This is the high point of Radiohead - this version of this song at this moment. This is my desert island Radiohead song: the absolute pinnacle. What a band.
I think it sounds kind of bad to be honest. That piano synth melody that carries throughout the whole song just sounds out of tune and weird. Not out of tune in a good way.
What the F for real - so much air and lightness in this version (compared to the claustrophobic album version), and the freakin harmonica in the ending. Heyday for them for sure (not that they are bad now...)
Several months ago, I was just getting into the band and my English teacher suggested me to listen to OK Computer followed by Kid A in that order. I was in a remote and touristy area in Wisconsin during its off season on March and I downloaded some flacs of Kid A from Deezer because I didn't listen to it at the time yet. It was night outside my timeshare and it was snowing, I had just finished EIIRP and when I heard the album version of this song, I was in complete awe and how much the song fitted in with that scenery. Everytime I play back Kid A, I always imagine that faithful night when I heard it for the first time, snow falling slowly with the time share number lights on at pitch dark.
While i do agree its a nice change to hear him without the modulation. Part of the magic of this song for me is how anonymous it feels because of the modulation, its like the band wanted you to forget that thom is singing. And the robotic voice just gives the lyrics a sense of isolation in an empty world. Im not saying it sounds worse or better, just gives it a different vibe, hearing him singing live without it sounds more personal, like sharing it to the world.
This was recorded before KId A was released. These people were hearing for the first time! I would've died right there.
I wish Jonny would play the harmonica more often. I love it here.
snow. this version makes me think of nostalgic snow. i love it.
yeah, totally! it’s like being in the middle of a snowstorm, chaotic but calm at the same time
love the vocals on this version

Are you me? Seriously though, agreed.

@@BrinoctopusI think your taste is kinda boring if you find the piano obscure.

That piano version of the opening just floors me. What an amazing arrangement

probably the perfect scenery for kid a
You had the best teacher ever. Kudos to that guy/girl👏👏👏
Almost distracts me from the fact that I don’t have a girlfriend
This sounds so much better without the voice modulation

when kid was being unveiled to the world
Wow I love this version more than the studio version. And I absolutely adore the studio version. But this one is better imo.
I think this is the most beautiful performance of Kid A ever!
I like this version better than the original
Beautiful version
Hated this track back then and grew to love it, this is AMAZING
I keep coming back to this. What a wonderful performance.
fuck me this is good
Girlfriend burnt this for me in high school. Precious memories.
I always look for this comment when I'm back on this video. The bygone era of burning discs.
Yeah. My peers don’t even know what that is. Istg 😅
this is utterly beautiful.
Man this is great
I hope we get a studio version of this song in the bundle
what are you talking about? its the second song in the album :I
@@Stephuzz i meant this version of it
Forest temple Zelda Ocarina of time vibes listening to this today
Have Radiohead ever used a harmonica in any other song? This is wonderful version.
Jonny plays one on I am a Wicked Child, and on the track Amethyst from his Inherent Vice soundtrack
he plays it on pavement's terror twilight album too!
he used to guest on the harmonica with the other members of Radiohead, who were known as On A Friday in the '80s!
WAO
What key of harmonica is jonny using in this performance?
i love the studio version but the vocals just kinda ruin it for me this version is so lovely
