RIGHT?! I feel like most people have heard the names of those medications at some point in life .... just through passing, the news etc. She was like completely clueless ..... when the doctor said benzodiazepine she was being so rude. I work in the health care field, but even before that I had heard this terminology. How do you get to her age and have no clue what a single one of those meds were for? Maybe not all of them, but some of them you hear about regularly in the news. Sure she might be asking for the listeners but don't be a Karen to the people helping and using accurate medical terms.

Her husband told his best friend he thought his wife was addicted to Benzos and the doctor cut her off. She withdrew. He said this happened about 2 months before she hurt the kid's. She was on 3 meds and was being weaned off. She complained about her son on Facebook. She I believe planned this. Why couldn't she have left and gave the kid's to the dad. She had so much support as well. Read the police report.

I had a friend who, after having her babies, said “I just have this overwhelming desire to smother them” then got off the phone with me. I drove an hour at 1:00 am to wake up her husband to tell him what she said. They called her psych and she was not left alone with the girls and got help. Postpartum is NO JOKE. And unless a mom tells someone about these disturbing thoughts, people will have no clue nor warning just like in this case. RIP babies. Heartbreaking 💔

I am bipolar, obsessive compulsive, epileptic, phobic, and a whole book of other lovely things, all at the same time. I have some of the meds mentioned here. My husband is totally clueless also, as to what I have been prescribed. Every single day though, I communicate and talk about my condition, so that my husband knows how I am health wise at any time. It is not incumbent upon him to try to read my mind. This man was going with what he was told. We see that in photos of her, this lady is smiling happily. She obviously hid a lot from everyone. Her husband shouldn't be maligned because he believed whatever she told him. He is a struggling husband and father. To put blame on him is grossly unfair.

Nancy FYI why don’t you listen to your guests because you are not an expert in everything. Again I am a 30 year OB/GYN RN and I can tell you it is very difficult to take care of these patients because many times they minimize their symptoms/thoughts. Even if they do tell you they’re having thoughts of harm your only option is to hospitalize them, separate them from their children, which absolutely needs to be done, but it is tragic and difficult for all involved. I love your show and I love you, but you have to realize as a prosecutor you’re playing 20/20 hindsight game, the rest of us have to take care of people in real time.

I almost jumped out my 2nd story window when taking a sample of a “new medication” (antidepressant) in the 1980’s for 3 days. I stopped myself, called my doctor and he said “Oh I meant to call you - that’s been taken off the market”.
WHAT THE HELL?? There are too many doctors prescribing strong drugs like this and the media hyped up the “opioid epidemic “. Ha. I’m sure that most of people’s mood disorders are caused by bad meds and careless greedy doctors and drug companies.

Husband or not, you risk the govt rushing in to take your kids. All this may have been running through her mind yet she STILL checked herself into a hospital hoping to get help for ALL OF IT. And as a brand new mom, so much of it was hormonal which can do horrible things as it is to your mental psyche. Look, I have 35 year old son that was diagnosed with child-onset schizophrenia at the age of TEN but BEFORE that, he was diagnosed with everything under the sun and given every med under the sun until he had his first psychotic break. It was awful and it took a good five years before we found the ONE medication that brought his life back to normal. I'll tell you what, there is no magic pill that will keep you from thinking about killing your babies so Lindsay telling the doctors WOULD HAVE CHANGED NOTHING MED WISE. As it is, that list of meds made her INSANE, I guarantee it...took away all her rational thinking AND PUT EVIL VOICES IN HER HEAD THAT FELT LIKE URGES. This is what these meds, I dare say, are designed to do to KEEP PEOPLE SICK and the mental health system rich as hell. Only naive idiots refuse to believe this is how the system works. THE DOCTORS WHO PRESCRIBED LINDSAY THESE MEDS ARE TO BLAME HERE!!! Unfortunately, i's too late for Lindsay...just as it was for Andrea Yates who was prescribed these same meds when she went for help. Hearing the list of medications in this case was a sad realization for me. I’ve been treated with many of the same medications in the past for anxiety and depression. During the times when I was taking the antidepressants, I struggled severely with IPV and uncontrollable rage. In my 20’s, I never understood the correlation between the medication and my abusive behavior but have since gained control of my emotions and been able to find better coping mechanisms for my depression, leading me to realize the medications were either causing or exacerbating my violent tendencies/anger. But no one ever actually checked if I needed SSRI’s or SSNI’s, they just prescribe them like candy. The reality is these medications can be super dangerous for people that do not have a serotonin imbalance, but suffer more with dopamine imbalances. If she experienced what I experienced with those types of meds, I truly feel sorry for that whole family because it was completely avoidable with proper medical testing and treatment. 😢

This is very unsettling because Lindsay Clancy is no Susan Smith or Diane Downs. Both of those monsters killed/ severely harmed their children for a man. Lindsay threw herself out of the window to literally kill herself but ended up a quadraplegic, which is worse than living. Lindsay was going through postpartum issues mixed with psychiatrists, medical doctors, and therapists prescribing all sorts of pills. Even her husband expressed grave concern over what those treatments were doing to her. There's much more to it than what we're being fed. Hate my comment, but we must remain objective until.

Thank you Nancy. This case is a tragedy. At the risk of over sharing, but I am familiar with many of those medications; and they are heavy duty. It almost sounds like the mother has been over prescribed or she is very ill. I have clinical depression and have tried many of those meds. However, I never wanted to strangle my children. My mother was schizophrenic and was prescribed an anti psychotic drug which is Seroquel. Nancy you are blessed with a clear and logical mind as a JD. However many people struggle. I am in no way excusing the mother's actions. My mother never committed crimes but many criminals have mental illness. Mom could never order from a complicated menu. It reminds me of the Andrea Yates case who was extremely mentally ill and I could barely stand to learn about the case. Another tragedy.

@@ltee2261Thank you so much, Yes, dealing with mental health issues in a responsible way is challenging; proper therapy and medication is a matter of personal responsibly. I feel badly for people who stay confused and/or not able to deal with their challenges. The stigma of mental illness is not as bad as it used to be but it still is difficult. I feel like I have to keep it under wraps because others don't understand. However with age, I don't need others to understand. I just need to care for myself with the correct mental health care professionals. But for every troubled mass shooter or some parents killing their children, the stigma of mental illness increases.

It can cause suicidal ideation and or homicidal ideation. This is the problem with psychotropic medications. They can have devastating consequences and side effects. We tend to overprescribe our patients in the U.S. We need to talk seriously about mental health care in our country. We don’t have enough psychiatrists and other mental health professionals. I know of two women in the village where I lived in England who wanted to kill their children through postpartum depression. One nearly drowned her son and another ,her depression was so bad she was hospitalized after each of her three children. No one could understand this but it’s a terrible depression. Some times the medication makes the mother feel worse and they have the deepest desire to murder their children. These women were educated and one was a teacher. The hospital told the teacher that postpartum gets worse after each child. Luckily she was hospitalized and they got her better and when she was well she hated her self for having these thoughts. These women are not insane but they have feelings to get rid of their child or children. In the year 2023 we should be understanding what these women are going through. The husbands should be told to look for signs. Doctors should hospitalize these women instead of throwing drugs at them so that they have to try and medicate themselves. I feel deeply sorry for these poor children who need not have died and her poor husband who has lost his children and wife.

Her husband and her family had to know she was struggling. The sad part is many mothers don’t want to admit they are struggling because most people will make them feel crazy. There’s got to be more awareness about this.
