    I think it's great that you cover ALL of the aspects of growing and not only the visually appealing parts. The switch was unexpected and hilarious.

    Just had to sanitize our entire lab after losing an entire crop to white mold. I'm doing a quick pressure wash into a sanitizing soak and then into a fresh water rinse. More importantly, I found that my RO water filter was getting moldy due to me not having to use it often. I usually fill a 55 gallon drum and then drain some of that into a 25 gallon container for easy water gathering. This means I don't need to run the RO water for up to 2 weeks at a time... during that time it has the chance to grow mold on the filters. Need to run it much more often so will no longer be filling the 55 gallon barrel. Went ahead and sanitized racks, walls and floors around my greens while also upping the air movement with new fan. Latest grow seems to be moving as expected. As always, you guys rock and thanks for the content!

    Absolutely love all of your content! keep up the great work showing us how microgreens can be fun and healthy to grow! I love that you've expanded your videos to show different cleaning techniques and especially your disclaimers and info about health department standards depending on where you live, nice touch! Many people do have questions regarding this, especially customers, so explaining the clean management of the product emphasizes your commitment to producing healthier produce, is an important part of the growing process. So it's great to see your content about the healthy methods of performing this vital procedure. Thanks sooo much!!

    I've been waiting for this!! I happy my process ended up being similar, we even have the same scrubber.
    Me & my roommate have to clean ~50 trays every 2 weeks. It's defiantly the least fun part of the process.
    I'm always looking for decrease the time it takes, so thank you

      Hello fellow microgreens grower! And urban Farmer!
      We are in the process of developing a product for cleaning trays! It will save you time and water! And we have some questions!
      Do you use any products to help you clean them?
      How are you typically cleaning your trays? Water hose? Pressure washer? Good old scrub?
      How many trays are you washing per week?
      How much would you pay for a product that will help you clean off all those trays??
      Would you agree that cleaning the trays is the worst part about growing microgreens?
      We would love to know!

    Hey guys, thanks for all the free help! We are just starting over here and I wish I had gotten mesh trays instead of the regular slotted holes. We are using the hemp mats as a growing medium. It's not worth it to send them back. I was wondering if I can drill holes in mine for better drainage and root growth or is there a variety of microgreen they will be ideal for instead? Thanks for any advice!

    I’d be curious to see your recommendations for storing harvested crop on a personal usage or commercial level.

    • @OnTheGrow
      @OnTheGrow  4 роки тому +5

      Great inquiry! We have been talking about running some trials for best methods on storage microgreens... We have tried a ton of different ways such as bags/jars/containers, putting paper towels in them to absorb moisture and have figured out some fun stuff. The main tip we have is to keep them off the back of refrigerators where the cooling unit is, because it will actually bust the cell walls of the plants and cause them to decay very fast. Keep them cool, but not too cold :) CJ's mom actually just stores them in a mason jar without refrigeration and they seem to last for a few days like that too! It will be fun to do some trials soon!

    Ok, ok Love the new hairdo I don’t know how Mandi got rid of her tattoos from one frame to the next, but that was interesting. All kidding aside I really did enjoy the vid. Thanks. It looked great for everybody out in shorts on a nice sunny day but my question to you and maybe even another video is let’s talk winter time. Half of the country has snow and ice and I’d like to see the same video done in the snow time. And any other videos that may pertain to outside work. Hey guys thank you so much for the video!! This is the biggest pain for me! Slightly unrelated to this topic. But could you guys go a comparison video or just do a Q and A about the difference in Ph levels and which one is the most likely to grow mold? I’d assume the more acidic the less likely to grow mold but o could very easily be wrong. Just curious and thank you guys!

    • @OnTheGrow
      @OnTheGrow  4 роки тому +1

    Vinegar doesn't kill pathogens, it just keeps them at bay by inhibiting their growth. So especially where sanitation is really required, high heat, bleach or Peroxide are a way better option. But thanks for sharing your methods :)

    A video on this was so needed. Thank you! Do you guys reccomend rinsing the trays after dunking them in the sanitized solution? I do this to remove the bleach but maybe just letting them air dry is good enough after dunking them.

    • @jennw6809
      @jennw6809 4 роки тому +2

      In foodservice you don't rinse after the sanitizing dunk. When you keep it below 200 ppm like they mention it's not considered toxic. You could also use food grade peroxide, which breaks down into oxygen and water.

    • @anullhandle
      @anullhandle 4 роки тому +2

      A 200ppm bleach 60sec contact time is a no rinse sanatizer. As always 1st clean rinse then sanitize. If you do use soap make sure you get it off before sanitizing. Probably a good idea to at least use an opaque dunk tub and keep it in the shade or covered when not actively using. A sunny day can reduce chlorine by 90% in a few hours.

    I live in a desert where water is very precious, so I would favor a tub method where I could use the "used" water for other plants (except for chemical water). That being said, our production is so small (all our 5x5s fit it one 1020 per week). So I just wash mine in the sink with our regular dishes. But I do scrub well with a stiff brush and dry well.

    Next level, put the power washer nozzle in a fixed position. Velcro strap it so it stays spraying. Then move the trays around in the stream and then stack into sanitation tub(s).
    Next level after that would be to pass them under a UVC light in a box with slots on each end that the trays can slide through. Push one through one slot to push the one that's already in the light through the other slot on the other side of the box.

    So your soak "dunk" bath is that chlorine bleach or hydrogen peroxide? I'd like to do this with hydrogen peroxide but I can't figure out the recipe/ratio for water to 3% hydrogen peroxide (grocery store gallon jug). Do I need to pour the whole thing in a tough tote or can I dilute it with water? Anyone know the answer? I've read in several places the recommendation to spray bottle "spritz their trays with undiluted 3% hydrogen peroxide, but i can't find any mention of a "dunk" soaking bath solution using hydrogen peroxide.

    • @bryanmilne
      @bryanmilne 3 роки тому

      I wanted to update this... I found an article, or should say my friend found it and sent it to me, that had a chart showing what ratios to use. The quick and easy answer is 10 cups of hydrogen peroxide for 20 gallons of water. So I just dump a whole jug (equivalent to a little over 10 cups) of grocery store "chlorine free bleach" (hydrogen peroxide that is around 3% concentration, possibly up to 5%) into an almost full 27 gallon plastic tote (those black ones with the yellow lid from big box home stores) and whallah... hydrogen peroxide soaking bath for sanitizing trays that should work... maybe I'll make a video on this at some point in the future. Yet to really test this out (I'm new here) so proceed with caution and do your own experimenting to see what works for you. 🤙🌱⚡🐉

    There are several forms of "bleach". By "bleach" do you mean a sodium hypo chlorite product like "Clorox" or some form of Oxygen bleach? I just bought a bottle of the food grade hydrogen peroxide (w/out stabilizers) for the seed germination process and it wasn't cheap so I 'm guessing using that to sanitize trays isn't economical.

      We have a strainer that catches it and we showed that for home use purposes only. We wash ours outside with a power washer like we showed at the end... you can also just rinse it outside or if you have a ton of trays, fill the sink with some water and scrub it down.

    It's necessary to sanitize the tray after every microgreens cultivation.

    • @OnTheGrow
      @OnTheGrow  4 роки тому +2

      It really depends... Some people don't sanitize at all, others will do it after every batch, some will only do it when they've run into issues such as mold becoming a problem. We like to sanitize about every two-three grows but we will wash thoroughly and sun bathe our trays between each grow.

    • @mustafaagabeyoglu6995
      @mustafaagabeyoglu6995 3 роки тому +1

      Why would you sanitize after each cultivation? The answer will lead to the deficiencies in process/environment you grow. Sanitizing trays as precautionary measure will be the best answer. It all depends on your environment, past experience with sanity and level of quality you committed to your customers and to yourself
