    I agree with you about not having any particular brand loyalty, except when it comes to cordless tools. When I started to transition away from air to electric I spend days looking at the different ecosystems and what was available, and settled on Milwaukee. Tools felt right, and perform as well as I need them to.
    Reason being is, and I see other techs in the shop dealing with this probably more often then they'd like, but nothing sucks more then a battery going flat and you don't have a spare for that tool. So I stick with them for my power tools. Everything else, what ever is going to work best and is at a price I like.

    I've been retired from professional type work for a little while now. What impresses me the most is how far the cordless stuff has come. There was a time when Makita made the best cordless stuff, but even then if it was a big job you needed like 4 batteries to get work done, I kid, mostly, because you need a couple for the job and a couple more charging for the next one. One part of being retired is I don't have to spend money on tools anymore. 😎

    • @eyellgeteven9928
      @eyellgeteven9928 3 роки тому

      I've been in the business for almost 40 yrs and I remember when cordless tools sucked. You only used them in situations where getting power to a location was nearly impossible...now I rarely use a corded tool, other than maybe some of the bigger augers and pipe threaders.

    • @Dsdcain
      @Dsdcain 3 роки тому

      @@eyellgeteven9928 Right?!? That's what I mean. You only used them when you were way too far from an outlet to get power. Mostly drills in my time. Not too many cordless saws back in the day. Either a small generator or maybe something you could run off a gasoline/diesel air compressor. 😎

    • @eyellgeteven9928
      @eyellgeteven9928 3 роки тому +1

      @@Dsdcain It's so nice to not string cords anymore...plus it saves so much space in the truck box not having to haul a bunch of cords around. But yeah, I remember only being able to drill a couple of holes before the old nicad batteries died, and the drills had very little torque...newer cordless drills will run forever on a charge and have enough power to twist right out of your hand if you're not careful. They have definitely come a LONG ways!

    Great video but voltage dictates output power but you never touched on amp hours. Amp hours are very important when you want to know how long your battery will last. That why when I buy cordless I always look at what the amp hours are on the batteries in the kit and choose what had good long lasting batteries.

  • @joshcowart2446
    @joshcowart2446 3 роки тому

    I had some dewalt and liked them but switched to Milwaukee due to a couple of tools I liked that they didn’t make. Mainly the m12 subcompact bandsaw and m18 hacksall. I stick to one brand because it’s easier to carry one set of batteries and chargers rather than 2 of everything. Also all our company propress, and uponor tools are Milwaukee (until they recently bought a hilti pro press) so it’s easier to all have the same batteries. However it is nice to see dewalt finally making plumbing tools line uponor and pro presses. The more the competition the better tools will be. It seems like Milwaukee and dewalt are trying to invade each other’s business. Dewalt is making more MEP tools and Milwaukee is making more wood working tools.

    it bears mentioning that the operating voltage on the DeWalt 20VMAX is 18 volts, same as the milwaukie M-18 they just measure the peak voltage instead of the working voltage. 45 minute charge times aren't really all that uncommon, either. the biggest thing when selecting a cordless tool brand is to choose the one that has the tools you want, and then stick with that brand, so you don't have to stock multiple chargers and battery types.
