Galtar Explored - This Hanna Barbera’s Double-Bladed He-Man Is An Underrated Sci-fi Fantasy Cartoon

- Imagine a show like He-Man, except this one, also contains a princess, her mind-controlling brother, and most importantly, a lance-wielding protagonist! This is precisely what Galtar and the Golden Lance is about. While the setting of the show is somewhat quirky, this is a forgotten but priceless sword-and-sorcery animated classic from the 80s that makes for a very entertaining watch. Released by Syndicated and produced by Hanna Barbera productions, this show ran from 1985 to 1986 as a part of ‘The Futuristic World of Hanna Barbera’ for a total length of twenty-one episodes. The show follows the three main characters’ quest to defeat Tormack, a tyrannical villain who is attempting to take over the world.
GALTAR felt like it took place 3000 years after THUNDAAR. The hero is of the family line of Thundaar. The lance is from the same creators of the SUN SWORD.

why not 2100 years he would be the grandson of Thundarr! They also look alike in genetics and wardrobe so yeah they belong to the same tribe!
@Ralph felix: Well Ooklah the Mok's Steed and Galtars Steed look Eirely similar, the same species most likely, and there both Hanna Barbera shows so of course there connected, now how do we bring the Herculoids Into the mix .
Goltar and the Golden Lance was one of the most coolest 😎action/adventure cartoon series that I've ever watched as a child growing up in the nineteen eighties. It's just so terribly sad 😥that the cartoon ended without Goltar and his companions Princess Goleta & her brother Zorn getting so much as a final winner 🏆takes all battle against their enemy Tormak and his forces of evil 😈!

My Favorite show from the Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera on Sunday Mornings in the mid-80s. I was crushed when the show was canceled before the storyline concluded. Brock Peters' voice acting portrayal of Tormak was unforgettably scary & intimidating. When The Pirates Of Dark Water debuted a few years later, I immediately recognized him as the voice of the Pirate Lord Bloth. RIP.
Crazy how these 80s cartoons were just Awesome. Watched this show too back then and enjoyed it. Kids today would be shocked at shows like this compared to what is made now,

It helped with my influence of drawing and writing my own comics.
I also love the wheel warriors, Brave Starr, Thunder Cats.
Sword and wizard cartoons are a great match up for sci-fi and Fantasy stories.

Nothing needs a reboot, specially nowadays where they turn characters into garbage for weirdos.
Here's the thing about reboots. If we get one then the original will naturally be more readily available like blu ray and digital copies. Look at The Punisher as an example. First one came out in 1989, first blu ray only came out in 2007 three years after the first reboot and again in 2013 for popularity of Marvel movies and shows. Otherwise it gets harder and harder find them legit. Perfect example of that is Dr Syn Scarecrow by Disney.
I remember watching Galtar and The Golden Lance when I was a kid it's excellent and it should never been canceled in the first place. 😀👍

I saw this cartoon in reruns on either those boomerang preview that was shown on Cartoon Network on Saturday mournings or it was shown on those previews of Cartoon Network That were shown on tbs cable channel in the mid nighties, the nineteen nighties🤔.

its funny. i was a little too young to see all of the episodes when it came out. however later on when I did I was able to see a lot of ideas they were able to take from this and put into the pirates of dark water. another great show by HB

Thanks, I forgot about this guy, but deep inside i knew a guy who can combined his sword and ride horses exist. Everytime I saw old footage off heman, i always vaguely remember galtar and thundarr but i never manage to fully remember their names until i saw this video.

With a very good writer possessing bright ideas, It would be really cool if Thundarr and Galtar fought side by side in the comic books! I wish. Skybound would buy Thundarr and Galtar. I believe. They have a lot of potential in combat, strength, intelligence, and durability against bodily harm!

Galtar And The Golden Lance deserved some comeback by the following:
Crossover into fighting games like Soul Calibur, Guilty Gear, BlazBlue.
Crossover with Master Of The Universe, Thundercats, Thundarr The Barbarian, Blackstar in comics, video games (Fighting, Turn Based RPG like X-com , Action RPG like Diablo, Strategy like Warcraft) and animation.
Potential live action movie adaption (from director Peter Jackson, Taika Waititi, Gore Verbinski, Duncan Jones).
Most importantly, need a proper ending with final confrontation.
"Mom, can I have He-Man?"
"No, we have He-Man at home"

"Mom, we're out of Thundarr"

I loved this show as a kid. I always wondered how it ended. I guess it never did. But I vaguely remember Golita obtaining the shield eventually.

Both Galtar and Thundarr were aired in the Philippines. Between the 2, i preffered Galtar.
It's two sword handles joined by the pommel, nothing to do with a lance.
