Never have I been so excited to watch a Nifty video!!! Thank you for creating this. Did not need to watch this as my family has several parols already up at our house, but felt inclined to as I've never seen any internet content created towards filipino customs during Christmas.
I'm someone from Pampanga, Philippines and I can, indeed, confirm that during Christmas season, you'll definitely see a lot of parol vendors along the road bringing life and colorful wonder to the place especially during the night. :) Not only that but the street lights are also decorated with parols! The reason behind this is that Pampanga is considered as the Giant Lantern of the Philippines (aside from being the Culinary Capital as well). So yep. We take our parol *very seriously*. :)
Thank you for the tutorial! I came here after watching (and crying to) Disney UK’s Filipino-themed Christmas advert 😅 I’ve never made a parol before, as I grew up in the States and my parents were never very crafty 😂 I hope chopsticks are a suitable alternative to bamboo ‘cause I have plenty hehe
Thank you for sharing this video. I have always admired the parol even though growing up in the U.S. the Christmas tree was always the symbol of the Advent Season. Now, I can do both for this year with the help of your video. Maligayang Pasko sa inyo!
I had JUST asked my mom again to bring me a parol from home for Christmas but it was too expensive and too fragile to risk bringing home. I’ve been asking for one for years and now... this! Thanks!
To those Filipinos who say they're full Filipino and havent heard of a parol, that may be because you grew up in a different country. In the Philippines you'll see those colorful stars hanging on almost every house around Christmas time. But if you're from the states like myself you'll barely see them here because parols here are sooo expensive, ranging from $150 to $300 and making them is time consuming. We just use the regular lights and christmas decorations that are sold in walmart for so much less.
Hmmmm unless they live somewhere where there aren't that many pinoys. But I'm a quarter pinoy and I knew about these since I was a kid. I've seen this on people's windows especially the ones with lights. That's how I know they're Pinoys. They sell these in filipinon stores!
My favorite part of making the parol after putting the cellophane, drizzle some water over it then use a blow dryer to shrink the cellophane to give it a stretched look.
Lantern culture is scattered throughout Asia, in the Philippines it is connected to Catholism just because of Spanish Colonization, but Lanterns in the Philippines existed in Pre-Colonial era.
Cant find them in any store(in my area at least) so i order mine from amazon, so far they only have 15.5" long..gonna start making parol project with my kiddo maybe my Filipino neighbor will recognize that im Filipino 😂😂
I hope someone can help me. I live in the US and I was wondering where I can purchase the materials. I would really like to start this making parol tradition for this year. Thank you in advance.
in elementary school we were assigned to make one of these and attaching cellophane to the frame was frustrating af so my dad just got someone to do it for me

You can't have lived in the Philippines and not know about these. Even foreigners who stay in the country over the holidays have seen these.
