given a big enough pile of fisheads and guts, a bear is going to smell it from miles away. They need to fatten up for hibernation, so they'll be drawn to such a bait, Make a narrow "v" of a brushpile, forcing the bear to put his head right where you want it. A dead-seasoned branch or tree of sufficient length, diamter and springiness can then be spring-tensioned and positioned in such a way as to drive a fire-hardened stake into the bear's brain or spine. If you've got a dozen such traps set for bears, wolves, deer, etc, you're going to score a big animal in a month or two. The treble hooks are going to catch some predators, wiring them to a 40 lb drag log. and your snares will catch some rabbits and squirrels, too. Springpoles and live-caught small birds or mice can be used to spread a small net over raptors, too.

So what can't they eat due to the red tide? I thought some of the small snails, etc. where not safe to consume?

they could have caught an average of 20 lbs of fish per day, if they'd known to take a gillnet and 2 person hammock, made out of 9 strand 750 paracord, accessed those inner strands, and woven 2500 sq ft of 3" mesh netting. it can be done in less than 2 weeks, while still doing all the other things you need to do, like juice the kelp, make the pontoon outrigger raft.

There were streams in areas that I assume were fresh water. Were there not fish in those streams other than when salmon was running?

the primitive-living types have their priorities messed up (for this challenge). FIRST, you have to be able to feed yourself, Primitive fire making shelter building, flintknaipping, etc, have nothing to do with this show and are a waste of time. You are given ways to make fire, shelter, and start with cutting tools, a metal cookpot. , etc. Focus on feeding yourself adequately and the rest will fall into line.

so there's an annotation in corner saying "Thursdays 9/8c" we seriously can't now be waiting 2-3months for last 4 episodes?
or is that just meaning the time of day it screens?

you dont have be afraid of bears if you know to take one of Chief Aj's slingbows and the E tool. A bear sniffing around will win the show for you, if you arrow it. So it's to be begged-for, not scared of! arrow it, drop the slingbow and draw your e tool, in case you have to split the bear's head. That 100+ lbs of fatty meat will feed you for a month, man. That's your fat source, the fish are your main source of protein and calories and the kelp juice is your carb source.
