Simone, i hope you see this comment. I was really touched by watching this episode. I can, on so many levels relate. Denyque spoke about so many things that personally “got me in tears”. Growing up, I really didn’t receive that “love” from my parents. Daddy lived abroad and mommy died when i was 14 (just when i began to understood myself). I didn’t know or understood what self love was for my teenage
years, l had a lot of self doubt, had a little self esteem and my confidence was in shambles. I was angry most times and was mad at the world. It got even worst when i started to get mistreated by family and loved ones. I consider myself “scarred” by my past but i still try to push forward.
Becoming pregnant with my daughter helped me to start loving myself. After having her, i loved myself even more and because of that, i learned to love my daughter with all my heart. She is my gift from god. Having her gave me purpose and drive.
It is important that parents play a vital role in their children’s life….this role i believe can build that child’s self esteem, confidence, self love and all the good things. I make sure to try and give my daughter all of what was missing when i was growing up and even more.
I am far from perfect but i have come a far way from where i was. I thank god for not giving up on me.

I believe love is more than just a feeling, what we think love is, it is not. Love takes a lot of work, love is knowing how to take care of someone even when they have wronged you. Love is supposed to overcome hate, fear and all obstacles. Having a child can teach you what real love is. They do wrong, you can't hate them. It is not just the feeling.

Prior to getting married I never really felt this heartbreak in which they speak about. God is love. You build your house on God. From there the respect and trust flows. This is foundation. When God gives you a person, you fight for that relationship through prayer first.....then through your communication and compromise. Love is real. It is more than a feeling. The decision to love includes feelings......when the feelings change......the decision stands. Best Foundation for a relationship is being in love with God first and being in a relationship with Him. Remember its too broken person coming together no Mr. Or Ms. Right. I pray for you both. What is impossible with man is very possible with God.

Great episode. I want to share my comment on two points- one where Diel said love is nothing and then circled to say we all just want love.
I've heard it over and over that love isn't enough and truthfully I started to believe it. But the truth is... How we feel isn't enough. Like the wind our feeling will come and go. But, love, love itself is stable. A parent doesn't always like the way his/her child behaves but it doesnt stop their love for the child.
Love is backed by actions but when we refer to love we're talking about how we feel. So, sometimes how we feel is how we love. I can only share from my experience because like I said I genuinely started to believe that love wasn't enough and I had to ask God to let me see what love is. Love is enough- we all need to learn how to really love.
The points about respect, trust and connection are valid. I also believe those are rooted in love.

This was such a wonderful episode as it not only highlighted these personal experiences, but societal issues and social influence. Most Jamaican boys are taught to suppress their emotions, which inadvertently creates long term and short term issues in different types of relationships. “Don’t cry, be a man.” However, your body needs to process thee options as you’re a human being, and preventing that process, is damaging. Thanks Sim!

Most times, we just cannot settle so I agree. If things are great, and people are on the same page we will stay together. But, what our generation will not do is settle for abuse and lack of respect.
I have been married for 3 years and we have been together for 10, and we are good as there is respect, love and consistency.
Looking at the past generation, why would a grandmother stay with a man and have 10 kids with a drunk who beats her? That was very prevalent yet death had to do them apart. It's also because women back them stayed home and had vision on how to get out. We are working women who desire happiness. We love ourselves and know what we want.
