The Cable vs Hydraulic clutch debate is real. Not sure why. I own both. Both work flawlessly. If someone is a fairly new rider and all they’ve ever known was hydraulic, I can understand their hesitation to a degree. But this wild debate... blah blah blah. Both work. Who cares?! Thanks for keeping it real! Great vid!
IDK why people say that the hydraulic clutch is easier to pull, while it is consistent and you do not have to adjust it, it is anything but easy to pull, cable clutches are hands down easier and you can hold them for way longer before your hand gets worn out.
Agreed I own both and like the cable better. As far as adjustments are concerned I rode my last RK over 80,000 miles and probably adjusted the clutch five times total. Not a big deal.
Loving the videos man, watching with my kids when I collect them. He’s learning so much. I’ve a local HD’s here in Waterford Ireland and they are so nice when we visited it seems the same where you live man ✊🏻🏍
I rode the 2021 114 special and I liked it....once its woken up with a stage one and it’s running properly, I think most would like it.. ..Harley did good this year, they took the bikes up a notch. I rarely do stop and go traffic, so the clutch isn’t an issue with me and as always, all you have to do is ask for the heel shifter ...good job Tall
Great review, Tall!! Keep 'em coming!! From the frozen tundra in Iowa. -14 degrees and covered with snow and ice. I'm looking forward to spring and the riding season to show off my Custom Dynamics upgrades.
man i have seen u in bootlegger numerous times and just recently figured out you had this channel since i now ride harkey lol. new sub. see u saturday but need to know the ride route
The route may change due to weather but this is the proposed route. With the addition to taking Line Springs over to Metcalf bottoms. Hope to see you there Saturday. ua-cam.com/video/J6xN-57v16I/v-deo.html
Hey Tall, I’m a front lower fairing guy also, maybe the MOCO will come up with something or the aftermarket. Good review, I’m still waiting for a chassis change before I let my 14 SGS go
Tall, Love the videos! Appreciate them as it keeps us looking forward to better riding weather! Very entertaining!! With the cable clutch, did you find the pull easier, about the same or harder than the hydraulic? Ride safe!! and keep em coming! Always look forward to your videos!
Well, being a guy growing up with clutch cable in wire, or hydro. It's all in the adjustment or lever type. Wire clutch adjustments aren't any big deal for me.
Hi Tall. You won’t appreciate the cable clutch until you try some low speed maneuvers. Try making U turns,or slow riding, and that’s where the cable clutch shines
I have a 2017 Road glide and I changed out my stock clutch with one from “soft brake”.The guy takes original clutch levers and bends them to take away the long reach and tuff pull in from stock. After installing his, way better ride less hand fatigue.
i like it ..... but imma keep my 2019 Ultra Limited .....those tank badges look to be from an 80s model that they already had years ago ....nice bike and love the videos ... good job Tall....
I like that they went back to chrome on that bike. I bought a 2020 Standard because I didn't want a murdered out black bike. I'm with you, I don't care about the clutch, I like the hydro just fine. The console is new and something needed to change, but I still like the center fill. I have the flush mount fill on my Softail though, so a good option for thise that don't like the cap there and you pointed that out. Thanks for the vid.
That is the exact bike I bought, just got it and being winter time it will probably sit for a couple months. My old Street Glide had the hydraulic clutch and I was fine with it. The cable clutch engages sooner and more gradually. I’m sure it will be fine, just take a little time to get used too.
Not a fan of the low profile console (may grow on me)and the lone tank cap. Should’ve added a dud cap on the left to even it out. The tank badge looks way better in person. Love the content
I love the new center console and I would switch out the gas cap for the low profile flush cap. Part of the reason I’m buying a touring bike. Oh and I like the snake venom color.
Only thing I don’t like about it is the small crash bar/engine guard. Also Tall what’s the name of those gloves you’re wearing? Is there a link for them?
Tall: Great video as usual, keep up the good work. A few questions.... If your current bike disappeared tomorrow, would you replace it with a Street or Road Glide? I really like the looks of both and am having a tough time deciding between the two. What camera are you using to record these videos? Thanks
Only reason they went back to that wasn't because customers demand it was because they couldn't fix the oil transfer situation after many different recall kits was made , so the decided to go back to that kind of clutch because using this system they did not have a issue , I'm more than happy with my self adjusted hydraulic clutch
For those with hydraulic clutches. I switched out my factory clutch and front brake levers for Oberon's adjustable levers on my 2017 SGS. I'm running a 128 engine and it makes it so much easier to use without the tension. Cuts the tension in half.
Question Tall, can you use the rds as a park brake if you park on a steep incline? wondered if it works if you shut the bike off! Thanks for the video!
My first impression seeing the Specials I did not care for the gas cap movement, but someone else recommended the flush mount cap and I think that improve the side profile look so much better, still seems bit off balance not having the second one like the bikes with the Speedometer on the console though. I saw video with a 42 Harley form WWII and on those the left half of the tank was the oil tank and the oil fill cap, so made so much more sense why they had the fake cap. Have fun and be safe.
I love my hard lowers on my old tall engine guard. Riding up North my lowers prove helpful. Open and close at will. Of course my Harley is 16 years older than that one. Lol. I also prefer a cable clutch, guess I'm done with people asking why my Indian doesn't have a hydraulic clutch like the Harley. Lol. The fuel cap doesn't bother me, I'm interested to see the paint.
That's what I bought... 21 FLHXS in Black Jack Metallic... added OEM style passing lights and L.E.D. turn signals front and rear... ok and I did also put a set of slip on mufflers on it....
I like the looks of these new engine guards too, but I’m like you about being able to have the lower fairings. I have a Limited with a quick release for my tour pack. So, I have the lowers which came stock. I’m so use to them during the colder weather. I haven’t ridden without lowers in 3 years. LOL! I’m spoiled like that, I guess. And, like you, I prefer the chrome. I always have.
I just got a new RGS and the first thing I noticed while using the GPS on the HD screen is it constantly cuts out my music from Spotify. It gets REALLY annoying. The hill assist is awesome!
My sense of the hydraulic vs cable clutch is that my 2020 hydraulic clutch is easier to operate than the 2021 clutches that I have tried at the dealership. That said, I did install an aftermarket clutch lever that moved the friction zone about 1" closer which really helps when doing slow riding U-turns and tight circles. Clearly the cable clutch can be easily adjusted to almost any friction zone preference which is a big plus.
Was the old Street glide a locking gas cap? If so that's a downgrade. New engine guard doesn't allow for the clip in lowers which are handy for poor weather touring.
It’s difficult when you do handlebars, exhaust, other trinkets to start all over on a new bike. Thanks sucks mine is 17 ultra classic, tour pak removal, please do your sounds part 2 video, and I added 5x7 speaker lids. Shopping around for sounds, thanks 🙏 stay blessed much appreciated 🇵🇷🥊
I purchased a 2021 Street Glide special. The clutch on mine needs to be adjusted. My 2003 Low Rider clutch was much easier to use. My hubby has a Ultra Glide Special and his clutch lever is much easier to pull in. I think they made mine tight in the HD factory. Need to get this changed.
Travelling Tall, I love your videos! I only wish you were a 5'2" female showing a demonstration on how to videos ;-) Please do a video on "Howo-to-do-s" on the RDS! I bought a 2020 and would love to see how the options of RDS works for us guys and gals. Forget the manual... we have YOU!
The wheels are the only thing I like about this bike. I have a 2016 Road Glide Special and I don't mind the hydraulic clutch. Also, if you want to save some money, you can sand off the clear coat off the stock lowers and polish them up with aluminum polish. It takes time, but it will look just as good as chrome.
May June July august sept October maybe even April if weather is good I live in upstate ny 150 inches of snow each year lol buy some clothes stop waiting for 60 degrees old man lol
I love it and I myself dont mind the cable or hydraulic clutch it's a personal preference between new and long time riders love the styling without the CVO price tag
The H-D hydraulic clutch can be improved tremendously if you add the AIM LF V3 LIGHT FORCE + VP SDR COMBO KIT. I bought mine from Fuel Moto for my (no longer stock) ‘18 RGS.
I’m Mew to the channel Bruh I don’t have a Harley and I’ve never owned one but it looks really comfortable I’m still riding my 2002 Zuki Intruder 1500 what difference should I Look for on a Harley??? Besides the prices!
I bought the 2021 Road Glide CVO. I GOT rid of my 2016 Road Glide Ultra. I truly miss my lowers I catch allot of with now and rain. I ride in all types of weather and I hate this lower bar.
I really couldn't tell the difference between hydraulic and cable clutch. One didn't seem any different from the other. What really made a difference for my hydraulic clutch was adding the softbrake reduced reach lever!
The New Cable Clutch. New black paint for 21. That's some funny stuff right there...I don't car who you are. Reminiscent of Harley in the 70's. New twist grip for 1971. Leno does a bit about it, funny stuff. I do like that Hill Hold. Pay attention Indian.
never liked the feel of the hydraulic one the feel and control of the friction point just seems to be easier to find with a cable. Tall saw your video on the stereo change Cpl days ago unfortunately the limited cvo did not get the Rockford Fosgate upgrade like the road glide cvo and street glide cvo got. You can get the system added both amps go in back of bags rather than under the truck were the boom amp is.
The side mounted gas cap will be a problem if you don’t pay close attention to filling up the tank. No over flow area like in the previous models. Having owned two Road Kings I have spilled gas all over the tank. Cable clutch will need adjustment every service. Backward technology. I just bought a new year end 2020 SGS in vivid black. I too like the bigger highway bars in front. I use soft lowers. BTW what headlight are you using.
The gas overflow is only a problem if you stick the handle in and lock it and don’t pay attention to your bike. I hold the handle and watch it the whole time I’m filling up and pump it myself no handle lock. Never spilled all over my tank.
Yeah, for cold weather riding, the soft lowers come in handy and work well. Doesn't look feasible with the lower engine guards. Guess, invest in some really good heated riding pants. I actually talked to a Tennessee State Motorcycle trooper about winter gear. He is working a 8 eight hours shift and using lined chaps from Colorado Chaps. A cheaper alternative to heated riding pants.
This sucks. I’m buying a new bike in less than a week. I thought I wanted a Road Glide now I’m starting to think street glide. Problem is I can’t ride either due to piles of snow, ice, and sub zero temps. Getting a little nervous about spending the money.
I think only the newer Harley Davidson riders have an issue with the clutch cable. Us old school riders don't have an issue with it at all. We have used cable clutch forever.
You tall so you have big hands. If you’re short your gonna have a longer reach. That’s the issue for me I’m 5’8” it kill my hand in traffic.. I had the cable clutch in the 2010 road king classic, the sweet spot is closer to the grip with the cable.
You could get it on the 20, but it wasn’t standard ... I didn’t know they made it standard on the 21, I missed that part of the video.... it’s cool they did....
On the cable clutch set-up.....i look for HD to offer a hydraulic clutch next year, or the year after as an option. For more money, of course! The gas filler being placed to the side of the dash. I like it. Im on my 3rd one on the dash, and DO NOT like that arrangement. If the cover tilted forward, instead of back, maybe i would like it better. It seems youre always reaching around the cover with the gas nozzle. They SHOULD have put a dummy cap on the left side to look symmetrical (IMHO) like my Road King had. Id rather have the bigger CRASH BAR like my '14 streetglide had, just so lowers could be mounted. I always want a heel shifter. Some dont. Personal preference. Again, its an option, to charge more money.
Hello Tall, my name is Garcia Holloway I ride 2018 Road Glide Special, first let me say that I really enjoy your videos they are great. Im going to tell about a product that will change your life when it comes to riding your HD there is a company called Rack and Pull Industries the owners name is Al he discovered what causes Harley Touring bikes to shake, wobble on sweeping turns and at high speed on the freeway. When I was installing my Legend Revo-A rear shocks I noticed after I installed the right shock first the left side bolts did not line up I had to raise the rear wheel to get the bolts in hmmm? at the time i did not think to much about it a year later I started to get wobbling on freeway sweeping turns.By the way I am a Porsche master technician anyway and I am extremely anal when it comes to performance of all my toys,so I did some research on this HD wobble issue and why HD tourings do not handle that well ?turns out that 90 percent of HD touring bikes have this issue most guys just say thats just how Harleys are.The reason the left shock did not line up with the bolt holes which was about a 1/4 of an inch off is that the engine is leaning to the left.which makes the swing arm dip to the left causing your wheels to be out of alignment. Al came up with and adjustable upper front engine brace which I purchased and installed. After following the simple instructions which moved the engine over just a 1/4 inch to the right. The distance between left and right shock mounting locations was equal.Went out for a ride and I was amazed at how planted my bike felt no more wobble on familiar turns just unbelievable ! I have told all my riding buddies about this product 4 of them have purchased the adjustable engine brace. All I can say is you have to try it you will really love your bike after! Check out the videos on you tube Rack and Pull Industries. OK good luck and ride safe bra.
How does a suspension feel on the 2021 Harley-Davidson compared to yours do you feel it's better or still the same. I would prefer the clutch cable over the hydraulic I'm just the old school guy. good video🔥🏍🏍🏍🏍
Clutch cables is going to make it complicated to upgrade your bars. Harley knew wat they where doing wen they did that. It’s going to cost you some more more money
The Cable vs Hydraulic clutch debate is real. Not sure why. I own both. Both work flawlessly. If someone is a fairly new rider and all they’ve ever known was hydraulic, I can understand their hesitation to a degree. But this wild debate... blah blah blah. Both work. Who cares?! IDK why people say that the hydraulic clutch is easier to pull, while it is consistent and you do not have to adjust it, it is anything but easy to pull, cable clutches are hands down easier and you can hold them for way longer before your hand gets worn out.
That’s true, stop and go at the Daytona rally will be a lot easier too lol
Agreed I own both and like the cable better. As far as adjustments are concerned I rode my last RK over 80,000 miles and probably adjusted the clutch five times total. Not a big deal.
Hydraulic is easier to hold for a period of time
I traded my 2009 Road Glide for my 2021 Road Glide Standard. I bought it on January 9, 2021. A week before the Premiere. I love it!
Love watching your Videos. From Corpus Christi TX. Keep them up Tall.
Thanks for watching!
Loving the videos man, watching with my kids when I collect them. He’s learning so much. I’ve a local HD’s here in Waterford Ireland and they are so nice when we visited it seems the same where you live man ✊🏻🏍
Love the two-tone and chrome option on the Specials this year! Nice job Tall!

Another helpful vid Tall. Like the set-up of that SGS. Keep up the good work. Best channel in this space.
Great review, Tall!! Keep 'em coming!! From the frozen tundra in Iowa. -14 degrees and covered with snow and ice. I'm looking forward to spring and the riding season to show off my Custom Dynamics upgrades.
Thanks for the info. I take ownership of my 2021 road glide on Saturday which will have new clutch. It’s good to know there’re no issues with it.

@@TravelingTall thx so much! finally saw this ;) figured if i tagged enough of ur vids we would connect - safe travels
First time viewer. I like the cable mechanical feel of the old bikes. Does it bring that feel back?
I have the lower chaps for cold days that go over the
"engine guards" they are so worth keeping in the saddle bags huge help on cold day's
2020 SGS
Hey Tall, I’m a front lower fairing guy also, maybe the MOCO will come up with something or the aftermarket. Good review, I’m still waiting for a chassis change before I let my 14 SGS go

I saw one at the dealer today, it looked really nice. The salesman said the same thing about putting a flush cap on it.

The dash grew on me, I felt the same way at first.
I love the new center console and I would switch out the gas cap for the low profile flush cap. Part of the reason I’m buying a touring bike. Oh and I like the snake venom color.
I agree with Dewiz. The lone cap is lame. You’re right about a flush cap (black)
70 dollars stick one on if your worried about it .
I ride “THE OTHER BIKE” RG... but the Street Glide is a fantastic bike as well awesome video Tall thanks for sharing.
Tall: Question: would you still go with a SG standard or, spend more for the special? If you bought a 2021? Worth the extra?
Only thing I don’t like about it is the small crash bar/engine guard. Also Tall what’s the name of those gloves you’re wearing? Is there a link for them?
Good video TT there’s some things I like and some things I don’t like thanks for keeping it real
Thanks for watching Talking Rock
Tall: Great video as usual, keep up the good work. A few questions....
If your current bike disappeared tomorrow, would you replace it with a Street or Road Glide? I really like the looks of both and am having a tough time deciding between the two.
What camera are you using to record these videos?
Thanks
Aloha Tall - I appreciate you test riding my next bike 😄🏍
Thanks for the videos. Really appreciate the info. Looking at a SG, currently have a 2018 fatboy (which i enjoy) but the SG is really nice.
Ride Safe!
Thank Y'all, good review as always very informative. Stay safe.
All you guys say new badge but its off the 87 but love what your doing bro keep up the awesome work
Thank you Brian. Yes I meant new for the Street Glides.
Cable clutch was a good idea to go back to. Finally chrome on a special and in a 114. Getting there Harley Davidson. 👍
Only reason they went back to that wasn't because customers demand it was because they couldn't fix the oil transfer situation after many different recall kits was made , so the decided to go back to that kind of clutch because using this system they did not have a issue , I'm more than happy with my self adjusted hydraulic clutch
Almost has a good as the chieftain almost
Sorry Tall, I watched so many videos on the clutch
I see you already mention clutch pull.
Ride Safe!
For those with hydraulic clutches. I switched out my factory clutch and front brake levers for Oberon's adjustable levers on my 2017 SGS. I'm running a 128 engine and it makes it so much easier to use without the tension. Cuts the tension in half.
I did just purchase my 2021 street glide special. I put the fat baggers 12 inch bars on it. I have to say I really love it.
Question Tall, can you use the rds as a park brake if you park on a steep incline? wondered if it works if you shut the bike off! Thanks for the video!
The hill assist on my 20 is awesome. Took all of one ride to get used to it.
My first impression seeing the Specials I did not care for the gas cap movement, but someone else recommended the flush mount cap and I think that improve the side profile look so much better, still seems bit off balance not having the second one like the bikes with the Speedometer on the console though. Looks nice. Chrome looks great! I'm not going to say my dream bike... but I sure do want one. 😄
Whats up NBT? I looks better in person, I didnt care for the changes at first, but now I kind of like it.
I love my hard lowers on my old tall engine guard. Riding up North my lowers prove helpful. Open and close at will. Of course my Harley is 16 years older than that one. Lol. Hey Tall, good video. Do you know if the new cable clutch can be retro fitted to a ‘19 Ultra?
I like the looks of these new engine guards too, but I’m like you about being able to have the lower fairings. I have a Limited with a quick release for my tour pack. So, I have the lowers which came stock. I’m so use to them during the colder weather. I haven’t ridden without lowers in 3 years. LOL! I’m spoiled like that, I guess. I just got a new RGS and the first thing I noticed while using the GPS on the HD screen is it constantly cuts out my music from Spotify. It gets REALLY annoying. The hill assist is awesome!
Should be a setting in the options to turn voice off.
Tall, how is the rear suspension? Any better/more travel than before?
Feels the same. I don't think they changed anything.
Yes I have 14 inch apes on my 2021 street glide special makes the ride more amazing added heated grips as well.
Nope
No locking gas caps on 2019s or 20s
You can but one from the catalogs
But not standard
Stop n go traffic with the hydraulic clutch means you got a popeye left arm. 75 through Cincinnati has been one heck of a workout for my left hand
I don’t see Black Jack Metallic on the paint options list on the Harley Website? Is it a custom colour?
Great review. I just subbed!
@travelingtall did it have aftermarket exhaust. It sounded alot better than my stock 2018 RoadKing
the hill assist will also deactivate if you take it out of gear, found that out by surprise!
Great video as usual. Bike looks good. I prefer the hydraulic clutch.
Hey Tall, love your videos. Are you going to Sturgis?
Travelling Tall, I love your videos! I only wish you were a 5'2" female showing a demonstration on how to videos ;-) Please do a video on "Howo-to-do-s" on the RDS! I bought a 2020 and would love to see how the options of RDS works for us guys and gals. Forget the manual... we have YOU!
Another good video Tall. Thank you Sir and God bless you 👍
The wheels are the only thing I like about this bike. I have a 2016 Road Glide Special and I don't mind the hydraulic clutch. Also, if you want to save some money, you can sand off the clear coat off the stock lowers and polish them up with aluminum polish. It takes time, but it will look just as good as chrome.
Definitely love the chrome version just don't think I can justify 30k for a bike that only can be ridden 4 months a year (-20 here in Wisconsin)
I must admit, the year-21 Tourings look much, much better in person! They’re nice!
I’m Mew to the channel Bruh I don’t have a Harley and I’ve never owned one but it looks really comfortable I’m still riding my 2002 Zuki Intruder 1500 what difference should I Look for on a Harley??? Besides the prices!
7:41 Harley has LED turn signal upgrades you can swap the bulbs out for now.
I bought the 2021 Road Glide CVO. I GOT rid of my 2016 Road Glide Ultra. I truly miss my lowers I catch allot of with now and rain. I ride in all types of weather and I hate this lower bar.
Hey Tall how u like that jacket I’m thinking about buying it
I really couldn't tell the difference between hydraulic and cable clutch. One didn't seem any different from the other. What really made a difference for my hydraulic clutch was adding the softbrake reduced reach lever!
Saw one yesterday at the dealership I do business with. I really like it.
Most people lean towards the cable clutch because the friction zone is smaller versus hydraulic that u have to open almost all the way out
How is the helmet buffeting?
Hey man are you located in Knoxville
Cable clutch is better than the hydraulic. More precision and adjustment. I like the new models SG and SGS, both.
Saw the black jack color in person. I really like it. It’s black, but you get a little extra.
Why did they do away with lower fairing
Lowers are a must if u ask me, feels goofy without them on the highway.
My 2020 has the hill assist also
I love the fact you can now get a special in chrome.
Nice looking with the chrome. Looks good.
The New Cable Clutch. New black paint for 21. That's some funny stuff right there...I don't car who you are. Reminiscent of Harley in the 70's. New twist grip for 1971. Leno does a bit about it, funny stuff. I do like that Hill Hold. Pay attention Indian.
Looks so much better with chrome as a Harley should have.
Can’t put the extra speakers in a lower fairing.
never liked the feel of the hydraulic one the feel and control of the friction point just seems to be easier to find with a cable. Tall saw your video on the stereo change Cpl days ago unfortunately the limited cvo did not get the Rockford Fosgate upgrade like the road glide cvo and street glide cvo got. I can see your point about the gas cap, but the clutch cable can be easily adjusted. They made it easier to adjust.
ua-cam.com/video/P030HWnM5gg/v-deo.html
Also, the new clutch cable is 2 pc. It separates at the adjustment spot , so now it's easier to change out handlebars.
Even comes with tow hooks
The new dash looks like the soft tail deuce.
But is really nice.
I like the new bikes, just not enough difference for me to get rid of my RG and start over with upgrades.
The 20 specials also didn't have time. Sadly. Only on cvo or if it has rdrs.
Great review!
Great review, thanks.
Glad they decided to bring back 2 key fobs, instead of 1.
I didn’t know they brought back the two bobs....it’s cool they did that.
@@rickaldrich5400 just bought 2021 SG dang only got one fob.
How does a suspension feel on the 2021 Harley-Davidson compared to yours do you feel it's better or still the same. I would prefer the clutch cable over the hydraulic I'm just the old school guy. good video🔥🏍🏍🏍🏍
I have Ohlins, so it's not a fair comparison. It wasnt bad for stock.
If you change the suspension you break the aesthetics and you do not improve much either. I keep the original.
Clutch cables is going to make it complicated to upgrade your bars. Harley knew wat they where doing wen they did that. It’s going to cost you some more more money
Upgraded the bars on mine and used the stock clutch cable no problem
