I live in Canada and my parents still lived in England so of course I knew one day I would get the call to get home quickly and three times over the years I have received that dreaded call. We put money aside knowing this and have never regretted it, my parents have since passed away and the time I spent with them at the end was well worth all the money. I can't imagine the stress of not been able to go at a moments notice and having time off work.
This is exactly what emergency funds are for. And I think it's really smart to discuss the importance of filling that emergency fund back up asap if/when you have to take from it. Because emergencies are not polite enough to give us advanced notice of when they will next occur. Always love your mid-week money chats! 🥰

I, too, live away from my family. After I made an unexpected trip this summer, I am wondering about having a sinking fund just for that. Especially as my parents age, the need for 'unexpected' trips will grow.
I appreciate how transparent your posts are. Emergencies happen and usually at the most inopportune time. It's a little less stressful not having to figure out where the money is coming from. My dog went in to have a bad tooth removed. Quote was $200 - $400. Ended up having 7 removed, absences, and infections for a total of $1400+. I took a week off work to be with her during the worst part of the recovery. So glad that i could make the decision to do the necessary treatment without having to panic about how i was going to pay for it. Back to building the rainy day fund because you know it's going to rain at some point. Glad you were able to go when you were needed. ❤

I have been babying my 15 year old car along trying to build up my investment account to get a newer one. My goal was to keep it another 2 years. But, alas, it became too dangerous to drive and way too expensive to repair. I didn't have quite enough in savings for the total cost of the newer car so I had to take $1100 out of my checking account which left it down to the nubs! But I'm proud of paying cash and owning my car free and clear so I I'll only spend what cash I have in my purse until the first of October! Here's where it's good to have everything already paid up for the month and a well stocked pantry! I could borrow or charge to cover if I absolutely had to. But where's the fun in that!😊

Watch any of our budgeting videos. We have sinking funds for everything. We have long term savings (which I used and we will rebuild) and 12 months living expenses in an emergency fund that I didn't touch.
Know this only too well. Just over 4 weeks ago I got a call that i needed to go back to NZ (from Australia). Booked the trip a few days ahead. Could you do a video about how to have an extreme frugal but still festive Christmas? Please give us monthly updates on your no spend months.
@@FrugalQueeninFrance yes, I remember seeing that in your budget. I was referring to treats and goodies that are customary at Christmas. Would you just make homemade treats from pantry items on hand ? I'd enjoy a "making do" a video about celebrating whilst being extremely frugal.
Interesting! This I could not do, if I'm honest. I would just count it as a loss on my long term savings and maybe build that back up over a longer time. Cudos to you for being so proactive, I'd just have such a strong negative emotional reaction to cutting back further!😢😊 Then again, my gas bill for the car is less than 20 euros a month as is.
Is there some way to increase income for next 6/months? Sell quilts, make an extra 2 videos a week ( I like that one haha) sell anything. This was great to listen to how you will save the money back. Interesting I would spend sinking funds before I spent my emergency fund. I have started an unexpected expenses sinking fund that I am going to keep $2k minimum in.
@@bunnobear I've mentioned before. You must have missed those videos. Why I don't sell quilts. I'd have to be a registered quilt maker and seller. I'm a registered you tuber. Thanks for that!
@@kathigos4921 thanks for watching
So important to have a ln emergency fund for the emergencies in life that arise
We agree there
Just curious- did you tap into your Emergency Fund or did you have other savings that you tapped into and are now refilling?
We didn't use our emergency fund.
😊
Thank you
Well done. 1500 euros is almost $1700 USD.
I know you and Mike will rebuild quickly
Thank you
Hense the emergency fund
Absolutely true!
Financial Inconvenience 👍
Thanks
We don’t need to know why you went to the UK. The replacing of the reduced emergency fund is the real lesson here.
Thanks so much
Is there some way to increase income for next 6/months? Sell quilts, make an extra 2 videos a week ( I like that one haha) sell anything. This was great to listen to how you will save the money back. Interesting I would spend sinking funds before I spent my emergency fund. I have started an unexpected expenses sinking fund that I am going to keep $2k minimum in.
@@bunnobear I've mentioned before. You must have missed those videos. Why I don't sell quilts. I'd have to be a registered quilt maker and seller. I'm a registered you tuber. I'd have to close my you tube business as a professional liberal and open a business as an artisan. You can not be simultaneously registered as a professional liberal and an artisan at the same time.
@@FrugalQueeninFrance interesting thank you for sharing :)
Just wondering- do you ever feel like a couple of relief teacher days/year would be worth the time spent to give you a little more wriggle room in the budget?
Absolutely bloody well no to that! I'd lose money as the accommodation I'd have to rent in the UK would cost more than I'd earn.
I lived in South Africa my parents in Scotland and at times I had to fly home to sort out problems, that’s life
Thanks
You're lucky you could use cash everywhere. Many hotels, taxis, airplanes, etc will only take a credit card here in the US.
Thanks
A emergency account is essential for my mental health. Then I know I have it. We had some well issues this summer. Fortunately we were able to get it fixed for 2700$ and didn’t have to drill a new well. I was thankful I have an emergency fund to cover even if we had needed a new well. That emergency fund lets me sleep at night.
Well done
Afternoon!
