Although the fish may not notice all the detail you put into that lure, I sure do. What a fantastic looking cicada! I made a cicada lure a few years ago and put a vibrating motor in it that was powered by a solar panel. Although I carved some details, they weren't near as nice as yours.

Great job, it seems to me you are doing a high detail of the bait, but because of the final coating they are all lost. I think you're wasting a lot of time paying attention to such little things. I'm cutting balsa baits. I make simple shapes for a good smooth coating, without bumps. Keep the general shapes, but without too much detail and wood carving and you will get a much better result.
