Que orgullo! Yo tambien soy de Mexicali y me encanta que ustedes estan ahi representando y compartiendo nuestra increible comida con el mundo! How awesome! I'm from Mexicali too and I love that you guys are out there representing and sharing out amazing food with the world! Keep it up guys, you're making us all proud back home!
Guys, I was one of your first customers! We moved to Chinatown around the same time. I use to hit up that truck across Bahia. Thanks to that Asian dude for believing in these cats. Great food but you can't down LA's Mexican food scene. If anything you should be giving it "props mejor". LA is THE MECCA in the US for all kinds of Mexicans from every region of Mexico. So, the cuisines can really differ. Northern Mexico, Baja, Yukatan, Mexico City, Nayarit, Sinaloa, Oaxaca, Jalisco, Durango, Veracruz, Guadalajara, Puebla, etc etc. Even each restaurant has their own twist on their region. There are literally, THOUSANDS of Mexican places to eat and more popping up every day. From old school traditional to new school fusion and nuvo fancy.
"No good tacos in LA" "In LA, you won't find real asada." Where in LA did these guys grow up? Westside? These guys come off a bit pompous. LA has the largest Mexican community outside Mexico, many being born there, and there wasn't good Mexican food before they've showed up? LA has the best Mexican food outside Mexico, that's why people have raved so much about it before these guys came along. It's like saying there's no good bagels in New York.
Al Bundy I'm sorry Al Bundy, I didn't realize you were the leading expert Mexican food and culture outside of Mexico. You can barely even feed your kids man.
Al Bundy Yeah I ate there and the tortillas were cold... really ruined the experience, far from being the best tacos. The cachetada was pretty good tho.
Noneya Bizness You're high if you think Texas has better Mexican food than LA. The Mexican food in Texas is nothing more than watered down, cheese-ladened Tex-Mex made to appeal to gringos. In LA, the food is legit and as close as it gets to being in Mexico.
This is awesome. Reminds me of what we kind of did in our Mexican restaurant. I love seeing restaurants like this succeed. Props to them. Wish I had stayed longer to see my restaurant grow.
I really like this episode - a lot of the other featured groups have been way higher-budget, but these dudes do the same rounds of their favorites and feel the same pride for their food as the others. it's nice to be reminded that passion for fine food doesn't just exist on the 5-star-restaurant or daring-hole-in-the-wall equivalent to high fashion.
Okay, so I saw this and decided to drive there tonight. All I can say is that they are doing it right! Best place to eat by far, it is hard to find a place with real food and perfect tortillas. My new favorite place!
I had Mexicali when they were serving from the parking lot on 1st & beaudry, next to my apt complex Prom Towers. Everything is bomb there, the carne asada nachos with that nacho cheese. I'm glad to see these guys doing well !!!
This is what Munchies is suppose to be. A story about the come up and how they got to where they are as successful chefs and restaurant owners WHILE they eat food. Not hipsters running around Brooklyn getting wasted over and over and over.
i live in mexico so i get the best taco level xD , not to brag about mexican food but its very tasty and a lot of variety , soups etc . Im pretty sure anyone could like :)
Those tacos are also traditional in my town in Zamora, Michoacan and thats southwest Mexico. They are pretty much traditional in the entire Mexico not restricted to one state. I see it like a cheap quick meal that satisfies kind of like pizza its simple bread sauce cheese pepperoni, tacos you have tortilla beef or whatever kind of meat you want on it like al pastor, arrachera, birria, buche, sesos, whatever infinite toppings. My uncle owns a taqueria in Zamora and serve pretty much the same food.
I'm from Mexicali, Baja California, and that kind of tacos are the ones that are traditional in Mexicali, so basically those are real mexican tacos, and they are fucking delicious!
i can see you do some traditional style cooking just like Mexicali street food but you do a little bit more modern style..i like it!!! Grew up in El Centro and living far away now lol miss my good Baja Style Mexican!!!
I'll give these guys some credit but being in LA resident when the guy says "HERE IN LA YOU WON'T FIND REAL ASADA" & "DUDE THEIRS NO GOOD TACOS HERE IN LA" Are you freaking kidding me??? Theirs good tacos spots like every other block!!! My personal fav is Tacos El Pecas on 7th & Soto in Boyle Heights
The last time I tried these tacos was in 09!!!... remembering when they catered to my job and fell for the al pastor...the whole menu is good...probably go this week to eat some VAMPIROS 🧛♂️

The owner of the Mexicali is actually very very nice. ( i live 2 blocks away from mexicali)
Is the food good there ?
yea hella good. they dip their tortilla chips on their beef fat for flavor XD

Al is short for Alfredo. :)
Al Bundy Yeah I ate there and the tortillas were cold... really ruined the experience, far from being the best tacos. The cachetada was pretty good tho.
Al Bundy you're high if you think LA has better Mexican than Texas. Its not even close.

This is what Munchies is suppose to be. A story about the come up and how they got to where they are as successful chefs and restaurant owners WHILE they eat food. Not hipsters running around Brooklyn getting wasted over and over and over.
Only reason why I try not to watch Munchies is that it makes me incredibly hungry.

I would eat here all the time. I hope one day there is a Mexiicalli in every city in the US soon. Preferably Louisville Ky
I don't know what that orange sauce is at 10:08 but it looks bomb
It's like Chipotle dressing, very common in Mexicali, Baja California.
It is chipotle and is almost none spicy but is delicious!
habanero sauce is also orange and bomb af
" The IN-N-OUT of tacos" That's a vision Bro!! Good Luck..

I'm from Mexicali, Baja California, and that kind of tacos are the ones that are traditional in Mexicali, so basically those are real mexican tacos, and they are fucking delicious!
Those sopes where so gooooood here
Very very bad idea to watch this late at night. So freaking hungry right now god dang it.
Funny how it's still light outside, that summer sun.
went here after watching this. Their tacos are very good
PJ's, Columbus, Ohio. You don't even have to edit it. Just shoot 10 minutes of footage anytime between 1 and 4 am and call it an episode.
best tacos in mexico are in : Mexico City (the capital) and Tijuana (Norht of mexico next to San Diego in the border)
I'm checking this place out! Keep up the great work, bro!
I totally agree man, they are so fine!
Men with a vision. I can dig it.

What Munchies episode are you mentioning?
Mexicali, la capital gastronomica de todo Mexico!
I don't even have a taco bell within an hour's drive from where I live. Mexicali, come to Ontario. Lol.

Can de talk about Esdras Job in the final table? God, he made it far and always using tradicional flavors
Humble men from humble beginings
I'm going to this place next time i'm in LA!
I would love to be in the car with them eating & chilling LA Style!!!
I just ate and you guys are making me hungry again.
Best episode!
Mexicali for asada tacos, San Felipe for fish tacos, Ensenada for cabeza tacos, and Cabo for pink tacos!
What a great example of the old fashion american dream!
Especially where hamburgers and hot dogs originated from Germany! many our foods from today weren't ours from the beginning.
Todo pa'delante mi Jente...
It's refreshing to see a Munchies episode where the restaurant owners don't get shitfaced.
If I ever go to LA again I know where to go.
No good tacos in L.A? These guys are crazy, when you're in the right neighborhood throw a rock in any direction and you'll find good tacos.
+olskoolnewpaint people still buy that chapo weed in Cali ?
Iceburgg Slimm

Its time to visit Mexicali Taco & Co. !!
