Nice one. "Subaru jigsaw" indeed. I don't want to tell you how to do your job, Benny, but rubber suspension bushes are always tightened at ride height, not full droop. That way the bushes are in their natural postion and they don't tear when the suspension compresses.
Just got home from work, grabbed a drink, Benny's uploaded. Ah yeah, perfect timing. My Gen 4 Lib Spec B got rear-ended, I now have a 500hp EJ257T and 6 speed box to find a home for, weighing up between a Forrester or Outback to drop it into, I might have to consider an Impreza as well now. 👍
Was loving the factory options, just swapping parts from one to the other, but ya 5:40 it is true not going to be 100% till you do that work, but as you say this is just for more clearance than performance.
Ben, nice roof rack tutorial. Just picked up an '02 Outback EZ30, so this is insightful. I've been replacing rusted 6mm bolts with stainless or coating with anti-seize paste. Salt treated/brined roads leaves a lot of rust... Any thought of mounting a light bar on the basket?
Benny! I need to know, what was the purpose of changing the front control arm rear brackets? Caster angle because of the extra lift with the springs??? I know you need the trailing arm brackets for the rear wheels but this is the first I've seen changing the brackets for the FRONT wheels.
All of your clearance and traction issues could’ve been alleviated with a headlight restoration 🤣 P.s. she needs some all terrains. KO2’s or some Maxxis at811’s 👍 should add another inch or so of ground clearance.
2min. 40sec. in I've never actually seen one of those lateral arm through bolts just come out like that without a serious amount of panther piss, percussive persuasion and even heat applied. You have snow in Australia? I did not know that.

Cool project to watch(As all of them). but it still confuses me why to lift a 4WD Subi for snow. I have a FWD Octavia here in Switzerland and never had an issue. It's not the lift which does the trick It's the Winter/Snow tires!
Honestly, I think I wouldn't put the subframe spacers in even if it is the right way to do it. I think I'd rather keep the bit of extra ground clearance and fix the issue by getting new driveaxels with better CV's that can handle the extra angle under power.
Shouldn't you have final tightened all the bushes on your LCA, lateral and trailing arms with weight on them? The rubber will be binding and can cause issues with alignment and faster wear on your bushes, luckily the angle of your arms at full droop looks fairly close to your angle at ride height but it still doesn't seem optimal.
I might be over thinking this, but with the rails and new crossbars, is there a risk water could get in through the holes and cause them to rust or for the rails find a way into the roof?
Benny, don't want to be safety guy, but using that angle grinder without a guard could lead to a bad day. Pieces of broken disc in the face are not a good time.
Mine has factory roof racks with cross bars that are flush with the side rails but they were not bad for scrap. You didn’t show the finished product either..!

Honestly, you could get away with just using Forester struts and the rear trailing arm brackets. But since they went with even MORE lift using the aftermarket springs over the stock ones, you need all the extra stuff to correct the suspension geometry. You could even just remove the rear sway bar entirely, but in some places I don't believe you can legally do that (vehicle inspections, etc).
Sharing platforms (and chassis) across economy, "luxury", family, all-terrain and performance really makes for a fun car to blow all your money on
I thought u we're going to flush mount those cross bars myself with the angle iron parts attached flipped the other way
The basket wouldn’t fit that way :(
@@BennysCustomWorks is that cause of the curve of the roof rails?
@@postiepat1541 exactly
Rally lights or a light bar in front of the roof basket would be great for tying it all together. The basket looks a bit alone on the roof.

Awesome wagon! You should talk the owner into getting a Torq rear diff locker for the R160. Would help with that wheel spin off road.
A wind deflector does wonders for wind noise and fuel economy with those mesh style roof baskets.
Love the DIY crossbars. Might steal that idea for my Forester 👍
check your laws though- that thing would be illegal here
the factory ones mount flush if you can find some used.

Why not flip the blue bars over for a lower profile?
probably to clear the bolt heads, but I like the cut of your jib. would be super low and clean.
