We will be chuckling 10 years from now about how primitive these things were.
Chuckling with our R10s and agreeing together that it was a necessary first step
I could see some convergence of these features into a smart phone, but 10 years from now we definitely won't have standalone "ai" devices.

Great review, I'm sure Rabbit will fix some of the problems. $199 play toy is better than a nicely metal product costing $699.99 with a subscription attached.

yeah one of the big pros is that all the issues can just be improved upon over time, so it doesnt get outdated as AI improves

For the voice recording feature to work properly at the moment you have to say “Start a recording session”, I hope that helps!
Interesting, thanks for sharing! It worked fine twice with "start a voice recording," that's how I got the first one in there that I show.

Based upon the Star Trek mythology of tech devices, we will have three machines: the communicator, the tricorder, and the phaser. We already have the communicator (cell phone). Rabbit is the first incarnation of the tricorder, something that scans your environment. You can assume more analytical environment tools will be added, like temperature, ph levels, humidity, and so forth. The phaser will be coming soon.
I don't know. I feel, the smartphone can do all that, except for the gun phaser. All these AI tech should just be done on your smartphone.
Once the actual AI models is well refine, companies will just put it into your phone anyway. It seem more practical that way.
Unless, it's needs to be a specific separate device such as for medical or scientific use case, a smartphone will still be the best all-in-one device for most thing going forward, I feel. Lol.
@@WhyteLis21 Think in terms of scale. The tricorder is five times the size of the communicator, which implies its host of analytical tools requires more space. Haven't we reached the max convenient size for a smart phone already? The tricorder has a strap and requires two hands. Analyzing our environment autonomously is going to be a big thing.
@@octopuslair6877 👍Though I think, the analyzing our environment or specific tool sets will just be an add on. Much like a smartwatch and other similar current devices can. If these device are to become successful, that's probably how I see it. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.
I like that the r1 gives verbose answers. There will undoubtedly be info that I’ll appreciate.
If info is what you're wanting, it'll definitely provide!
You should also put the RayBan meta glasses into the mix. They also have an LLM

This was a great review! A lot of other reviews I've seen so far kind of glorifies the R1 by doing relatively simple things and cutting response time from the video which is very misleading (I've seen videos from rabbit themselves and they actually don't cut the response time, so they might get blamed because other people misrepresenting them).
Your review was very practical and showed all aspects of the device both good and bad, and I like how you indicated when you cut the response time. I am very interested in the device but i didn't like how other reviewers so far were not being completely transparent about the device, because even though it's very interesting, of course it not going to be perfect. Its early days of course, so I'm sure more and more reviews will be coming.
Anyway, this was a great review.

rabbit is scam, they promised ordering food and uber with many other trainings, but non has been delivered, they sold the device to raise cash, then work later. but when later arrives, google and apple would have it on the phone already.

A fair review. You may want to mention that if you want to use it remotely outside of your home WiFi and don’t have another SIM, you could presumably connect to your phone’s Wi-Fi through personal hotspot (though I’m curious if this works just as well as a separate, dedicated SIM would - I presume so?)

Great review. Thanks. Hopefully Rabbit can upgrade their infrastructure quickly to handle all of this new activity from its customers. It is no surprise that they are having growing pains right now. At least the hardware seems to provide a solid foundation to build upon.

Does the Rabbit R1 have an audio screen reader-like function for those who have visually impairements yet?
If so, how would anyone be able to access it?
Appreciate it! I don't see a VoiceOver function like that yet.
Imagine if you changed the lable on the drink to just white paper and wrote "Cold brew" and gives it the same text info, but to see if the R1 would tell you it's not the traditional label and avoid fakes or something.
This thing is so half-baked but I’m excited for when they actually get this to work, though maybe I should say if they get this to work
Yes, I'll be watching the updates closely if it actually gets improved.
People spent $200 for LAM and learning mode, and neither feature was realesed.

You have be subscribed to use the 5 things it shows on the rabbit os. And there is the fact that Jessie said this is a brand new device. here's the list Jessie demonstrated at his opening party. 🎉
1. No teach mode 🚫
2. No scan to text ocr. 🚫
3. It can not rewire a switch diagram using vision 🚫
4. And it does not know when its next update is. 🤔
Right it's a paper weight until they fix those promises.

How's the charging speed on this one? And how long does it last when fully charged? Does it heat up like mobile phones?
Doesn't heat up that I could tell, charging is between 1-2 hours though haven't done thorough testing. And it lasts way longer than the Ai Pin. If light use it'll get through a day for sure.

Nice fair review. I think you gave it a good shot and tried most the features are available now. I tend to agree, I’m excited about the direction they are going in and new updates, but it is almost at a beta stage at the moment. I know the team say in discord they’re addressing lots of bugs at the moment.
Definitely feels like a public beta, but I'll keep testing as updates come out!
This is very useful for senior citizen who is not tech savvy.. i hope this can improve more in the future.. the only worry for me os how long can this small company can last.. just like how we remember the company that produce the pebble watch..
Companies like these will either be successful enough to stay afloat or be bought out by bigger companies or they become past tech gadgets and stay there. Lol.
If it was more dependable, I would say senior citizens could really benefit. But right now it would be more frustrating with all the failures and wait times.

This man has the patience of a saint. The third time it would tell me an app is t available AND it takes a while to load on that joke of an OS that rabbit would end up in 10000 tiny orange shards.
Utter Crapwear. I’d choose a flagship phone from 7 years ago over this.
It was rough for sure, but had to do it for science!

I have ordered one when it was announced. I was really into Rabbit R1. After watching your review I have cancelled my order. I was ok with the fact that r1 doesn’t have all the functionality they advertised originally because they will hopefully get there according to their roadmap and it’s cheap but I was expected it’s current stage to be fully working and polished. All those failed attempts, errors just put me off.
It's unfortunate for sure. I'll be testing future updates as they come out, but it's not looking great.

I'm excited that this is the first real AI toy for tech heads to mess with and help it improve, become better and then ultimately, obsolete. We will have fond memories of these backward times! Pioneers are we!

how do you not think that this is a complete scam? The founders are crypto bros cashing in on the ai hype, and all of this will be completely worthless a few months from now when apple/google announce their own version that can actually be useful.

I stick to Copilot for now😅 I need it to answer questions or to help me with text (I'm dyslexic), and I don't see anything copilot can't do with a update.. hence the question why would I have to carry another device while my phone has everything already on board.

I like it just due to the fact it describes what it sees so blind people can get a great description this is very amazing the def can use it visuals a translation this device is like sensor like it can hear it can speak it can explain what it sees order this is life changing for blind and def people
Like other French-speakers, I’m struggling with the quote you tried to get translated. «Je veux que le montant ignore les noms que j’ai dit (tout) la nuit»? (“I want the amount to ignore the names I’ve said all night”?).
A human being would probably interact with you to get to what you meant.
Maybe it’s too much to ask from these devices. And it doesn’t tell us much about how it differs from using a phone. Still a fun test to do.

What's the day to day battery life like on the Rabbit R1?
If you use it lightly it'll get through a day for sure, way better than the Humane Ai Pin.

I had to throw a SIM card in mine in order to get the time to update as a work around. Tello is the cheapest option for this device if anyone doesn’t want to wait for the update. If you use your phone’s SIM card you will have to call your mobile provider after to have them re sync your phone to SIM card again.
Yeah Rabbit said an OTA update should be coming this week to fix it too.
It’s like the we are in a different Earth where the smartphone has yet to be invented and this is the best we get

It's a touchscreen...sometimes? That keyboard that showed up in the video I was able to use to enter my wifi password, but you can't tough other buttons on screen, like back or done.
@@beardfm entering ur passcode through the wheel seems difficult. Can it be done with touchscreen? Can touchscreen be used to scroll up n down in the mode where the keyboard shows up?
I order it not because it is cutting edge but because I like llm and Ai it's cheap for what it is. The first human pokedex 🔥👌
If you're looking for handheld LLM, def recommend this over the Pin for cost.

Yeah the touch screen is off because for my wifi password the keyboard was at the "bottom" in normal orientation and registered taps. So don't get when it's touch and when it's not.
I realize the target market for this are tech savvy hipsters, but this would actually be amazing for my elderly parents who can use an iPhone / iPad but never learned how to type properly so it’s always so slow for them to do anything with text input.
They do on occasion use voice to text, but it’s still a slog of of tapping a form box, tapping the mic button, recording a voice, checking if it is correct, deleting it and starting over it it’s wrong, etc. this takes forever - just watching them do this process makes me exhausted.
This would be great to get to the answer quickly and make GPTs accessible to them.
If it was more reliable I could certainly see that use case. But right now it's just not dependable, even for simple things like the voice recordings. Failed on me multiple times.
Can you show it a geometry math problem with diagrams and does it work out the solution??

You can find images you capture in the Rabbit Hole Journal and then download and save them
How do you capture an image? Every time it says it can't do that.
You won’t find the image on your R1, but if you set up an account in the Rabbit Hole, any images will be saved in your journal

It'll last through a day with light use, way better than the Humane Ai Pin.

There is absolutely nothing this device can do, or will be able to do, that could not have been done with a smartphone app. This thing is the OUYAI.

I’ve seen several “reviews” so far but nothing about the “teach” mode. Why is no one trying to teach it how to do things first? I’m crazy confused. The teach mode was the entire reason I bought it. Is that no longer a thing?
Teach mode isn't available yes, Rabbit says it's "in development" but may not even come this summer.

Siri was correct. It's not correct all the time, but I've found with plants isolated in a decent picture, it performs well.

@@wnllkmusic6842 It feels unnatural; Natural scrolling on macOS makes sense because when you drag your fingers up on the touchpad the page moves as if you were actually touching the screen, right?
I feel the wheel should behave the same: if you go from down to up with your thumb, shouldn't the page scroll as if you were moving the screen?
At 5:09 Stephen intuitively goes upwards on the wheel but it works the opposite way
I have my mouse set up like that on macOS, whereas the touchpad uses natural scrolling

Honestly, the Ai Pin, although much more expense, may be a more useful tool. It can be worn, still has a camera to describe what it sees, and with some software updates the battery life may get better too.

@@beardfm Sure. But your still comparing a voice device to a smartphone. I work with people who can't possibly use a smartphone but a device with a single button and a scroll wheel that can do vastly more than any other previous usable device is life changing. It's designed for a far broader user base than a smartphone and should be reviewed in its context. For millions a smartphone is a terribly designed device, don't matter what brand or how good it's 'Elder mode' might be. A single button and a scroll wheel.... I work in a State with 49% functionally illiterate adult population and the ever increasingly complex UI of smartphones is a barrier for them. AI voice devices are not.
So, legally, at what point do we say these things are a scam? It can't do the main things the CEO said it can do.
In Corporatocratic America, nothing. In Europe however, maybe if the damaged party wants to file at least a complaint.

The sloppy behavior of the early versions seems more convincing to me that I don't need to subscribe to the fantastic updates that are coming, even if I don't have to be comforted by the price.
