  • Hey everyone,
Today, I visited the new downtown home of the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco (ICA SF). This non-collecting museum provides a platform for artists to push boundaries and tackle critical social, political, and cultural issues. Always free to the public, ICA SF remains flexible and innovative, fostering meaningful engagement with contemporary art.
Starting October 2024, ICA SF will activate 'The Cube' in Downtown SF, a historic 1971 building, in collaboration with Vornado Realty Trust. This unique space inspires unconventional exhibitions, including Maryam Yousif’s work exploring her Baghdad roots through clay and architecture, blending Iraqi Modernism with Bay Area Funk ceramics. Kathleen Ryan’s sculptures reimagine decay, transforming rotting fruit and car parts into dazzling, thought-provoking commentaries on American excess.
The exhibition 'The Poetics of Dimensions' showcases artists transforming everyday materials-durags, plastics, shoelaces-into poetic expressions of overlooked histories and cultural narratives. Each piece challenges viewers to reconsider the beauty and meaning in the mundane.
ICA SF’s bold, accessible approach makes it a must-visit for anyone interested in the future of contemporary art. Stop by-it’s free for the next two years!
