First got to learn about the Settle Carlisle in 1964 when the school I attended rented Ormside Station as a hostel for us kids to enjoy the stunning landscapes of the lakes. Being a young train spotter it was a double bonus for me. Happy days
My pleasure. It’s a great adventure to share these stories with you and the community. We are blessed with such great history and a landscape to match.
Really enjoyed this Gordon 👍i never knew the kilns existed...as usual well informative and well made....brilliant footage of the blue Pullman 🙂....I can’t wait for you’re next episode now 👍
Amazing video and incredible history of the lost railways in the North of England. Including that viaduct. And can’t forget the Midland Blue Pullman HST that went passed as well.
Great video, Gordon. New subscriber here. Further to the Hoffman kiln shown there is the remains of one in my home town of Ilkeston in Derbyshire. It was used by the Oakwell Brick Co for firing bricks. It is a listed building as far as I know, but the council are sadly not interested in making it safe or repairing it.
Great Video indeed, the shop at Settle Station is brilliant, popped in their myself and those kilns looks awesome, also at Settle here is a nice Fish and Chip shop there as well and remember having it in the waiting room at Settle Station while waiting for my next train.
Absolutely brilliant! Well done you. Your production quality and content have come on leaps and bounds. Really pleased for you. It’s about time Channel 4 discovered you and offered you a series. Fingers crossed it will happen soon 🤞
Short and oh so sweet amazing place Settle weve walked around the town and area including giggleswick but didnt know about the lime kilns Gordon so thanks once again really informative video...we, ll be sure to add it to our to - do list..regards Mate Frank & Lee.....
Fantastic that you caught The HST Midland Blue Pullman in the scene of the shot as well, some really fascinating railway items highlighted in this, like the bits of rail joint tracks showing grittness and the overlooks of the quarry section from the skyline:)
If you find yourself on Settle station with a loaded touring bike as I once did and need to cross the tracks. Ask the staff and they will escort you across a ground level crossing; much easier than lugging your heavy rig over that bridge.

Didn't know Settle had so much history. That's amazing Gordon. Well put together video.
The foot bridge compliments the station it very elegant and looks period correct to my eyes glad it was not scrapped it would have been a crime.
Fantastic again buddy 👏
Another great video , thank you
amazing video gordon
I'm so glad this line didn't go the same way as so many lines did in the 1960s, I know it came very close
Too true. Originally they planned to only keep the line open as far as Horton-in-Ribblesdale quarry about 5 miles N of Settle!
Very good 🙂🚂🚂🚂
brilliant again well done never mind youtube should be tv time for you.
