    Interesting comments. I never thought about that before. It it true that with VHF and UHF, the higher the better. I am hoping to put up a discone antenna within the next few months, and we will see what happens.

    This is a great video.. I live in the downtown of a city and I have only been in the hobby for about 6 months.. I don't have a base station yet, only portables.. I noticed that when I use anything but the rubber duck antenna for trunking i don't get much at all.. Some of the other antennas I have do work ok for conventional scanning but not for trunking.. This video explains it all..I have so many questions..

    You're absolutely correct, most portables don't have good enough front ends to deal with overload, inter mod, and other VHF/UHF interference issues.
