"Kleines Triptychon" from Five Number Pieces
William Kenlon - www.williamkenl...
Composed in 2013, “Kleines Triptychon” is a piece from the set of five miniatures, 'Five Number Pieces.' Kenlon writes: "Kleines Triptychon" is my favorite of the bunch by a large margin. I wrote it as a musical thank-you note to the Metzler family, who generously housed me and some fellow musicians on a choir tour of Germany in 2013. Their last name is written into the seven-note phrase that occurs several times in the piece, and their street address (56) provided the pitches and intervals for the opening measures of the work - hence this piece's inclusion in the "Five Number Pieces." This work represents a milestone for me as my first piece for solo keyboard instrument, and it also transports me back to the wonderful time I had with my old choir and the friends we made in Germany.”
