- Fragments of a Biblical scroll and other relics have been found in what officials call an "historic discovery" in desert caves in Israel.
The dozens of pieces of parchment were written in Greek, with just the name of God appearing in Hebrew.
The scroll is believed to have belonged to Jewish rebels who fled to the hills following a failed revolt against Roman rule in the 2nd Century.
They were found during an operation to prevent caves in the area being looted.

Caves generally aren’t that nice, I would imagine a “cave of horror” wouldn’t be that pleasant at all.
As a former cave tour guide i can say it depends on the cave.
Honestly locking up in winter in the dark is the worst part as all the bats start flying around and you can't see them.

Humans have supposedly been around for hundreds of thousands of years, so these fragments are relatively new and insignificant in the scheme of things, but obviously not for those who follow the particular religion the fragments are related to.

The author who wrote the book, "Portrait of Jenny" made into a movie with Jennifer Jones, also penned "Digging the weans" which Theodore Bikel recorded on vinyl years ago. It is a future interpretation of fragments found in a cave in the far future. It is very fun & very appropriate to this find. There is also Arthur C. Clark's "Childhood's End" where the first 100 pages is a
similar interpretation of holy words penned way back when which turns out to be a 20th century grocery shopping list. Amazing to find pieces of something so ancient. They should continue this kind of work rather than making life so hard for Gaza & West Bank.

It was horrific for the Jews who did not listen to the warnings to flee the city in 67 CE, instead they tried to fight the Roman's, but they were losing, so some escaped, only to die of starvation in the caves.
I'm thinking these were jews who died in the bar kokhba revolt circa 132-136, the same war as masada. It sounds like the romans were camping above the cave besieging it.
