  • One topic that comes up often is body image. People ask a lot about body image and they talk about how it's really hard to love themselves and love their image and love who they are when they're exposed to beliefs or advertisers or the world around us or the culture making us feel that we are not perfect or that we're not beautiful and things like that.
So first of all, I completely get you. I completely get you, but what I do want to say is that the advertising world, the images they put out are not real. They are fictitious. They're truly fictitious characters and when you walk around the street, you do not see people that look like that when you look at some of these magazines like Vogue or whatever magazines, Cosmopolitan and when they have the models for all the ads for the big brand names or when you see the billboards or when you watch the ads on TV for products and clothes and things like that. Many of those models are just ... They're not real people and a lot of it has been Photoshopped. So that's the main thing that I want you to know.
Actually, the main thing that I really want you to know, the most important thing is I want you to know that your body is your body. It's your body. Nobody can tell you what to do with it. So whenever people are telling you that you've gained weight, you need to lose weight, you need to get rid of your body hair, your facial hair, your this, your that, it's your body. It's nobody's business except yours, truly, whether you choose to have makeup or not have makeup.
See, another thing that confuses people is they say to me that if they're trying to be authentic, should they stop coloring their hair? Should they stop coloring their roots? Should they stop wearing makeup? Is it not authentic? Are they being fake by wearing makeup?
Here's the thing about what it means to be authentic. Being authentic means being who you are and that means if you feel like wearing makeup, then wear makeup. If you feel like dyeing your hair purple, then dye it purple. If you feel like putting in those rainbow streaks that Cyndi Lauper used to have in the '80s, then do it. It's your hair. It's your body. Nobody can tell you what to do with it.
So the main thing I feel, the most important thing is to know that it's your body, for you not to judge your body. Everyone else is. So please don't judge your own body and also love your body, love yourself and accept where you are right now. To me, healthy is so much more important than skinny. Really, it is because skinny doesn't mean healthy...............

Thank you for all of your videos and lessons! I have been learning a lot. I wanted to add a comment regarding “skinny” people. I am one of them and I struggle daily to keep and put weight on due to illness. I am very self conscious of this because I feel unattractive being so thin. I get a lot of comments from people suggesting I should gain weight or eat more because they assume I am thin on purpose. It is hurtful because it just reinforces how bad I already feel about my weight.

Christine H I have been through this too and I have found that when I just let go of the pressure to be a certain way and eat for myself, I find myself settling into a natural, healthy weight. And having been through what I have, I never thought that would be possible again. So don’t lose hope and keep doing things that nurture your body and you’ll find your way back to your innate intuition for self care! 💖

Anita - I've heard you say this a million times - "Ask yourself 'If I loved myself...'" I finally just got it. Anything I cannot feel connected to, I can finally connect to it when I put on the lens of "If I loved myself." Haha... I don't know why it took me THIS long to get it. But wow, what a different perspective. Keep doing the good work, Anita.

I would love to make UA-cam videos, but my mental health issues cause extreme rage at times when I can't accomplish things, like computer work. So I'm learning how to cope with stress n OVERCOME my fears n achieve my goals.... at least that's the idea!? Haha I have no clue how to acclimate to society's needs after my scandalous intro to Fame, but I'm gonna figure it out. Thank you so much Dear Anita for helping me believe in my uniqueness and giving me lots of healing practices this year, I'm loving these CHANGES, n I'm only halfway through.

Wow! Thank you Anita. U were speaking directly to me here. Got me into tears again. It has become a tradition now. Lol.
What abt wen people sense smthin different abt me, am 27 , from Delhi, India , am young not putting up pictures wd a boyfriend, wen I meet new people make friends be it a dance class or gym or any work place , wen they are talking about their life n asking me about mine, in my story comes a gap that I am not able to fill n talk about. They r talking abt their current bf or gf n their exes. Wen they ask me about mine , i hv nothing to tell. Then they start guessing things. n i feel like a liar, i feel compelled. N then end up disliking myself. Even if I dont want to focus on this about me , but everything in life wherever i go, it happens so that I end up thinking abt it. I wish for a day wen nobody has to ever come out n it all be as cool n normal fr evryone to hear that one is gay as it is to hear one is straight.
Am not complaining about anything though, am deeply grateful that my parents my family accepted me. Smthing I never imagined was even possible. Although after a failed marriage but they got it, they understood n accepted me for me.

Thank you Anita for giving us so much love through your presence, wisdom, authenticity and unique perspective of the world. The idea that ego is not "bad" has been very helpful to me, something I'm still trying to incorporate and understand on a deeper level as well as allowing ourselves to mainly spend time with people who are loving and appreciative towards us. I still struggle a bit with that one, there are a couple of people in my life that can be quite unkind, likely due to their own pain and frustration. I feel torn between the idea that life has put these people in my life for a reason, to learn and grow from as well as the knowledge that none of us are perfect, we all do our best, and life is not always a walk in the park and the notion that it is healthy to give myself permission to limit or cut my time with people who are unsupportive and draining. They both make sense, no? ❤️

I agree , health starts with total self acceptance. I feel it allows love to circulate through me. And ~ from there, I will always do well. It is dangerous to go around carrying self loathing. It’s toxic. It’s telling your body, “ I hate you “ .. very sad. Not good at all.

About 'healing' the body image: I recently watched the documentary 'Embrace' by Taryn Brumfitt on Netflix. After I finished watching, I knew this film had changed me forever. It was released in 2016 but still so incredibly relevant (also for men). I was shocked to learn that so many people dislike or hate their bodies and suffer because of massive brainwashing by the media. People start to think something is wrong with them, they get stuck in this body image obsession and feel unworthy. Feeling unworthy literally blocks anyone from living a rich and loving life.
You are right: your body is your concern. And like Taryn says: your body is your vehicle, not an ornament.

My tears flow with love for you. I still have chest discomfort and have tried many many things. I trust and believe it is for a reason and that my path is still evolving.
I know you are so busy .... but would be thrilled hearing from you. Want to see you in person .... worrying about leaving my dog alone LOL..... yup that s me. By some miracle we can connect. I am so not tech savvy. Going to oncology to ask for a pain injection in my breasts today . I know a miracle will happen. Guess it’s hard for doctors to believe pain is not real . May God continue with your work .... I know I will somehow hear from you. Much love ( sorry for my long winded ness ). QUESTION : pls speak on chronic pain. Nursejanet7@gmail.com. (Miracles 55) 😘

      Janet,
I hope that you are feeling better. I feel for you, regarding your breast pain.
Please ask your Oncologist about fat grafting to help your sensitive nerves/tissue removed area. I do not know where you live, however, in the United States insurance [by Federal Law] will cover you for any reconstruction or correction from breast cancer surgery.
Please look into resources that can help you. Scar tissue can slide over the breast bone area or a muscle area, and there are fibers of nerves under the skin that is very sensitive. Please look into fat grafting into your scars and also for under the "sliding" skin
I hope that this information helps you in some way. 💚

Anonymous writer TBC interesting link. I feel that the world will be much different if we swap the resource between rich and poor people. But how we do it determine the end result... Most giver will enjoy giving and receiver will learn that they can receive the happiness indirectly from others receiving their joy. This message isn't taught well in most western world and even in Asian this ancient value is forgotten by young people.

Anu Jain the spreading love part maybe somewhat lesser of challenge for us, as we are in the IT field. Hehehe. You have a great vision of your dream. Have you consider setting up a project plan ? Maybe super simple or even a place holder. At the very least it can serve the reminder to ourselves against the heavy life we have.
I am on a similar quest like you. Maybe we should gather more liked mind people to craft a plan together. Say what is ur Facebook or contact? We can chat more there

Yes, always!! I'm skinny as well, and in my case loving myself means accepting that and embracing it. If I wanted to be more muscular it'd be okay too, as long as I do it in a healthy way, but accepting the way you are rn is the first step even if you want to change your body.

Hello Anita, maybe it's too late to ask you my question. I try anyway, we never know. I have big big issues with money. I always had. All my life. I'm 50, and since 2 years, i'm doing something I love to do, i never imagined I could do something with my hands, and I would like to sell my creations. But I just don't. I don't. I'm making the websites, the photos, everythings, because I can't pay anyone for doing it. I tried to learn how to do. And I don't want to come back to my old life, struggling for everything, especially for money. The thing is, I can work so hard sometimes (7days in a week, 11 hours a day) OR I can work as I like, creating on my own rythm, making something beautiful. Both have the same result with me : no money at all. No money. I know why, I know the messages my parents sent me, I know the energies and people around me who don't want me to succeed, I'm making big changes, very big changes in some parts of my life, but nothing change. I don't have any money. And it's really stressfull. No house, no car, barelly paying food or rent... Something is blocked, and I can't move it. I'm so tired and so scared. I don't know if you can help me, but if you have a councel, it would be nice. Thank you. Sylvie
