You look and sound like you are having a lot of fun, which is very nice! And I am looking forward to seeing some of these watches restored.
Oh, I am having fun, and I'm glad that comes across on the video. I think a couple of watches have been restored since posting this video, so please take a look at my UA-cam homepage to see what I have done lately. @WatchWithMike 😀
hamilton looks amazing and the before and after was outstanding
Thank you! I'm hoping to service that watch in the near future. 😁
My grandfather was the one who got me into Watches and he had to pull over. I still got it 😢
Roberto, it's nice when interest in watches spans multiple generations!
I really like your content Mike. Glycine has a rich history and invented the first travel watch, the Airman. For the other watch it looks like a bearing in the winding bridge is bad. Should be easy to replace.
@tods.9947- thanks for the words of encouragement! I'm glad to have you along on the channel. 😁
Completely agree with you - amazing content!
One little remark: Glycine is a Swiss Company from Bienne and not an American brand ;)
I made money doing this, after two years of Training! Its amazing what can be Skimned off the bottom! Glycine was swiss before being bought by invicta!
Anyone with formal training has my total respect. I never realized what a deep well of knowledge there is to watchmaking before I tried it for myself. Thanks for watching!
@@WatchWithMike keep going! you may find at some point that professional training is needed, that's what happened to me, I sold watches for a few years before I realized I needed real training ! By that time I was on the Board of the N.
A.W.C.C. so it was doable! good luck my friend!
@@davidcrandall4958 thank you David! UA-cam has unlocked a wealth of knowledge, that would only be possible by people with formal training sharing their techniques. It's my goal to encourage people to dip their toe in the water, and I hope to inspire others to pursue watchmaking either as a hobby or a career option. I'm glad you found my channel and I appreciate you joining the conversation!
@@WatchWithMike Thank You Mike!
Hi, Mike. I’m Mike. I’ve been collecting vintage watches for two years now. I found your channel by accident. Your channel is interesting. The Benrus you showed is from the Citation line. Citation was the high end of Benrus watches. That is what the tricolor symbol on the dial means. Belforte was the less expensive watch line for Benrus. The company history is very interesting. Wikipedia is a good place to start with the history of Benrus. I can’t wait to see it restored. Best regards.
Hi Mike, thanks for dropping by! I appreciate your information about the Benrus Citation line. The only info I had on the watch was that it was model DN2A. Your info is timely because I am currently editing that video, so I will include what you have discovered! 😁😁😁
Being a seiko hunter once cleaned the strap should be kept for a seiko 🧐
Ok, then I'm going to have to start looking for a Seiko for it!
Please do a deep dive into the timex indiglo light not working! I did fix the filler on my gas can from your video! I was startled to see you also do watches. Who knew.
Hi Joan! Yes, watchmaking is my new passion. I'm afraid that troubleshooting an Indiglo dial might not be a very deep dive. It's either the contact in the pusher switch, or the Indiglo light panel has simply dimmed because of age. Virtually all of my vintage Timex watches with Indiglo have faded over the years. But I welcome the suggestion for Video topics… Let me give this one some thought, OK?
Hi Mike. Im from Philadelphia as well and just starting out with getting tools together. I was watching shoots down watches and seen you two together and thought id subscribe and say hello. Have a great day
@monte4150 - Hi neighbor! I'm glad to have you along for the ride. I appreciate you subbing and reaching out!
The Caravelle is really impressive to still be so accurate despite not being serviced for a while, presumably. Maybe this brand is under appreciated. Also like the Benrus. Thanks for the video.
I agree with your choices and comments! The Caravelle is a welcome surprise because it is working so well without a servicing. I can't wait to pop the back off of the Benrus watch and see what's inside… So many distractions! So many opportunities! I don't know what to do first! 😄
collect garbaga abrgains, but,, if you fix thjem you end up with expensive garbage..
@@kurkkobain one man's trash is another man's treasure! 😁
Its easier just to call it the Indiana Jones snake watch!🐍😂 Nice little Hamilton! The Thorensen watch looks really good! A little bit of effort and time and you got some really neat watches! Have a great day Mike!
Thanks Johan! I like the Indiana Jones branding. Much more macho! Yeah, I'm pretty excited about spending some time with these watches. Hope you're having a great day too! 😁
@@WatchWithMike I am thank you! Yes they are quite cool!
Yep Mike, I now know Citizen owns Bulova when I contacted them when my new mechanical Bulova stopped after 5 yrs of owning. I think when Citizen bought them, the quality dropped. My dads Bulova from 1950 still ran when I was getting this one serviced.
Hi Robert, so you had to learn through necessity! I'm not surprised that the quality has dropped recently... Many traditionally 'good' manufacturers are trying to hit the low-cost/high-volume market. It's really increasing my appreciation (and the value of) the vintage watches I'm working on!
Love the video. Thanks! Are you using two mics to capture your audio?
I am, though they both don't always make it into the mix. I have an overhead condenser mic as my primary voice mic, and a shotgun at desk level to pick up tool sounds. Do you think it works? I sometimes wonder if it's necessary. 😁
Well I ask, because they sound out of phase slightly.
@@jonboy8181 Ah! Thanks for that feedback. What I think you're hearing in this case is that, when I was recording this video I had a noise in the background, and I applied some heavy duty noise reduction filters. They can make something sound out of phase, and in fact I think that's how they reduce the noise. I continue to try to refine both the quality of the original recording, and the amount that I am filtering. It's difficult because my studio is in a basement and is susceptible to noise from HVAC, various computer fans and on occasion the laundry running in the other room! I always appreciate critical viewing and constructive comments, so I can continue to improve! 😁
Isn’t Croton a rebrand of Nivada Grenchen but for the American market??
Ooo, I don't know. I'll have to look that up!
No time to watch Mike. On vacation in SD.
Glad you checked in, Tom. Enjoy your vacation and I'll catch you on the flip side! 😄
Hey Mike, nice video! I like your research on the Snake watch designer! Now you just have to find a picture of the celeb that used to wear it! PS, I don't know what PPS stands for. PPS... hey, wait a minute ! 😂😂😂
It would be awesome if I could find a picture of someone notable actually wearing the snake watch! As far as the PPS imprint on that Citizen, I'm not sure what you are implying but I can't find ANYTHING even remotely close in Google for those initials, naughty or nice! 😈
Duh, I just got it. Post postscript. 🙈
Kenneth Lane went to Central High school in Detroit Michigan
He is known as "The king of fakes"
Hi David, I remember you saying your mom illustrated the yearbook with him. 😁
It’s a date movement- not day
Yes! 😊
I wanna be like Mike 👍
lol, that made my day! 😁
My mom illustrated the Detroit central high yearbook 😮With Kenny ! I remember when croton was owned by David Mermelstein and sold on shop NBC!
Hi David, wow, those are some interesting bits of information! Since I am new to the hobby, I learn something new every day. I love hearing these stories!
Watch COLLECTING is A Hobby While WATCHMAKING And REPAIRINGIs a profession . Proffession
you dont work in timezes,, you change their movements if you want,,
Thanks!
3 dollar voor die seiko polsbandje? 😂😂 hoe kan dat?
I haven't found a watch to put it on yet…
Pronounced - crow-tin
Thanks John! Always learning… Funny side story, last week I sent an email to Longines support to see how they pronounce their name, I.E.is the S on the end silent or said? (I haven't heard back.) Want to make a guess? 😁
@@WatchWithMike
I’ve heard it pronounced with the S and also no S
@@johngentile6814 cool. I like to say it without the S. 😂
Knowing the hands on a watch are the most fragile components next to the balance wheel, watching you flip that movement like a coin was cringe.
@ehrenkrause9861 - yeah, that was more of a fumble than a purposeful flip! I need to be more careful. 😎
You pays your money and takes your choice in ‘watch heaven’, liked the first two watches, not keen on that band on watch number two, the others were plain and boring, as the market was flooded with those big bulky ‘ugly’ watches.
Lots of variety! 😁 I appreciate you watching.
What did you do for a living?Seriously?
Hi David, professionally I am a photographer, videographer, artist and web developer. I also have another UA-cam channel where I do auto, home and technology product reviews. @mikefyxdt
Please get professional Training! Watch collecting is a Hobby while watchmaking and repairing is a Proffession which requires years of study And certification? Watchmaking requires much much more!
David, check out my latest video and let me know how you think I'm doing! ua-cam.com/video/N3RZiy5bonI/v-deo.htmlsi=0rLTLbFsCB44JWnr
will do Mike, however if you are not certified or licensed you are not a professional watch repairer and most definitely not a Watch MAKER. but have fun until you decide to get serious.
@@davidcrandall4958 David, just curious… Are you a watchmaker?
@@WatchWithMike I was a proffessional certified Watch repairer. watchhmaking takes A lifetime And you need to start very young!
@@davidcrandall4958 Not sure the difference between watch repair certification and watchmaker, but I respect anyone that has put in the time training! I'm having fun at my own pace and learning from doing and making videos. Here's to us both being the best we can! 😀
