    8:20 that's a either lie or conformation bias
    Also I don't think normalizing girls in gaming will help to get rid of toxicity. You yourslf said that gaming community is very toxic but groups inside it are normalized already.
    I don't know what needs to happen but I don't think that problem will ever go away
    9:29 that's a another lie

    The toxicity regarding regular game play will always be there. It’s typical of any esport, I think. The SEXISM, however, obviously needs to change. Real ones know there’s a HUGE difference in criticizing (dare I say raging on) your random for bad plays VERSUS raging about WHO THEY ARE. You can always get better as a player. I can’t change who I am.
    I remember it being 2014 and high school me, playing on a laptop, wondered if the CS women’s scene could coed at the highest level. It felt like everyone made fun of it. The only way to really get your foot in was full female teams. 10 years later and finally, we are having serious conversation about it. Coed/mixed has always been the dream. What a time to be alive 🥹
    Thank you for the coverage on this. It’s only up from here!!!!

      Problem right now is you can't even recruit female cs players for main level teams if that is where the skill level is at for a coed team because they can just join impact female teams at similar level but get paid instead. I would give female players a tryout for my team but none even apply.

    • @Starlene_GG
      @Starlene_GG 17 днів тому +1

      @ I get that, honestly I see it as the difference in opportunity. Like to be coed is a great opportunity for growth and fe teams are indeed an okay-ish monetary opportunity. The payout for those tourneys is not as big as it seems. It’s just the system unfortunately and we can’t fault the gals for trying to make a living, too! :(

    • @themostfowl
      @themostfowl 17 днів тому +2

      @ I just wish one of them would take that step and try and climb without anchoring themselves to an Impact team. They all talk about it but none of them actually do it. Show you are good enough and join a coed team and breakthrough.

    I think what this completely misses is how different the male sphere is to a woman.
    Men and Women generally tend to treat social interactions quite differently.
    While Men often really dig at each other directly to each others face in harsh ways, this is not often if at all the case for women.
    Many general "comfort" ways Men treat each other do not work Men to women or Women to Men.
    And i think many people ignore that here.
    Does sexism in gaming exist? Absolutely. Not even an argument.
    But the "sexism" that often gets mentioned (in my opinion) isn't sexism as much as it is just general toxic behaviour.
    The only reason why this sexist toxicity exists, is because it works. It gets under your skin.
    ANY guy that takes a proper look at how they are being trash talked, toxic, etc. can see its a lot of "throwing stuff at the wall and see what sticks" kind of insults.
    And maaaaaaannyyyy people who been gaming and are smart enough, often give the advice to "stay above it" and "don't let it get to you" which is some of the best things to do in general in toxic situations.
    But even then people that have the patience of a god can still have those days where they get mad, snap, etc.
    But saying Men have an inherent Support because they are Men is a complete mischaracterization.
    Like many other parts in Life but ESPECIALLY in Esport, Men are disposable.
    There is no "We should give this kid a chance to proof himself", he either is already good or he doesn't make the cut simply as that.
    And furthermore, if you don't keep growing with the Sphere, the Meta, the raw skills, you are done.
    Your career is OVER.
    I do think there needs to be a conscious effort to create and support more women spaces, but to see a male sport with only a 9% female viewership (that definitely wasn't there from the beginning), that drops male talents left and right and where getting into Tier1 is basically impossible unless you are LUCKY, CRACKED AT THE GAME and all around have the opportunity to even get somewhere into that sphere that 99% of People in general never get and think it's just a Sexism issue is doing the general sexism a disfavor by extrapolating the wrong issues.
    Furthermore saying that it's not a safe space for little girls also is CRAZY in my opinion, when its not even a safe space for boys, LET ALONE EVEN MEANT FOR KIDS.
    While we can argue about what game has which audience and for who it was aimed for.
    There is a CLEAR and stark contrast between something like Fortnite that is aimed and caters to Kids VS. something like CS or COD that always has been a sphere meant for adults.
    Do kids still play these games? Absolutely. But that's on the Parents not the companies.
    That's like saying "18+ Horror movies should be a safe space for kids", its just plainly puzzling.
    And as someone who group up in gaming, If you want to push for more understanding and support, I would 1000000% use the fact that if a KID all-around opens their mouth in a toxic video game community, they get absolutely dogpiled.
    They would be the most understanding.
    While it won't be a "Fixed in 2030" thing, it would definitely be a really smart and good move to get the understanding of young boys, who will have the power to dictate the mood of their play spaces in the future, to join a concise effort to make gaming better.
    They from everyone meet the whole "just because X" more than normal guys do, they understand how it feels to open your mouth and just by one sound be completely disregarded for the whole match.
    They know how frustrating it can be to be reduced to that.
    And while most guys went through that if they used voice chat in games anywhere in the last 15 years.
    There is a difference between a grown man who got accustomed to it and also can't be ridiculed for the same stuff VS a Kid that is still actively struggling with that.
    I personally think if we really want to do a good and concrete job by pushing the sphere, we need to be honest with ourselves and not label things for different things, just because they sound similar but are actually something else.
    It does a disservice to everyone.
    And this is not just a Video Games thing, it happens in many places nowadays.
    And also If we want to create a good space for women in gaming, it can not be the same as the Men's unless the Men sphere grows better for Men too.
    I mean you shouldn't wanna join a broken system and be treated with the same BS like the people in it are, you should strive to make it better for everyone, because then it's not a broken system that just happens to have women in it, but a better space for everyone to enjoy and be in.
    Also that being said, you will not make friends trying to push into everyone's OWN safe space.
    Men and Women BOTH need their own places where they can retract from the other gender and be around the same people for many different reasons.
    Is gaming then meant as a safe space just for Men? No. Definitely not.
    But imagine one of the only ways you can stand today's society gets broken into and asked for everyone to change or be called a bigot and ostracized by some of the very people you try to escape from without giving any options to go somewhere else, let alone wanting to go somewhere else.
    (And yes, there is a sizeable chunk of Men who use Video Games to escape from Women for a while)
    It's not just a simple "everyone should be nicer" issue, this is a general society issue and can't be taken that carefree.
    And to fail to address that also just makes the improvements harder.
    TL;DR:
    - Esport has issues all around and needs to improve
    - Not all "Sexism" is real sexism but just toxic behaviour using sexism as a vice to get under your skin
    - Some of the People that strive for Safe Spaces for Women completely mischaracterize the "safe spaces" and what it actually is for Men
    - The wrong people get targeted and there should be a more effort to reach younger people
    - ADULT video games are NOT a Safe space for KIDS.
    - We need to do better as a Society
    - And we need more fair and comfort places for Women + figuring a proper way out how we should treat each other while also respecting each others differences (we should find a compromise not an Order to be nice).

      @slimynaut I agree. Men are inherently more aggressive. And I say this as a religious person. All these atheist (not talking about you) ignore basic evolution. Animals, man included need aggression.its NEEDED. Just because we don't live in that survival of the fittest situation anymore doesn't mean we just delete that aggression. We still have it and still use it for wars.its one of the components as to why men are better there than woman.
      So yes seperate men and women.

      @putent9623 10 днів тому +1

      I dont understand why men and women need to share spaces... do we force women to share makeup guru spaces with men?... what about all those drama shows and series? Imagine if we forced male creators into women spaces artificially, it sounds like bs to me.

    • @putent9623
      @putent9623 10 днів тому

      Everything you said is a fact. Literally.
      Only thing that wasn't is being "nicer". Maybe 6 months ago I would agree but 2 things. Nice is subjective. We don't want a UK scenario where people get punished for subjective speech and tone policing. If you had a bad day and were a little bit aggressive (no insultes tho), you could get banned.
      The other thing is that some people play videos games precisely to express aggression. Think about it logically, we all have aggression that needs to be release somewhere, if you wake up at 7am, go to work at 9am come back by 5pm, go for a walk shower eat then watch youtube videos or work more then sleep and repeat, where exactly do you release this aggression? It's either video games or doing a martial art. So when you take video games away because you want something subjective like more "niceness" you are doing a disservice.

    • @putent9623
      @putent9623 10 днів тому

      Also we can't compromise in the same space.
      Imagine Instead of giving men and women seperate sports and divisions we just outright mixed them and forced compromises. It would be good for women, but always, and I mean always, bad for men (generally of course).
      Like using gaming as an example now, the space is already mixed in terms of entering. Women can put in the hours just like men. There is no barring. So the only compromise I can think of is literally DEI where you force remove the men from the top ranks.

  • @Pillowfight123

    A lot of over analyzing the situation here. Running a female cs team just isn't profitable. This is a business like any other business, not charity work. Of course nothing is stopping the female teams to play the open circuit more but since even the absolute best female teams consistently lose to tier 3/4 amateur teams that no one has ever hear of, it's hard to take the pro female teams seriously. When it comes to creating a "safe space" for female gamers, there's the good saying that men act mean but do not really mean it whereas women act nice but do not really mean it. Sure there's toxicity and other issues in gaming, goes without saying, but a lot of these issues I see being brought up are just due to men's different way of communicating. Playing video games is about blowing off steam for most people and if you cannot stand a little bit of sh*t talk here and there, I recommend taking up knitting.

  • @Miguel-wo5qy
    @Miguel-wo5qy 15 днів тому +10

    There is no "male scene". There is a professional scene dominated by men. The fact that women have a separate scene is actually a privilege because, given their abilities, most of them wouldn't even be able to take part, let alone have prize money and salaries.
    I personally know players who tried to become professionals and simply had to abandon their dream because at the age of 23 they didn't receive enough financial support to stay in the game and had to start their professional lives away from esports. It's not easy for anyone to enter this world, it's only a small percentage and the female scene, even if it doesn't receive the support that tier 1-2 ‘male’ scene receives, is already more than the majority of lower tier male players will receive in a lifetime. And if you put a tier 4 male team against a tier 1 female team, the difference will still be significant in favor of males.
    There's the difficulty of being sidelined for being women before they can prove their talent, 100%. But the road is complicated for everyone and having a separate scenario is already a privilege. Still demand more as if what they get is too little is just pure privileged bubble nonsense.

    IMP Valkyries currently 0-2 in ESEA MAIN, why should they be invited to bigger tournaments? There are hundreds of male teams that are better than them and yet they still get an invite to BLAST tournaments. possibly even MAJOR soon. New valve ranking system is ass.
    Edit: also 99% of those main and advanced teams have no support at all just love for the game and grinding for success.

    • @sanseleton9179
      @sanseleton9179 3 дні тому

      Precisely this, most CS punters DO NOT have their ear to the ground and couldn't tell you anything about how teams are performing in ESEA. The fact of the matter is that no female team has ever gotten to ESL Pro League, I don't think any of them have been higher than main, and any team that has scrimmed against them could tell you how utterly mediocre they are. They don't deserve open qualifiers to a closed circuit that gets them VRS points purely because of what's between their legs.

    I think fe teams should also participate in open qualifying tournaments like other dudes to prove themselves they have the skill, instead of inviting them to tier 1 events where of course people will say that it is unjustified. I support female cs as much as the next guy, but I want them to succeed by proving themselves like all the other teams.
    And in terms of the Navi vs Imperial fe game, it was obvious that Navi were not utilizing any strats that they would use against other teams, and based on pure firepower which Imperial fe can win duels. But still they are no where near the likes of tier 1 cs, but I hope to see fe teams against the likes of CCT tournaments.

    Greak video thanks for the update!
    I do have some criticisms though. There is no "male" major. When Valve came up with these tournaments they were just for players. I also dont think you can cite any CS2 or CSGO major rule handbook where it says "female players not allowed". When the RMRs existed famously everybody could qualify through open qualifiers. Given it was a sh*tshow for scheduling etc but you and 4 of your friends could get to the major in theory. Did the FE CS-teams participate? If yes, and they didnt make it then thats that. You could qualify for majors when skilled enough at the game as Passion UA showed last major.
    Next thing is im playing faceit (2k elo 2,5k matches) regularly and over the last 18 months I have seen a lot more women and none of them got flamed in game. Some were even vocal and called the game and everyone else followed in Solo Q. As long as you give info and try nobody gave a shit. I know thats just anecdotal but so are all the other stories you hear in this regard.
    The last thing is that FE-teams have been "spoiled" by getting their own circuit while an open circuit existed out there and they were able to earn money which men of similar skill level could not (having their own closed of league). That circuit and these tournaments are the only ones that discriminated by sex/gender. I think that female teams could break through and get to A-, and S-Tier tournaments if they put in the hours and now they have a great opportunity to join the Tier 2/3 grind to tournaments.

    • @putent9623
      @putent9623 10 днів тому

      Well said.
      Anecdotally as a new valorant player I've only ever heard of guys being toxic to eachother. For the most part they were all nice, even to the females. No weird comments. No toxicity. It was just chill ash. It is indeed anecdotal but what these women say as well is anecdotal too so it's literally equal.
      Also you made a good point. So basically there is an open circuit and closed. The closed women get in and get money, but then on top of that exclusive money they can also go in and take money from the open circuit where men have their only chance of competing. That is sexist by definition.
      Fortnite had a PC fncs and console fncs. PC was open for everyone and console was only open for console players, so what PC players did was basically the T1 pros or S tier would win prizes for the PC one then get a console and play that one too and usually all got top 10s. This is the reverse of the situation but theoretically if the women got good enough they could do this to the men which is unfair.

    The issue is 100% culture related. A lot of gamers haven't grown out of the idea of gaming being a "boys only" club, so they make it their mission to be shit heads to women in the gaming scene as they see them as a threat to the hobby. No girl is going to want to even touch the game if their first experience playing or watching a female player is constantly being flirted with or being verbally harassed while their gameplay is sabotaged with friendly fire, revealing positions, and match abandonment simply because "haha women," then these men wonder why women hate them and gaming as a whole while denying that any of this even happens. At a pro level, they basically have to deal with 10x the verbal and mental abuse the men already face making the path to pro way harder than it has to be. It only creates a negative feedback loop for women that are genuinely interested in esports.
    Women's esports leagues are basically the only option at the moment if people want to see women compete at all while hoping they can play within the more popular open circuits one day. It gives them a chance to properly grow without having to deal with the stupid crap most male gamers are oblivious to. VCT Game Changers and the recent match with NAVI and Imperial Fe is proof that it's working whether people want to admit it or not. The fact that Valve hasn't even mentioned women's CS in over a decade, let alone actually attempt to support it is of their biggest embarrassments and missed opportunities.

      So it's anecdotal evidence vs anecdotal evidence. I don't see why we default on either of them. Should get empirical data and prove your statement.

    One thing I see no one talk about is that ESL Impact as a product is very lacking. It is objectively the worst tournament compared to all other big tournaments, not because of the talent or players. Mainly because of the terrible and outdated format and schedule. bo1 into bo1 into playoffs as a ´major' tournament within the scene makes 0 sense. On top of that most orgs entering the scene cant play Impact because its only 8 teams so their chances are very slim to even get some screentime at all on stage. Also something I hate about impact tournaments is that they have set schedules, like what do you mean I have to wait 45 minutes for the next desk segment and then another 15 for the match? Understandably many people just stop watching or only watch their fav team. Its not a start to finish entertaining product like the big male tournaments are. Lastly, the vibe is very centured around the whole thing being a girls thing, twitch chat is overmoderated to the point people stop typing, all music is like girl power songs, like we get it, girls are fighting against the odds here but the product has to be entertaining and hype at some point to gain interest. You cant make a sucesful tournament out of something thats not hype.
