I spend 2 to 4+ hrs on Khan Academy everyday. I have 1.5 million points on it. Khan Academy is by far the most important and influential educational tool I have ever had. Im a high school drop out with a GED. Im going into Calculus 2/ Physics 1 w. lab in college next semester. I will likely end up at Florida Institute of Technology in Engineering school sometime next year for a bachelors.

    Notes for my reference
28:30 help them take ownership of their own learning.
32:00 free and best test prep
38:50 make education more ubiquitous, and a fundamental human right
40:00 question: education only teach what can be measured. What about actually useful skills?
Answer: Khan helps do the measurable part quick, and free up time for the more complex parts. Now we are measured by the portfolio of work we have done, and peer feedback.
    43:00 multi-cultural? E.g. history class.
47:50 Q: screen time. A: as long as there is a balance of outside time and screen time. Education in the future, kids are outside more and interacting with each other more than today.
49:30 Q: foreign language? A: Idea, kid skype budy with different language speaking kid.
50:00 Q: lack of writing class? A: maybe future, you write blog on Khan, and others give you feedback.
54:00 Q: hard to get kids to commit. A: growth mindset: I can get where I need to get to. fixed mindset: I'm good / I'm bad. They are afraid of failing. And we overschedule our middlers, they don't have room to search.
58:00 Q: plan reach out to underpreviliged schools? A: On Khan with a coach you are more committed than others. Mentors partner with boy and girls club.

if he didn't do all this he wouldn't have been the so called pride of USA, you would have always asked him this one question "so where are you from?" I was born in UK, my grandfather migrated here as a British Navy officer, however im always asked so where are you from.

Sal I have Learnt a lot of basic concepts from your videos, and also some advanced thoughts about how to think Education for future from your talk in this video. Kudos to all your great work. I should consider educating my own kids like the way you envision to look at learning outcomes than grades!! Loved it

Sal your the best men. Been following your work for sometime. As a online teacher you improved a lot. And there is none who can match the quality and the information output.. I for one hated mathematics but because of you my main studies are mathematics.. I prefer a good Sal lecture over an episode of a Hollywood sitcoms :)

As good as Sal and Khan academy is, I think over time it should develop subjects of every kind. And languages should definitely be included. Law. Economics. Sciences. Art. The lot. Everything that anyone would wish to know related to a subject should be a part of Khan Academy in the future.

The part that stuck with me was when he said a bunch of engineers from cisco systems took time on their days off to build computer labs in Mongolia. Is life truly worth living without helping others?

I had so many difficulties in mathematics over the past few years, forgetting concepts and formulas after learning them in a few amount of time(One month > ) and i believed that I'm not good at it and will never be .Then i started watching khan academy's mathematics lessons and the way sal explains the lessons made it so easy for me to remember the concepts , make them stick in my head and actually be perfect in my math and geometry classes.
    Thank you Salman Khan.

Very interesting questions, especially those from the white bearded man. He tackles one of the main issues related with Khan: the "standartization" of the education around the world. This can affect the world capabilities of innovation, as everything will be measured by the same bar.
For me, the good side of Khan Academy surprasses that potentially "bad" side. I have strong hopes that the community of students can put their local identity in each topic. But Khan Academy must be really aware of this issue and open about the possibility of content contributors from around the world.

Is it an indication of how weird our schools systems are that a girl who with a bit of help was placed in the 'advanced class' when if she hadn't had help from Sal the school would have treated her as a remedial student, and she may never have bothered to overcome her blocks? Although she probably would have got unit conversion eventually, she'd surely have hit another road block soon.
But in reality she was capable of learning that easily, but the system wasn't able to help her do it! So what is the system for? Babysitting I guess.
