This short film was an assigment to animate a recording of a philosophical essay provided by a local philosopher. It was probably the most cursed excercise we got at uni, hope you'll enjoy xD
This was animated in our kitchen over the course of a few nights xD

I don't understand any of the dialogue but finding a local philosopher must be hard. Also, I imagined something like Muskrat from Moominvalley when I saw the sentence "local philosopher" lol

I love the way the way the water is animated! If this was animated differently it might not have felt the way it was trying to be executed. I love listening to the different languages and read along in the captions as they talk.

You are so talented! All your animations is really remarkable and relatable, at least for me. Not even speaking about art style - it’s absolutely cool! I’m an artist too, and hope one day I will be able to animate so smoothly,,,thank for your creations! They are really inspiring)

I’ve actually been learning about existentialism in college and my entire life has been an existential crisis at this point so this is a beautiful full circle moment. And the animation is GORGEOUS

Gosh, your compositions are so striking - incredible how you’re able to translate your style to stop motion without it feeling like a compromise! Clearly takes advantage of the medium in a fun way but your aesthetic interests are still at play. Great work!!

everything about this is amazing!|! love the animation and composition ^-^
Also it feels somewhat comforting, watching someone do such mundane things like cleaning their teeth while hearing those existentialism thoughts xD Huge contrast yet it feels so right
The bathroom do be the best room for mind-wandering, probably the most intimate room where we really get to explore and question ourself.
Anyway, as an artist as well, keep it up cause u are so freaking good, i love ur stuff and never stop posting cause its so inspiring qwq

I think this is beautifully done and I love the meaning of this! I can tell you put in so much time and effort to this project. I have definitely questioned existence and this captures how meaningless everything can feel, especially small things like brushing my teeth.

Thank you... Really. THANK YOU for this work. Lately, such thoughts have been taking hold of me, and I can't sleep, or even live... This animation comforts me and I feel that I am not alone in my thoughts. I know that even if I go to a therapist and takes medicine, the fact of how absurd our lives are will never change. Your animations evoke so many emotions in me. This animation structures my thoughts and.. Oh my God, the ending.. It feels like when you fully realize that there is no way out and you are trying to pick out the meaning of life from the last hope, trying to find it, but you are just starting this endless circle over and over again.... Thank you for taking this theme. Your animations really save me and inspire me.... I never forgot the day when my friend send me your animation and how I was impressed. Thank you.

The baseline of life is suffering, meaning, if you do not do anything, you will suffer (hunger, thirst, etc). This (and other suffering) is inevitable. However, one purpose in life could be not to erase such suffering (impossible) but to counterbalance it. Find something you can do that makes your whole life worthwhile. That's one purpose of life.

Beautiful animation, I love your style :)
It really makes you think about how simple humans are and how little we know about what happens next, if something happens at all. Maybe it does have meaning and we should cherish it, we don't even know if it doesn't.

the seemingly mundane repetitive tasks that technically have purpose... this was amazing. what an intense feeling I had afterwards, after seeing an animation that has made me feel truly existential like no other. not to mention the beautiful style. AND it was made in stop motion, one of the most time-intensive methods of animation, if not motion picture itself. so incredible.

Personally, I've never ventured to seek a fundamental, intrisic purpose for existing things. I've always had a fairly clear idea, even if it evolved and refined itself over time, of what it was that I'd like to be moving towards, at any given point of my life. Even in moments where it felt I was stripped of identity or ability to sustain myself, I still understood my direction, because it's something I figured out fairly young and never ceased to comtemplate. That way, there have never been many moments where I would feel compelled to find the "meaning of life"; that's just not a dark corner I've been backed into, for there was always that constant reminder of my intentions and desires for myself and my life. I've faced a slightly different challenge as a result of my personal conditions, and as such I have developed a different response than the existential sort of philosophies many others have developed for themselves. What I mean is, since I always knew what I wanted with my future, but could never obtain it in my present, I was forced to contemplate the most effective theoretical modes of action, which could be applied to my situation and ultimately guide me to the intended outcome. This at first looked like different ways of organizing my own personal affairs, which then evolved into critiques of structures of organization, which then branched into theories of physics, communication, and social systems, and when I was 16, I found that the best way to obtain my sort of "golden methodology" was to find the intersection of linguistics, complex systems theory, and social organization. I was attempting to create an infallible mode of action, purely for my own application, but this eventually evolved into creating modes of action which could be applied under any circumstance by any individual, to similar effect. So, instead of arriving at the meaning of life, I found myself seeking the means to best correct of the *modus operandi* of those currently alive.

Wonderfully done film :) the end especially stood out to me. The washing machine cycling on and on as the words about life being about us finding meaning kept repeating brought to mind how often these existential thoughts can come and go. Beautiful reflections leading to the same conclusion again and again, like a laundry cycle. Perhaps in a way, these thoughts are like cleaning the gunk from the mind, philosophical musings that allow us to lighten the load of life's absurdity or seeming pointlessness, especially when things get difficult. I'm sure there are other interesting conclusions that can be drawn from this, either way enjoyable to watch and to think about.
