      To be fair to Eddie and WHY he has that sort of attitude... he was an amazing, olympic-level swimmer, then he went into strongman and won WSM in 2017. Dude is taking the scenic route on riding his high horse. 😆

      Unreal :D
      Oh and the Stoltmans already said that Eddie cheated with Bryce in 2017 in order to win. It was secretly recorded, and the conversation has been online for over a year. It's been proven. Bryce was forced to resign over it.

  • @PortuguesePirate99
    @PortuguesePirate99 Рік тому +85

    The intro conversation they are having, the both of them are spot on. WSM and Strongman is becoming too much about movement and fitness rather than just pure brute strength like it was in the Shaw Classic. Thats the shit that people really want to see, ofc you need the truck pulls, the medleys, keg toss etc but it should factor on the weight being heavy and not everyone being able to do it rather than time. Its amazing to see what Brian has done with the Shaw Classic and its only going to get better, just wish that stone-off in 21 against big Tommy went in Brian's favour for his 5th because he deserved it and we all knew it was inevitable for Tom to win another 3 or 4 easily anyway

    • @GODOFHELLFIRE3
      @GODOFHELLFIRE3 Рік тому +4

      I feel the same way, as a lot of people do, but I completely understand why WSM went in that direction. Annoyingly, it's always going to be a TV show first and a sport second, and that means turning every event into a running-race so they can have plenty of 'close-call separated-by-a-split-second' photo-finishes. How many times have we heard Neil Pickup tell us how 'these guys are actually RUNNING with four-HUNDRED kilos' at every Giants Live show he's ever done? There's also the problem that making the events heavy poses a massively-increased risk of injury, as we saw in 2019, having multiple athletes out of competition for years on end to rehab hamstring tears isn't good for business.
      As much as the entertainment aspect of strongman is 'good for the sport', it would be nice if we had a strongman-equivalent to an IPF meet. No drama, no theatrics, just a herd of absolute meat-machines taking it in turns to load a 300kg Atlas Stone in a silent white room.

    • @PortuguesePirate99
      @PortuguesePirate99 Рік тому +2

      @GODOFHELLFIRE3 yep completely agree with everything you said, i do get it and shit i mean at this point the Shaw Classic could be exactly that one event a year and designed to be heavy as shit to give us what we want to see without much of the other "bullshit" that comes with it. Alot of the athletes have said that its the one event where they are being put first before everything else like it should be which is great as their input will be heavily taken into consideration

    • @Dillinja2017
      @Dillinja2017 Рік тому

      Although i agree in principal if you look back through the history of WSM its always had a lot of movement events, i think its good we have different competitions with slightly different styles, i think its more interesting to have the range.

    Every once in a while, someone comes along that changes the game, transcends the actual sport or event they are involved in. Brian is one of those people.
    I see, very shortly, the Shaw Classic dwarfing WSM as the TRUE Strongman event that EVERY SM athlete wants a shot at and to win and the biggest reason for that is Brian's goals for the SPORT of Strongman. It's always been about the athlete's and the fans over the stage where they perform.
    Thank you for your years of constantly improving not just yourself but the sport of Strongman and showing where the importance really lies ... with the athlete's and not the promotion.

    One of the things I love about strongman is that it demonstrates real world functional strength (pull it, pick it up, carry it, etc.). As Eddie pointed out, you can either pick this up and move it from A to B, or you cannot. The other thing I love about it is this: men should be strong. Obviously, you gents are extreme examples of strength. Even so, every man should strive to be strong physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. You two, and men like you, set great examples for other men. The rest of us look at you gents and realize that we need to get off our butts and work to be strong.

    My main thing with watching human vs human contests is how relatable it is to me, as a fellow human. Throwing a keg over a bar, impressive and I can't do it, but can I go do that in my yard right now? No. Can I deadlift and compare to you on tv and think wow these guys are freaks? Yes. Squat, same thing. Even if you're squatting a car, mass is mass, and if the car is x pounds, I can go into my basement and load my bar up and then know I can't do it. Or hit your gym and try, but same thing. It's like a running race that way, a marathon is a marathon, go run it and see and compare. Back to basics, people love seeing the big weights, I do for sure.

What I'd really like to see introduced into strongman is a governing body that chooses the events to see who is actually the strongest as Eddie said, deadlift, squat, press, plane pull with heavy weights for reps should be in the final every time. A governing body would also stop all these so called record attempts out of peoples home gyms and keep the sport totally honest. 👍

    Listening to Brian talk about the prize money, I'm pretty sure that's as much, if not more than, a win as getting the title. Prime example of why he'll be loved long after retirement and why he's the undisputed GOAT!

    What amazes me as a fan of the sport is the level of sportsmanship and the openness. It's an individual sport but you guys all cheer for each other. It also seems like if someone is the best in the world at something in Strongman they are still totally open to teaching another competitor how they do it (Novikov with Dumbell Press for example). I feel like this sport is a brotherhood, a family. I work in business and I talk about Strongman all the time and what kind of lessons we can learn from this sport.

    Now that you are retired Brian, I hope you get into armwrestling, but on top of that you and Eddie can make so much money just making so many funny videos. You should make a TV show and Call it living with Eddie Hall.😂😂

      @@beanrefraction9530 he really could be such a dominant arm wrestler. Look at Todd Hutchings he started I think at 38 years old and he’s one of the best in the world right now at 53 lol if Brian wants to keep competing in a professional sport armwrestling would be his thing.

    Brian is a tremendous exemplar of what is called the virtue of 'Magnanimity', or, "greatness of soul". St. Thomas Aquinas, speaking on Magnanimity, states, "The magnanimous man despises external goods, inasmuch as he does not think them so great as to be bound to do anything unbecoming for their sake. Yet he does not despise them, but that he esteems them useful for the accomplishment of virtuous deeds" (ST II-II Q.129 A.8 R.O.2) What this means is that the magnanimous man only sees goods - money, power, honor, and so on - as a means to accomplish the good (virtuous deeds) and not valuable in and of themselves.

    That fact that a marathon runner won worlds strongest man this year shows you the state of the sport right now. It wouldn’t surprise me that now that Brian’s gone the contests will focus on weight more. WSM never wanted Brian to be the goat, for whatever reason. Taking events out that he did so well at…. But ultimately it didn’t matter what they did to stop Brian. He’s the GOAT.

    That speech from eddie about What strongman is and should be looking forward. I like strongman to be about strength too, not about explosiveness or speed. The kinda power that Eddie, hafthor, Shaw, Z and Tom too (since he won 4/8 event at Shaw classic which was the example of a good contest).

    • @frankb5728
      @frankb5728 Рік тому +1

      I disagree with Eddie, to some extent. I agree that WSM was way too light from the late 90s to the 2010s but they've fixed their competition. I think strongman is about functional strength, farmhand strength, not powerlifting PRs.

    • @vvoof2601

      I understood where Ed was coming from but it fails to take into consideration that strength is much more than just static lifting. Speed and explosivity are types of strength.

    Fan of Brian as a strongman but he would be an absolute nightmare to work for. He's very detail oriented and a perfectionist. He seems like that kinda guy. You hear him talk about every circumstance and condition under the sun when he competes for Strongman so I am not shocked when Ed mentioned he's very hands on.
