As an industrial electrician, I must speak about this video. Please do not attempt to use this method to engrave metal. The voltage supply he is using is FAR too high for safety. It would only require a slight lapse of concentration with this device to electrocute yourself. It is not worth the risk. At least he's playing funeral music while demonstrating this.
I can't believe how simple and effective this metal painting method is! The video is easy to follow, and the result is amazing. I’ll try it right away! Thank you for sharing
I have to agree with others here, I've been an electrician for over 35 years and never seen anything so stupidly dangerous, this has the potential to get someone killed. By all means use it with perhaps 12v DC but never mains voltage.
I was great with this idea when I thought you were going to hook it to 9Volt battery. Even a 12Volt wet cell might have kept my interest but instead it was plugged into 240V mains (which we don't use for low amp circuits in the U.S.). This has sudden death written all over it!
Exactly , you are holding each side of the mains with each hand so if you manage to get a shock it will be right across your heart. I've played with putting current through graphite pencils as a kid and I can guarantee that that center of the pencil is going to get red hot and start charring the wooden pencil. I don't recommend anybody do this click bait booby trap.

Would this even work as the negative is not connected to the plug so its not a complete circuit dont think you would get any power for the mains without both the live and the return wire to complete the circuit without a circuit the electricity cant flow out the plug
No it would work… among other things… like teach you how to fly instantaneously and play the harp! Remember the negative wire (black) Is attached to a roach clip instead of to the pole of the plug. That roach clip is supposed to clamp down on the knife blade. The positive wire (red) is still attached to the pole of the plug. Then he has another negative wire that runs out of the pole on the plug which is connected to the pencil lead. You plug the thing in, you clip the roach clip to the knife blade,… And when you touch the pencil lead to the knife blade - three things will happen simultaneously as it closes the circuit. 1) The lightbulb will come on 2) The pencil lead will begin engraving into the knife blade 3) You electrocute the living shiitakes out of yourself because you were bearing down on the knife blade with your hand in order to hold it steady.
