Ningen Isu (人間椅子, Japanese for "human chair") have been playing since 1987. The bassist and guitarist have known each other since school. The bassist is costumed as a ghostly monk, the guitarist as a Meiji era scholar and the drummer as a 70s/80s yakuza thug.
The band's name comes from a short story by Japanese author Edogawa Ranpo, and a lot of their songs take inspiration from literature, like Edgard A. Poe and H. P. Lovecraft.
They never reached great success in their long career (they released 22 albums) but they kept on going no matter what and finally started to be listened even outside Japan after this video became somewhat viral. They even did a European tour this year.
The "scat" in the song title is a musical term actually, scat is the practice of singing nonsense lyrics just for the musical effect, it mostly originates in the Jazz scene. Hence the "shabbadabbadia" parts.
Other songs from them that you should definitely check out are "The Color Out of Space" (宇宙からの色), "Namahage" (なまはげ), "Life for Sale" (命売ります) and "Apple's Tears" (りんごの涙). Most of their official videos have English subtitles too!

I would also add their live performance of 'At the Mountains of Madness' to the definitely check out list. It is rather long though, at over 11 minutes - but SOOO worth it!
The bassist is portraying a traditional Kabuki Theater character. Scat is actually a Japanese form of singing.

Hey they maybe AARP members but they rock better than many bands half their age!!! Together 33 years, they have lasted longer than some of my friends marriages (LOL)!! They worked early on and only recently have been successful enough to do this full time!!! Try them LIVE with Namahage (ua-cam.com/video/rUvKusi05MA/v-deo.html) and see just how good they really are. A lot of their stuff revolves around Lovecraft writings!! Hey anyone who plays the same guitar as Angus is rock solid in my book. Great reaction and this J/Metal/Rock rabbit hole is long and deep and you are now on your way down and even Alice can't pull you out!!!

I get your drift, but I think Ghost is more from the Blue Oyster Cult tree and this is more from the Black Sabbath tree. :) (In fact they've even said so.)

if you look up the lyrics you will realize the shabadabadia part is 100% pure genius....it's singing while singing....meta-singing to put on the fake happy face in confronting a life of adversity and failure in spite of great and honest efforts.
