how did it go with the rear spring job go?
i have a 90 560sel that had the self leveling suspension that the previous owner disabled but not in the best way. so i'm going to convert it to a 420sel setup. so i need to put new (420) springs in there.
never done that sort of thing before, lots of other things tho.
You have drain the hydraulic system, cap off the lines, and remove the sls pump from the engine. I cut the rubber line behind the alternator and just left it there. It doesn't hang and doesn't have the possibility of getting caught up on the belts or anything.
To get to the rear springs you have to remove the rear back seats which is actually very easy. I think it's like 4 bolts. There are TWO plastic plugs for each side to gain access to the top of the shock and the bottom of the shock where they hydraulic hose connects. IIRC rhe bottom plug is black and you have to remove the amplifier from the bracket to get to it. The top plug is a plastic white circle and that's how you get to the shock mount.
There are videos on how to replace the rear shocks I'd suggest you'd look at but the SLS not so much.
