Just had to sanitize our entire lab after losing an entire crop to white mold. I'm doing a quick pressure wash into a sanitizing soak and then into a fresh water rinse. More importantly, I found that my RO water filter was getting moldy due to me not having to use it often. I usually fill a 55 gallon drum and then drain some of that into a 25 gallon container for easy water gathering. This means I don't need to run the RO water for up to 2 weeks at a time... during that time it has the chance to grow mold on the filters. Need to run it much more often so will no longer be filling the 55 gallon barrel. Went ahead and sanitized racks, walls and floors around my greens while also upping the air movement with new fan. Latest grow seems to be moving as expected. As always, you guys rock and thanks for the content!

If using vinegar or peroxide at home how long do you leave it on the trays? And have you found any way of getting stains off the dehydrator screens used for smaller seeds? Great video thanks
Great information! Wondering how you guys liked the small lime green trays? I am looking for some to purchase. I just got some seeds and getting together a rack to grow a few micro greens for my family.
Great inquiry! We have been talking about running some trials for best methods on storage microgreens... We have tried a ton of different ways such as bags/jars/containers, putting paper towels in them to absorb moisture and have figured out some fun stuff. The main tip we have is to keep them off the back of refrigerators where the cooling unit is, because it will actually bust the cell walls of the plants and cause them to decay very fast. Keep them cool, but not too cold :) CJ's mom actually just stores them in a mason jar without refrigeration and they seem to last for a few days like that too! It will be fun to do some trials soon!

Vinegar doesn't kill pathogens, it just keeps them at bay by inhibiting their growth. So especially where sanitation is really required, high heat, bleach or Peroxide are a way better option. But thanks for sharing your methods :)
Great tips. For home growers, if we used peroxide do we have to dilute or can use full concentration as is out of the bottle? If needed to dilute what is the dilute ratio? Thanks

A video on this was so needed. Thank you! Do you guys reccomend rinsing the trays after dunking them in the sanitized solution? I do this to remove the bleach but maybe just letting them air dry is good enough after dunking them.
In foodservice you don't rinse after the sanitizing dunk. When you keep it below 200 ppm like they mention it's not considered toxic. You could also use food grade peroxide, which breaks down into oxygen and water.
A 200ppm bleach 60sec contact time is a no rinse sanatizer. As always 1st clean rinse then sanitize. If you do use soap make sure you get it off before sanitizing. Probably a good idea to at least use an opaque dunk tub and keep it in the shade or covered when not actively using. A sunny day can reduce chlorine by 90% in a few hours.
I saw another grower that sprays their crop with a peroxide spray three times during the whole process! Do you spray your crops with anything to prevent something you don't want growing (e.g. fungus, etc)?

Hi guys thank you for sharing this! I'm just wondering on the ratio of bleach and hydrogen peroxide to the water? Also can I use hydrogen peroxide to heal wounds?
Which trays do I need? Really want to try this, your channel have so much valuable information...Thank you. The one thing that keeps me back is to get a market....want to do this for an income....any recommendations?
If using the Chlorine bleach "dunk", what do you do with this bleach solution afterwards? How do you dispose of it? Pour it on asphalt somewhere? I have some trays I want to thoroughly disinfect and want to make 100% sure they'll be cleaned. Thanks!
🙂It can be diluted with a bit more water...then it's safe to drain down a sink. Thank you so much for the support pranafire!! We are going to be making new content soon! 😄

🙂Thank you so much for the Feedback Stephanie Lees! We appreciate your support! 🙂The final bleach dunk is a diluted solution...after that dunking, just dry in the air staggered stacked as in the video.
I live in a desert where water is very precious, so I would favor a tub method where I could use the "used" water for other plants (except for chemical water). That being said, our production is so small (all our 5x5s fit it one 1020 per week). So I just wash mine in the sink with our regular dishes. But I do scrub well with a stiff brush and dry well.
Thank you for another great video! Do you know if H2O2-H2O solution loses its effectiveness over time? Or is it possible to mix a bottle and use it over a period of several months with no worries?
Thank you so much for the question Adam Veselý!! We are going to be making new content soon! 😄 🙂For best results we only mix up what we are using week to week at most...evaporation etc could happen with the stored bottle!!!
Next level, put the power washer nozzle in a fixed position. Velcro strap it so it stays spraying. Then move the trays around in the stream and then stack into sanitation tub(s). Next level after that would be to pass them under a UVC light in a box with slots on each end that the trays can slide through. Push one through one slot to push the one that's already in the light through the other slot on the other side of the box.

So your soak "dunk" bath is that chlorine bleach or hydrogen peroxide? I'd like to do this with hydrogen peroxide but I can't figure out the recipe/ratio for water to 3% hydrogen peroxide (grocery store gallon jug). Do I need to pour the whole thing in a tough tote or can I dilute it with water? Anyone know the answer? I've read in several places the recommendation to spray bottle "spritz their trays with undiluted 3% hydrogen peroxide, but i can't find any mention of a "dunk" soaking bath solution using hydrogen peroxide.
I wanted to update this... I found an article, or should say my friend found it and sent it to me, that had a chart showing what ratios to use. The quick and easy answer is 10 cups of hydrogen peroxide for 20 gallons of water. So I just dump a whole jug (equivalent to a little over 10 cups) of grocery store "chlorine free bleach" (hydrogen peroxide that is around 3% concentration, possibly up to 5%) into an almost full 27 gallon plastic tote (those black ones with the yellow lid from big box home stores) and whallah... hydrogen peroxide soaking bath for sanitizing trays that should work... maybe I'll make a video on this at some point in the future. Yet to really test this out (I'm new here) so proceed with caution and do your own experimenting to see what works for you. 🤙🌱⚡🐉

There are several forms of "bleach". By "bleach" do you mean a sodium hypo chlorite product like "Clorox" or some form of Oxygen bleach? I just bought a bottle of the food grade hydrogen peroxide (w/out stabilizers) for the seed germination process and it wasn't cheap so I 'm guessing using that to sanitize trays isn't economical.
Regular clorox, diluted. Thank you so much for the support pranafire!! I grow with Coconut coir, and never had a problem washing trays off in the sink. One time I grew with soil (with perlite, bark, stones), and had a very big problem after washing it in the sink.
We have a strainer that catches it and we showed that for home use purposes only. We wash ours outside with a power washer like we showed at the end... you can also just rinse it outside or if you have a ton of trays, fill the sink with some water and scrub it down.
We have a triple sink in our grow space! They’re just a bit too small for the 10x20 trays we use, so we prefer the big 27gallon reservoirs to make sure we can get the whole tray submerged evenly.
🙂After reviewing your comment, I see what you see!!! Our procedure now would reveal (1)wash reservoir then into (2) rinse reservoir and then finalize with (3) sanitizer dunking reservoir...3 sink system outdoors! Thank you so much for the support We are going to be making new content soon! 😄
It really depends... Some people don't sanitize at all, others will do it after every batch, some will only do it when they've run into issues such as mold becoming a problem. We like to sanitize about every two-three grows but we will wash thoroughly and sun bathe our trays between each grow.
Why would you sanitize after each cultivation? The answer will lead to the deficiencies in process/environment you grow. Sanitizing trays as precautionary measure will be the best answer. It all depends on your environment, past experience with sanity and level of quality you committed to your customers and to yourself

Oh ya I can’t believe I didn’t think about using my power washer lol 👍 lol I’ve bounced around every method shown in this video & ya 20 plus trays is not fun lol cool I’m now a power washer = winter time under the patio cover with rain boots 👍👍

Hi guys thank you for sharing this! I'm just wondering on the ratio of bleach and hydrogen peroxide to the water? Also can I use hydrogen peroxide to heal wounds?
🙂Thank you so much for the Feedback Brandon Grageda! We appreciate your support! Hydrogen peroxide is used topically for some wounds.. yes...

Hello fellow microgreens grower! And urban Farmer!
We are in the process of developing a product for cleaning trays! It will save you time and water! And we have some questions!
Do you use any products to help you clean them?
How are you typically cleaning your trays? Water hose? Pressure washer? Good old scrub?
How many trays are you washing per week?
How much would you pay for a product that will help you clean off all those trays??
Would you agree that cleaning the trays is the worst part about growing microgreens?
We would love to know!
do you need to rinse off the trays after the bleach dunk? Thx guys, I love your channel!
🙂Thank you so much for the support Virginia Voigt!! We are going to be making new content soon! 😄
Thank you for another great video! Do you know if H2O2-H2O solution loses its effectiveness over time? Or is it possible to mix a bottle and use it over a period of several months with no worries?
Thank you so much for the question Adam Veselý!! We are going to be making new content soon! 😄
🙂For best results we only mix up what we are using week to week at most...evaporation etc could happen with the stored bottle!!!
@@OnTheGrow Thanks!
What’s more sanitary medium to grow microgreens?
Probably using a mesh screen. Easiest to sanitize and reuse and know it is fully sanitized.
beautiful front curl 🤣💚
Thanks !
thanks
Thank you so much for the Feedback M C! We appreciate your support!🙂 Keep it clean!!!😉
🙂Thank you so much for the Feedback j majick! We appreciate your support!
Hello, i wanted to tell you that i really love your channel and all of your video. They are very interesting and informative. I am thinking on upscaling my home production to eat more microgreens, so your video come in handy. I want to use the hemp terrafibre technics, so i am intersted in a video about watering challenges in those condition. UV light is supposed to help sterilize things as well, I wonder about building a custom sink with UV lights and same for drying rack and ditch chemicals altogether... ( It's winter where I am and so thinking about how to carry out these processes indoors)
We get it! Outside cleaning in th winter is the worst! If you have the space, we think it is a great idea! Thank you so much for the support pranafire!! We are going to be making new content soon! 😄
Hi :) can i ask you can we use food grade alcohol to sanitize the trays? Thank you :)
Thank you Kartika Eriyanti 🥳 We really appreciate your support!! We don't think that would sanitize them at all since the alcohol has to be over 70% in kill germs and all that...the alcohol we consume is at best 40-50%

great video . I would however suggest that you be careful with how much dirt you wash down your drain.

Lol, not sure what you’re talking about, that was all Mandi 😂 🌱🌱
Using the sun to sterilize. Brilliant.
Nothing like going prehistoric sometimes...Sun good!😃
What is the ratio of hydrogen peroxide and water?
3% is great for spray. It can be less for a dunk
🙂Great insight...Thank you so much for the Feedback Jenn W! We appreciate your support!
We are going to be making new content soon! 😄 pranafire 😀We are so excited to announce that both our Microgreens Master Book and our first Microgreens Cookbook will be available very soon!

what's the recipe for making 100 ppm bleach water?
Thanks for the vid but remember to put a strainer on your sink drain or know a plumber lol
We have one and we don’t wash in our sink, just showing some examples of how to do it! Agreed on making sure you have a strainer though 🤗🌱🌱
I grow with Coconut coir, and never had a problem washing trays off in the sink. One time I grew with soil (with perlite, bark, stones), and had a very big problem after washing it in the sink.

Using excessive water for sink use!!! How many clogged drains has all that used coir given you?
We have a strainer that catches it and we showed that for home use purposes only. We wash ours outside with a power washer like we showed at the end... you can also just rinse it outside or if you have a ton of trays, fill the sink with some water and scrub it down.
you need a 3 sink station.....like restaurants
We have a triple sink in our grow space! They’re just a bit too small for the 10x20 trays we use, so we prefer the big 27gallon reservoirs to make sure we can get the whole tray submerged evenly.
🙂After reviewing your comment, I see what you see!!! Our procedure now would reveal (1)wash reservoir then into (2) rinse reservoir and then finalize with (3) sanitizer dunking reservoir...3 sink system outdoors! Thank you so much for the support We are going to be making new content soon! 😄
It's necessary to sanitize the tray after every microgreens cultivation.
