Sounds like she's got another gig. That's why woody said he'll eventually tell us but not now, probably waiting for her to start that new job. Hence giving her a proper send off. Also had she been let go by upper management woody would've not stood for that there wouldn't have been a show today.
Yea, sounds like she had something else cooking and she left without giving notice, or left last minute. He's disappointed because instead of being able to celebrate with her, the show cast was discarded in a more " thanks but I don't need you guys/this gig anymore" kinda vibe. You can tell this is a her thing and not a management thing because Woody's negative feelings are geared more towards her and not at something/someone else. If it were an executive decision, he would be defending her to the hilt.
She’s the only one that can call him on his crap when he crosses a line. Sammy doesn’t have that cache. She’s the check that he needs which the others can’t provide even if she’s not the most key personality in the group. It won’t work without her or someone who can take that role.
