  • The original Quadrajet 1708 the car was born with is back on the engine after being remanufactured by All American Carburetors of Jacksonville, Florida, 904-215-6790.
    The previous owner had purchased and installed a replacement Quadrajet.
    However, when you buy a carburetor off the shelf, they are NOT calibrated properly for a Corvette, so using the original carburetor was the right choice.
    All American made it look better than new and it's calibrated per factory specs for my 1981 Corvette with a manual transmission.
    In this video, I cover the steps taken to remove the old carb and reinstall the original back in the car.
    Now that the car is running (and starting) better, I will give it a basic tune-up and take it out for test drives.
    Thank you for watching! 🙂👍🏻

    Wow. That is running so nice. I wish I would have put a QuadraJet on my C3 instead of the Holley Sniper EFI. I have over 3,000 on the car with the Sniper and still trying to fine tune it. You have done a great job on this car. Whoever buys it is getting a really clean car and with all the detailing you have done, it's ready to go to a car show. Keep up the good work.

    Another great video. If I didn't know better I would say that was an easy removal and installation. But in fact is it's not as easy at all. The talent of a skilled individual is to make difficult things look easy. Well done. Thank you for always providing us with great C3 content.

      Carburetors have manufacturing dates, division it was made for, year range, and whether it’s for a manual or auto trans. That’s how I make sure it matches the car. 😊👍🏻

    Great video! Love your content! From where was the first carb? I saw on my old carb the same sticker, it was a mix-and-match carb.

      Thank you! 😊👍🏻 Not sure where the previous owner got it, but I’m sure glad he kept the original Quadrajet.

    Good morning. I watch your videos with great attention and I always admire the ease with which you work on the mechanics of your cars. I have no doubt that you will repeat the magnificent work done on your 76 with this 81. For my part, since acquiring my 75 2 years ago, I have not used my car often due to problems. health. On the other hand, I regularly run the engine and recently a problem presented itself to me. After starting the car cold, the starter does not disengage and the engine speed remains at around 1500 rpm and although the engine warms up, the speed does not stabilize. In this sense I would like to ask your opinion on this subject and what could be the cause. Some time ago now, you suggested that I contact you by email to send you photos of my car as well as the administrative process and costs incurred for this purpose. If your proposal still stands I will be delighted to share my adventure concerning this import with you. Thank you again for your unique and educational video.

      Yes. By all means email me that info.
      As far as the problem you’re having; do you mean to say the starter runs constantly?!?! If the Bendix is not retracting (disengaging), that is not going to end well.

      @@76vette Thank you for your reply. Concerning my mechanical problem, it concerns the choke on the carburetor. I got the term wrong because in France the starter designates what you call the choke. I don't know your email address, can you give it to me? Thank you. Have a nice day sir.

    Just asking did you torque the bolts or just hand tighten

    • @76vette
      @76vette  5 місяців тому

      I just hand-tighten them. Sometimes I make clicking noises to make sure they’re spot on. 😆👍🏻

    Is it not too high for the engine to idle at 800 RPM? Isn't around 500 more appropriate? Doesn't the automatic transmission pull with force when holding the brake at traffic lights?

    • @76vette
      @76vette  7 місяців тому +2

      My car has a 4-speed manual transmission. I think your theory about RPM with an auto trans is backwards.
      Anyway, the emissions sticker under the hood call for 2200 RPM at fast idle, 800 at solenoid, and 700 curb idle. Since my solenoid is inop, I set it at 800 RPM curb idle.

      Thank you so much.
      Honestly, I didn't pay attention to the emissions sticker, that maybe I need to rev up a bit more in idle....

    • @76vette
      @76vette  7 місяців тому

      I think he meant that the auto trans applies a load on the engine at idle when you’re stopped and applying the brake while the car’s in gear.

    Hi, how do you know no it’s matching number

    • @76vette
      @76vette  7 місяців тому +1

      Carburetors have numbers. Not hard to decode. And the previous owner saved it when he had another one installed.
