Regular Mailbox vs. MailBoss Mailbox & and How to Install a new Mailbox to stop Theft

- So for the first time in our lives we have had mail stolen from our mailbox. Thankfully it was nothing but junk mail, and we only knew about it because we caught the criminals on our ring security cameras.
So we knew we needed to get a new mailbox that was more secure. This new mailbox by Mailboss is called the Mail Manager and a link is below for it on amazon. This was super easy to install and do it yourself. It only took about 20 minutes to complete and is so much more secure than a regular mailbox. It allows mail to be secured behind a lock and key and someone couldnt just reach into the box and take our mail.
I understand this isnt a perfect solution and a person could still steal the mail from inside, but at least it is a little bit more protected than before.

you drilled that deep without knowing if a power or water or sewer line was there in an instructional video ??? THIS IS AWESOME !
Nope. I called bluestake and also, we are rural and I know there aren’t any there in that spot also.
I have a metal post\pipe the city installed. They replaced everyone's posts and moved the boxes where they wanted on the entire road. It was madness. I hope I can get the holes to line up. I got a Mailboss box in almost mint condition at a yard sale for $25 that I think is the $100ish model.
I'm currently making a mailbox post out of iron and grating so it can be filled with rocks.
Thanks for posting this! Isn't wasn't clear from the MailBoss description on Amazon, if the adaptor plate was needed for a 4x4 wood post. From your video, it clearly installs easily without it.
You’re welcome! It’s actually really easy to install and shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes outside of the cement trying
Check "How to Install a Mailbox - USPS"
Position your mailbox 41″ to 45″ from the road surface to the bottom of the mailbox or point of mail entry.
Place your mailbox 6″ to 8″ back from the curb. If you do not have a raised curb, contact your local postmaster for guidance.
Good call. Always good to check this. Especially if your in a track home community. Out in our rural area it’s not so important, but even so we just put it right next to the old one and even talked to our postal delivery person about it
Wearing sandals like a boss ;). Great clear video. I’m curious I ordered the mail boss 43” steel post. Does it make sense to still put a 4x4 wood in the ground and drill the steel post into that or just cement in the steel post? Worried it won’t be high enough.
Haha! Thanks. My wife loved that part too. Not…
I can’t remember how tall mine is, but it’s lower than you think for the post office workers to reach it from their vehicles easily. Just make sure you have enough to cement into the ground too. I don’t think 43” would be enough
Yes I would put a 4x4 post all the way up and have it extend about 18 in from the bottom of the steel post. This way you'll have extra height and be able to sink deeper into the ground. I cemented just up to the holes for the lag bolts which I used to secure the steel post to the 4x4.
Thanks for the
Video
Is that lock on the mailbox compliant with USPS?
Yep it’s approved by the postmaster
@@LaceyFamilyFarm thanks
Another great video very helpful. Good advice and very clear. The only comment I have is why buy a secure locking mailbox and then secure it to exposed wood when anyone with a reciprocating saw can take the entire box in 30 seconds? I would invest the 80 or $100 into their Steel sleeve which will cover your post
That’s actually a great idea. I honestly hadn’t thought of it. But I’ll probably do that now
large bolder rocks around the post would add protection too... criminals drive their vehicles into the posts to knock them out of the ground then just take the entire thing away in my city.
So legal size envelopes and packages will not jam the opening? I can't see how a legal envelope would drop down into the bay. Maybe make a follow up video on how this works? I am considering the Pro 7500 model.
That’s a great idea! But yes they fit. If they don’t fit straight in, our post office worker just bends them slightly and the go right in.
We have never had an issue with getting something delivered.
@@LaceyFamilyFarm Awesome. We are considering the Mail Manager Pro 7500 model.
Awesome! All of them are great. I’m so glad we switched.
Can a hand REALLY not get theough the opening and fish?
Nope! It really can’t.
@@LaceyFamilyFarm Thank you!
Everyone is here because our mail got stolen 😓🤣🤣
Sorry. lol.
Seems pretty flimsy on that post.
It actually isn’t. It’s held up perfectly since putting it up.
@@LaceyFamilyFarm I’m not talking about the actual post. I’m talking about the mailbox attached to the post. In the video it moves up and down way too much. Should’ve used their base plate.
@@setlikeamf gotcha. I’ve had actually no issues with it at all in the months we have had it installed. So, your probably right, but thankfully no issues yet. 🤞
