There are many, many videos and photos of the Cathedral, Castle etc out there - but videos like this, showing everyday life and streets in Lincoln are far more evocative for anyone who lived here. Your flip phone footage of the old bus station, and video of an autumn Sunday morning in the 90s video brought back so many memories for me. Just a glimpse of a street scene which no longer exists can have an enormous Proustian rush! Please never take down these videos - future generations will find this footage invaluable.
Yes it's tragic isn't it? Just shows you even in the 90s poverty was rife for some families, it must have been embarrassing driving around in an old car like that whilst others around you were driving nicer newer cars.
Thank you so much for this, was great to look back, I moved to Lincoln from Sleaford in 1989 as a wet behind the ears 16yr old. Went back to Sleaford in 2005.
My God what a blast from the past. Just saw me my dad and brother in the mayor's parade. We was the blue land rover advertising the Lincoln motorcycle training scheme. Good memory's thankyou for uploading this!
Thank you for sharing this video. It brings back so many memories for me being a teenager in the early 90's. I remember the Brayford like this before the University was built and then they changed the scene forever, adding one student apartment block after another. It's so built up now that you can't even see beyond the bridge because of the tall buildings behind it which block the view.
In the 1950s a mate and I used to earn a bit of extra cash emptying coal wagons on the Holmes yard. Also in the 1940s I lived in New Boultham which had trains from St .Marks station passing 20 yards from our house. I also remember a collision on the Coulson Road embankment (now gone) with trucks smashed like matchwood and the engine laying on the bank.
Since these scenes were taken, Lincoln has now been destroyed by outsiders. The council see that students which only spend a couple of years here are more important than its long term residents.
A pedestrian bridge stood for many years it was over the track next to the Great Northern Hotel which stood where The Bed Shop & Superdrug now stand.A photo exists showing part of the old hotel & bridge on pg.14 of the Memory Lane,Lincoln & Lincolnshire book published by the Echo.I crossed that bridge many times and also had a few pints in the Great Northern Bar, both long since demolished in the name of so called progress.
lots of memories here can anyone remember all the trains that useed to be parked up at brayford warf and emergancy services useed to practice how to cope with train crashes!!
Amazing how much my home city as changed! Hard to imagine were the parade is on that road isn't a through road anymore from st Mary's street! Just filled the road into pavement slabs so it's a full shopping precinct
On the edge of Tentercroft St and St Mary's bus station, in this vid is an empty building on the corner, do I remember correctly, was that the Argos that closed down and moved again ?
Killerguyno1 If you are interested you can find aerial photographs of Lincoln taken in the 1920s and 30s on the internet including some of the railways.
I have many photos of Lincoln, etc. on Gooogle Earth and at present have almost a million views on Panoramio. If you own the copywrite of the photos you would achieve a much wider audience than the Echo.

The same traffic is still there 20 years later
It's all changed now mate! Probably won't recognise it now, especially the bus station.
