, you learn a lot about the kayak in this video. We talk about storage, stability, comfort, fishing ability. I hope you guys learned something new about the kayak, or it helped you make decision to possibly get one. The Topwater pdl 120 is a kayak fishing for beginners that someone would never have to get another kayak.

You really helped me ultimately decide to get this yak as my 1st PDL. Thanks for such an eloquent real time consumer review. Really helpful. Fish on bro 🔥 😎 💪
Nice editing, like the video, Chris. Great Job!
Thanks Stephanie
Just bought a ProLine center console boat. In the process of getting equipment to start my own UA-cam channel. Thanks to you and Josh and a few others that I watch on here has got me excited. Wanting to start my own channel. Just want to thank you guys I appreciate it very much. You guys been having great video's. Keep up the good work 👍
Dude.. I can’t wait to watch them! I love making content, it’s really become a passion of mine.
Great review Chris. Looks like a solid choice
Super solid choice!
Thanks for good review. Soon to order mine. 👍
Thanks for watching my man
Love the video and how you gave a thorough breakdown of this kayak. I am looking for a pdl kayak and oldtown is one of my choice. Thanks once again 😁😁😁
Yes sir David, when do you plan on purchasing a kayak? I am reviewing another one soon
@@CaptChrisCanning hopefully this month. I'm stuck between the bid fish 108 and the old town 120 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Just looked that yak up, id HIGHLY recommend the old town. If you want something in that price point checkout the Salty PDL by old town. If u wait, I’ll be reviewing that one soon
@@CaptChrisCanning ok will do. Thanks.
I was looking to upgrade for a couple of years and studied many different brands and settled on the Old Town Topwater PDL 120. I can tell you that was an excellent choice! Funny thing is, just 3 weeks after my purchase, Old Town premiered the Sportsman model! Haha!
Now I want to upgrade to the autopilot. But, I'll have to wait a year or 2 to do so.
Thanks for the informative review!
Rick
Well I had a front mount on my yak and spent thousands doing upgrades. After one season I sold it because it was annoying to load and setup and charge. Guess who sold that and got a sportsman 120 pdl 😂? Just imagine loading a 200 pound yak and weeds. It’s a pain in the butt.
Hey Chris. Great video bro.. Noticed Josh and you have been doing alot of kayak fishing lately.. The upkeep is great with a kayak compared to a boat.. Each has their advantages, but less things to break in a kayak compared to a boat..lol. Seems something is always breaking with a boat.. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.. Always your friend, fan, and subscriber..
Thanks for watching Rickypoo. We love getting out on the kayaks that is a FACT@ A kayak is a lot cheaper on maintenance too
I have been looking for a good /kayak for south florida fishing. This Old town 120 PDL seems to fill in all the blanks for a good platform . Great Video and information by the way. I only wish the front storage had a large pull out tray instead of just giving you a hole to the hull. But for th price you have to look at what there giving you for the money. Im pretty sure after looking at many types of kayak with a pedal drive ill be buying this one. Thanks for the video !
Well done!
I borrowed a Predator PDL to fish the 2020 KBF National Championship and was throughly impressed on how it preformed. Now I am considering it as my next kayak.
Take a hard look at the AutoPilot brother. BUT The Predator/Bigwater is a great boat. I wish I had the chance to use one regularly
Old town makes some great yaks. It was between the pdl or my NuCanoe, but the pivot drive sold me on NuCanoe. It’s amazing how many great kayak manufacturers there are now.
Oh and those nucanoes are super stable, they make a great boat
I believe that third rod holder next to the seat on the left is just a docking Holder for when you catch a fish and bring it in do you have a place to put your ride when working on the hook because that’s pretty much all it’s good for is when you’re rigging your line LOL.
Good video man. I'm grabbing a used one for 1700$ next week. I'm up in WA but will be heading back to FL to the Tanpa area next April!
You’re going to love the boat! Hey that’s my home waters 👀
@@CaptChrisCanning I'm pumped for it. Hopefully going to catch some big King salmon in it in my last year up here!
Oh man that’s on my bucket list
I love this fishing kayak Pdl 120 . I just picked one up This Nov 2020 . This pedal version excercise your heart and legs. Don't get the motor version unless you 🤓Have leg issue s.
Pro: 12 feet long , stable , plenty of room on back . Can seat one more person on back maybe 120 lb to 130lb. Will let my dad design a seating chair for one extra person.
Durable plastic compared to a Hobbee .
Tracking mount .
Con: heavy but manageable .
$2200plus tax ! 😂
great review and your voice isn't annoying
Oh... I am glad you think that. First time someone has ever said that
That is a mighty fine yak, fish slaying machine.
It really is
That looks like a pretty high quality vessel. Definitely would be a good choice when buying. I was however distracted by the nicely rippled water surface behind you. Get out there and catch some fish man!
It's a very high quality vessel Gary! Man, we did go fishing after this was filmed
Cool kayak have jackson cruise 10 at 70 like to try pdl thanks
Thanks for the review. It looks like a gas. I don't have a kayak now, but this looks tempting.
Heck yeah it’s still relevant...that’s a sweet yak brother!!
It's an awesome yak! Do you do any yak fishing?
Chris Canning
I almost bought a yak last summer but I bought a jon boat instead and I regret it.
High School teacher salary sucks so we have to make those tough decisions 🤣
I sold the jon boat and I’m looking for the best deal on that Old Town TW 120 PDL right now. Trying to find a close out on last years model.
I’m up here in Pensacola it’s perfect for all the grass flats around here.
Great review Chris. What about passing through skinny water with the prop? I demoed a Riot with prop and Vibe Shearwater with the fins. The prop on the Riot was a pain when passing through the shallows. Did you have any issues with the Old Town prop hitting bottom?
Yes if you are in super super shallow water the drive will hit the bottom, but i never have a problem with it. I have had to lift the drive and paddle every once in a blue moon, and it's only to get over a very shallow spot. Being honest with you here, but it is nowhere near a deal breaker.
@@CaptChrisCanning cool. Thanks for the feedback.
Great review Chris 👍👍👍, as an angler my ideal yak is...... Autopilot 136 😁😁 and I think the top water 120 is perfect for Josh cause his a## is expending fast
😂😂🤣( hello Josh 👋👋), thanks guy ✌️✌️
That AutoPilot 120 is legit! I would love to own one myself 😎
@@CaptChrisCanning Inshore, offshore just one do all the task you need.
What are those two straps under the seat for?
Whats the difference between the topwater and the sportsman? they look identical
So when are you going to get the auto pilot kayak? They both are nice.
I really want one Chris! Maybe one day
Ordering an Old Town on their website is ok but the fact that a person has little chance to look at one in person around most of the country is a major hit.
Hey it may take a couple hours travel buy you should be able to find a dealer with at least some yaks in stock.
Is this the newest 2020 version (Old Town changing names has been confusing a bit). Have you been in other kayaks to compare stability? Specifically have you been in native kayaks to compare? How tall are you because you talk about your height and losing space on deck. What about weight of kayak? How was it to get up into trailer/vehicle? Thanks.
This is the 2019 model. All they did to the 2020 is make more trunk space and add better deck paddling. Stability on this kayak is the best, natives don’t even compare tbh. Loading and unloading is very simple on this kayak. Pretty easy by yourself. Go check out my salty PDL content 👍🏼
@@CaptChrisCanning so still happy with it I assume. Thanks.
Yes love my old towns! Thanks for watching
CHRIS, what's the difference between the Salty, and the top water 120? Thanks for the video
A few things my friend. They are a different design for different applications of fishing. Salty is FAST and light, Topwater is bigger.. more stable. Both a phenomenal boats
@@CaptChrisCanning sorry I asked the question too nearly! I watched a couple more of your videos presto answered. For bigger water, I get the impression the Salty would be a quality choice at least as much as topwater. Thank you again
No problem Dan! Thanks for watching brother
What’s the most affordable starting fishing kayak (freshwater/bass fishing)
I would do my best to get a peddle drive. They’re so worth it. The salty PDL is a great boat
Not sure if I should get the salty or the top water PDL..
Have you chose yet?
So what's the difference between the top water and the sportsman?
The sportsman they blew out the trunk and made it bigger
How tall are you Chris? I'm 5'3" do you think I'll be able to reach the peddles?
Actually yes, you should. I’m 5’8 on a good day hehe
😂
Where can you buy one of these? I can’t find one anywhere!
Old Towns website. Sportsman 120 PDL
Is this kayak good for saltwater/ offshore ??
Absolutely 💯
How y’all are you ?
What do think is better topwater vs salty?
Honeslty both brother. Depends on the fishing you do, but I would pick the Topwater/Sportsman if I had to do it over again.
@@CaptChrisCanning ok great thanks
My friend, that "deck space" you mention disappears really doesn't. It just goes under the seat when a short-legged person is using it. Even if the seat is all the way back, you wouldn't put anything that sticks up very far in front of you. Good review though. Thank you!
It’s a normal problem for ANY peddle drive kayak
@@CaptChrisCanning True!
It’s not their fault I’m short af 😂😂😂😂
How long did it take for that PDL drive to "loosen" up for you?
Honestly it is just a stiff drive but you end up loving it
Hello Chris how you doing man. That was a nice review of the 120. Are you thinking about upgrading my kayak to the pedal drive 120. I have a Question? I have big very very wide feet sz14 4 EEEE with very fat wide toe and now I'm wondering are those pedals wide enough for somebody who has a wide foot and is it comfortable enough to Pedal barefooted👣all day. They don't make a shoes wide enough for my foot so I have to kayak barefooted 👣. The kayak I have the foot brace are too small and my feet keep falling off of them because how wide they are. I am a big guy so I need some type of foot support while kayaking. I would go demo this kayak but there's no place where I live that demo kayak's. Take it easy man and have a good one and Happy Father's Day to you.
Would you get this kayak or the salty?
What type of fishing do you do? I have the salty too. Have you watched my videos on it?
Yes, I have seen your video on the salty. I fish near inlets, creeks, lakes....
How tall are you? I’m 5’9
So compared to the sportsman pdl?
I will be doing a side by side when I get my hands on a sportsman pdl
Chris Canning mine should arrive on June 15. Want to use it?
I totally might be interested in that.

How tall are you? Like when you say short how short you talking?
5’8 my friend
How tall are you ?
5’8
Bass pro
First..lol
Does it recommended for a person that is 5 feet 3? Haha
Absolutely
@@CaptChrisCanning so if I'm 5 foot 3 then I'm good to get the kayak? Sweet, want to get one but not sure if u have to be tall and long leg to use the PDL
You forgot to mention that this yak has the worst seat on the market. Seriously, i love my top water 106 but daaarn.. my back and my kidneys suffer when i go 6 or more hours. Im ordering the other seat that comes on the salty.
Are they interchangeable? I was curious.
i understand they are. they suppose to fit perfectly, but is 400. My back is worth the expense but darn, why can they just make a better seat for it from the beginning?
Never understood the gripe about a minimal amount of water being in the cockpit of a kayak. Now a crazy amount of water that didn't drain out, gripe away. But old towns drain really well.
If you don't want to get your tootsies getting wet while in a boat that's in water? Pick a new hobby.
Nice, but try buying one. Impossible.
That’s just right now. Covid has everything jacked up bro
They’re giving them out to all these guys on UA-cam but not to paying customers
Not true. Most youtuber have been waiting for their boat for months, just like a normal customer. I’ve been waiting for mine for 3 months now
Waiting and PAID waiting are different things
So you’re telling me all the work a youtuber puts in isn’t worth something???? Lmk the next time you go work for 8-16hrs for $10
