You know, seeing these interviews with guys from the early days of WSM makes me realizes just how much I miss Jón Páll Sigmarsson. He had so much life left to give.
Jamie for me, with the ever evolving face of Strongman, is one of few former competitors who could compete with the modern era. He was a tank. Never looked like he was struggling and always felt there was more there to give. He was amazing.
Jamie Reeves is like a one-man Four Yorkshiremen. "Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, (pause for laughter), drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work." That said, what a strongman and such great knowledge. Thank you Mr Reeves, and thank you Loz for another cracking conversation.
Best era hands down. For me the idea of getting the strongest guys from all different strength sports and putting them in events that were new to everyone is the best way to find who was strongest. No practicing technique just raw strength!
How about interviewing Ab Wolders or Tom Mgee??? They would be immense!! These old school interviews are important for strongman history! In 30 years time without these videos where would we be able to go to hear this or hopefully here from the likes of Ab and Tom?? You're creating a legacy and a platform for these legends mate!!!
Great interview!! Jamie Reeves' performance in WSM 1989 was truly fantastic, and I really enjoyed his commentary in WSM 1990. The movement training Jamie talked about in this interview actually played a big role in O.D. Wilson winning the WSM 1990 anvil carry event. During his 1990 commentary Jamie pointed out that instead of taking the time and energy to turn his 200kg frame around, O.D. simply skipped backward to the next anvil, whereby saving a second or two per anvil, allowing O.D. to win the event by an impressive margin.
Soooo nice to hear from Jamie. He was such a powerful competitor. I'll always remember watching him go head to head to head with Kaz and JPS. Great stuff Loz. #WorldsStrongestInterviewer @ #BigLozOfficial
I was just watching the 1992 World's Strongest Man competition and Jamie Reeves should have 100% won the title that year. Had the referee given Jamie Reeves the green flag on his last overhead rock/stone lift, he would have had enough points to win the entire competition. He also had bad luck on his first arm over arm plane pull, when it got caught on a damn camera cable and he had to redo it! Who knows how much energy and motivation that zapped out of him. Imo, Jamie should have been the overall winner in 1992. He was by far the strongest one there and was given a raw deal.
I just watched WSM in Iceland. Magnus Ver had a bad sword hold and stone carry which gives Ted Van Depare the chance for his title. Jamie Reeves also drops a barrel on himself in the loading race. I feel Iceland was the most visually beautiful event .
yeah he dropped it on himself alright, he went right over, I'm surprised he finished that event after that incident.... van der parre was most def the dark horse but he came on strong at the end.... don't forget the theme music!
I'm really enjoying these interviews with athletes from an older era,i grew up watching these guys but we only saw them a few times a year on tv.Being able to see them now passing on their experiences and insight's is great, thanks Loz keep it up.
amazing chat Loz ! wow, what a man Jamie Reeves is. remember shouting like crazy at the tv watching him, was so happy when he won WSM. great character. thanks again to both of you.
Great interview. Jamie was involved in some of my fav strongman comps and could hang with Kaz and Jon Pall in any event. By the way Loz, any chance of a Tom Magee interview in future? One of strongman’s best ever athletes IMO.
loved that interview jamie reeves is one of my fav strongmen ever and he has a wicked sense of humour as well with a great smile. could listen to him all day talking about jon-pall Magnus and Kaz and Taylor good old days
Met Jamie a few times at powerlifting competitions and went to a strongman competition at his gym in the early 2000s. Great interview, Jamie is a good lad 💪🏼
Great interview! Tbh, it actually felt like a cosy chat in a pub, it was so relaxing. The rapport you have here makes for a great interview. I look forward to watching more! All the best! 👍👍👍👍🏴
Always my fave strongman growing up ...i was never keen on capes but Jamie was the man that got me into weightlifting Great personality and as strong as a tank in his prime
This is one of those interviews where I could have listened for another hour. Brilliant content! Also, Jamie's accent is so northern, I'm surprised there wasn't a whippet running around in the background!
Oh now we really need to hear from Tom McGee!! Great story about O.D too! And if you get Magnus Ver on, it would be great to hear about the O.D/Bill situation from Pure Strength 1988. I really want to know what happened!
Jordan , you're bang on mate. Loved the Gary Taylor interview, being Welsh as well, now Jamie, brilliant! Didn't start watching strongman until late 90s. I'm 43 now, love the early years tho.
That was easy to listen to all the way through. Loved his era of Strongman. I enjoy hearing about the importance of recovery too. People learn that from age and experience, but I think it's so important for young people to be reminded of that. Mike Mentzer seemed almost alone in his time belaboring that point. I like it when I see other credible people testifying on the truth of this matter.
It was great to see and hear Jamie Reeves. Super job Loz. I enjoyed it very much. I've seen the first few WSM competitions (I've seen them all, I think) and I was struck by how much higher the prize money was then. You're all tough as hell, but man, what the old fellas went though. I liked this from Jamie Reeves: "It's all about preparation and lifting in good form ... your style has got to be perfect, and you can't diversify away from that in a rough ragged manner; it's got to be controlled power. And if you do that, you'll have longevity in your career; you'll not bust your body up ... "
Trained with Jamie one Sunday morning at the forum gym with Mark Higgins and Johnny Neighbours. Chris Lawson watched Johnny bench 225kg for 12 reps. Great days! best wishes Dave Chubb
been looking forward to this and did not disappoint, great insight into the development and politics of strongman .........loved it, even watched the adverts
I enjoy these conversations immensely! Love hearing from former strongman legends! It's a shame how much injuries have plagued all the competitors though. Jamie Reeves, Manfred Hoeberl, and untimely demise of the late great Jon Pall Sigmarsson would have been great throughout the mid to late 90s competing against Magnus Ver Magnusson!
Great interview. When Jamie came into the sport Capes had a lot of power and influence. I remember a couple of the let's just say advantages he gave his lads.
Really good interview Loz, and great to hear from Jamie. Seems like a top bloke (so not surprised he didn't get on with one or two people...🤔) with some really great thoughts and insights on different aspects of the sport. 👍
Loving the interviews Loz i think you should revisit all these legends and current strongman and do a training and eating interview. See how they trained, what weights they were training at their peak 1 rep 5 rep 10 rep maxes etc!!
Any chance of getting the unrelated Haugens on? I knew a bit about Odd but have had more exposure to him thanks to Martins. He's got such a long history in the sport (that he has told in other videos), would be so cool to hear more about his time spent putting on contests and his take on where the sport is now. And then Arild. He was so strong and so young. He was outrageous in his heat at WSM 2008 at such a young age, and then retired from strongman and just vanished into boxing obscurity.
Great to listen to Jamie comment on the almost “circular” evolution of strongman. It would be interesting to see todays top athletes contest the first WSM events, except perhaps the fridge carry.
Brilliant Jamie Reeves at last. Nice to hear Mark Higgins get a mention, even if it wasn’t complementary. Likewise John Neighbour, met him twice, he was my powerlifting hero.
Awesome video Loz. Great to hear from the man who won world's in 89 not biased at all cause it was year I was born hahaha. Seriously great video love hearing old stories from true legends thanks Loz 💪
Big Loz, I love your content especially with the older strongmen. Any chance you have or have plans to contact Raimonds Bergmanis? (Hope I spelled it correctly lol)
Watched tbis amazing to the max to get big jamie on.. could listen to you both all day... always believed jamie went about his lifting like a true gentleman... not like john paul .. jamie had more class and brute strength... loved ure stories on the evolution of the strongman . Wish jamie could compete he be up the top . Never liked capes..jamie would have smashed him.. built like a true British bull... carry on these are amazing stories..

What do you mean Strongman related? He's had nothing to do with Strongman at all unless it's talking about his future plans, which would be good to hear.
I agree, I wish the people that offered Eddie and Thor all that money to box as amateurs would have offered it to have it out as professional strongmen, since that is what they are. Even if it's just 3 events. In Vegas. Promote it right and people will buy tickets, and put it on Netflix. They'd make money even without the blood and brain damage involved if it were a slugfest.
I listen to jef capes , Jamie, kaz, Tom magee tips. It can't grow as a sport if you need super strength. As if you want common people to take part they need lighter weight. Can amateur not be on tv

Well done dad so proud 😘🤩
It was lovely to talk to your dad: he’s a strongman legend :)
Big Loz Official thank you for having him I know he really enjoyed it 😁
When will we see you at WSM. 😁
@@philmitchell9413 I think the M in WSM might make life tough for Jamie Reeves' daughter to compete. I hear she's a great swimmer though.
Very underated strongman beating JPS in his prime.
Reeves was fantastic. Really likeable guy and so strong for the late 80s. Crazy pressing power!
I met Jamie with Eddie coan at IPF worlds back in the 90s, very humble and friendly guy.
One of the best strongman interviews I've listened to Jamie Reeves a legend and so much history, knowledge and sense..excellent.
I always liked this guy, you can tell he's a fountain of knowledge when it comes to strength
A great strongman who competed against the best and outdid them all. Be great to see Ab Wolders being interviewed too. Very humble too like Jamie
Great to see Jamie again! You're killing it with these interviews. Any plans to get Geoff Capes?
😉
Great shout
