    Your right about experimenting with locations. But I was hoping you would have discussed more about different types and discern which one in general like more sun vs those that are more shade loving. Maybe you could do a deeper dive in a later video

      Wesley, thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, without prior or real time testing, there really aren't any characteristics that can help us determine if an individual bromeliad in any genus will be hardy in unfiltered sunlight... there are some genera that grow in arid regions that seem to be very hardy, but most of the 'tank type' seem to defy being categorized. Really appreciate your input!

    I was hoping that you would address growing bromeliads indoors since most of us don't have the luxury of living in subtropical zones. I was hoping that you would explain how much artificial or natural light would be needed indoors to maintain the bright red, pink, and purple colors in the neoregelias.

      I haven't forgotten all of you that live in the temperate zones, stay tuned, there are some episodes coming up that will address how to grow your bromeliads indoors. I really appreciate your input and thanks so much for watching!

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge Rusty. I see all your videos from Spain. I encourage you to upload more because they are quite interesting and i recognize that i am learning a lot of things about how to care our bromeliads. I really ask you if one day you can share with your viewers a video related to the atmosphere humidity that bromeliads need. Perhaps, you have a watering system in your nursery and you can give us some tips with the aim of maintaining the perfect humidity conditions. Greetings from Spain:)

      Thank you so much for your comments, and your great suggestion for an upcoming vid... a short answer to humidity, with most of the 'tank type' broms, the water in the cup is the most important aspect, and atmospheric humidity is secondary in importance. I really appreciate your input, and love suggestions for future topics! Thanks for watching!

    You need to have viewers hit that like button and subscribe. The algorithms are tweaked to hunt for likes. The more likes, the more your channel will be spread by UA-cam algorithms.
    So at the end of each video or before content starts tell us and viewers to " smash thst like button and subscribe!"
    It works and that's what is required! You get algorithm hits even if someone just looks for 2 seconds!
    Great video mate, tks again!

    I have an oak tree that I'd like to attach some bromeliads to it. Do you a video showing us how we can that? I think we'll need more than zip ties. 😅

    • @islandbreezetropicals1276
      @islandbreezetropicals1276  Рік тому

      Zip ties can be joined together if length is a problem, but non-synthetic twine can also be employed and it will degrade in time. Here's a link to our tree install vid, Thanks for watching!

    I live in Atlanta, and I usually overwinter my broms in my garage. In the past I have used cfl bulbs and an led strip light with just minimal results. I grow bilbergia, aechmea,and neoregelia. My garage hovers right around 50f on the coldest day. Any suggestions on a grow light that will provide adequate light until I can get them back outside?

    • @islandbreezetropicals1276

      I use CFL's T8's and LED on the plant deck... I use full spectrum and as high lumens as I can find, but i try to get the light source as close to the plant as I can without burning the leaves, gradually decreasing the distance as I go. I also 'bundle' the lights to increase the coverage. Thanks a lot, I appreciate you watching!

    I have a question i recently mounted a few bromeliads on some palm trees and I’m not seeing any growth or movement. It’s been at least 3-4 months now is that normal?

      I generally see most arboreal installations in my latitude attach after a full growing season, ie. 8-10 months, but growth rates are varied depending upon specie or hybrid. And, if I attach them during our 'winter' months they grow very little until temperatures and light levels increase. Thanks so much for watching, really appreciate your input!

      Where I can't recommend any particular brand or source, a couple of things to look for would be to try to find full spectrum, and try to match the lumens to the distance between the lights and the plants... the further the distance the higher lumens you will need.

    Can they grow indoors using plant lights?

    • @islandbreezetropicals1276
      @islandbreezetropicals1276  Рік тому +1

      Yes, although because there are so many available I cant recommend any particular brand or source. I do recommend broad spectrum. The success of any supplemental lighting depends on it's intensity and the distance you will place it from your plants.

    How much light on a flat Earth in Tucson AZ

    Hi Rusty. Can you please be more specific here? Especially for growing broms indoors as houseplants year round? Mine have mostly lost their coloring, despite being beside the window in my apartment in Southern California. I have a tall plant stand that has 4 cryptanthus, 5 neos, 2 vrieseas, a billbergia, and a couple of others. How many lumens? How many total lights? How many hours per day must they be turned on? How many inches from the leaf must the light be located to avoid burning? How can we test the intensity (for example there are apps like Lux Light Meter Pro, but I'm not sure I believe the results are accurate)? Currently I am trying to use a 4-arm "gooseneck" style of allegedly full spectrum lights, but I see no difference (maybe because it's a cheapie from China??) @islandbreezetropicals1276

      To begin,
      i hope you will please accept my apology for such a late reply... I had planned to do a vid on artificial light after 'my break', so maybe this is the time, but to answer your question: until the vid:
      Choose the highest intensity you can find and adjust the distance accordingly.... put your hand underneath the light, if the distance of your hand from the light feels hot then your plant won't like it either. Adjust the distance accordingly. I always choose the highest intensity, and adjust everything else subsequent to that.

      @@islandbreezetropicals1276 thanks for responding, Rusty! I am looking forward to the new lighting video. I have watched most of your vids, as I am new to keeping bromeliads. I find your advice helpful! But it does feel like the content is geared a bit more toward outdoor brom care. It would be fantastic to see more advice that's focused on broms as houseplants for all the folks who aren't lucky enough to have our very own Tangle! Also, I hope that you will start recommending specific brands and the precise item name/product ID number. You always say that you're not going to mention the name (for example of the fertilizer that you use or the commercially available brom potting mix, etc) because you're not getting paid by that company. But it's precisely because those companies aren't sponsoring your channel that we want to hear what you honestly use yourself! As soon as influencers begin hocking products for cash, I don't trust a word they say. Your advice would be "pure" and that makes you even more credible. We are watching your channel to learn what to do, we don't want to then have to spend 20 hours researching fertilizers and reading hundreds of reviews! You're the expert so just tell us exactly what to buy and how to use it. The more specific you are, the more popular your channel will become ♥
